I really love this guy ! I recently found out about his videos and I am binge watching every possible episode. I'm saddened to learn that he passed away in 2019 at 91 years old. I would have loved to have sent him a hand written letter telling him how much I love his work. And I would have loved to meet such a great man. I grew up watching television programs like Wild America, Wild Kingdom and Jacque Cousteau. Watching this makes me feel like a kid again. So much better than the same old bushcraft videos watching people build shelters with sticks. R.I.P. Mr. Absalom. You have truly touched my soul. I hope someone from your family sees this and knows what an impact you have had on me.🕊️🙏💟 From Philadelphia PA USA.
Jack was absolutely brilliant! Anyone who watched this show back in the day surely misses him.
The late Jack Absalom - so down to earth, such a great story teller. Specially how simple his whole setup is.
I could watch these shows all day.. I wish there were more and some modern ones showing how things have changed.
Over many years of traveling I always thought it would be amazing to have painting skills like this. Pull up somewhere, and paint the scene.
Photos just dont cut it
When I built my off grid cabin in the outback NSW town of Nymagee, the first thing I hung on the wall, was one of Jacks paintings.
This man is a legend , l watch his videos everyday in repeat because they truly wonderfull , l loved this man so much , when l learned his passed away , l still cry everyday, he was so amazing. RIP jack .
Charles Sturt is my 5 times Great Grandfather. My own Grandfather donated some of Sturt's personal documents to the Australian Embassy some years ago when he was still alive for the Australian people. Thanks for putting this up there, really enjoyed it.
Sturt & stuart my 2 most favorite aussie explorers on so many levels ,....cheers!
Hi Garry, you may like to know we are creating a touring route called Sturts Steps in his honour but the interpretation of all history in the corner country region
This man was a legend!
Love the way he takes a Sigma where most folks today take a tricked up 4WD. Onya Jack 😎👍
Its an Automatic Sigma as well😲. Thought Jack would be a Manual user whilst outback.
They don't make blokes like Jack anymore , true bushman.
Tristan Carroll. That’s right mate, they don’t make blokes like him anymore. Unfortunately they make blokes like, corrupt criminal politicians nowadays...
Tristan Carroll. Yes they do mate, there called Chinese people and they’ve bought up a lot of bush!! 🤪🤪🤪👍👍👍
Bless you forever Jack an inspiration to me and will never ever forget you! Love the Stories and tips as well! Like the bulldust and the Soap and of course the Beer Fire extinguisher!😢😞🤠👍👌🏜️🚘🛢️🍺🇦🇺
Jack's best Outback tip?
When you break down etc. First thing is to boil the Billy.
Have a cuppa and a think. Plan what you are going to do.
It worked when I got stuck in the sand on the Outer Banks. Cracked open a cold soda, sat down, gathered my composure and worked out a plan. Was able to wobble back and forth and out of the sand.
Exactly right, plan your next move, you can't do that if your agitated, you gotta relax and that way your thoughts are clearer. Nothing better than a nice billy boiled cuppa tea for that. Jack's right, too many drongoes have lost their lives in the outback by being stupid, and walking out, or trying too, straight away. Best bet is to stay with the vehicle, someone's bound to come along sooner or later and find you.
just discovered these videos this bloke is fantastic equally as good if not better than the bush tucker man i love this guy hes great
People talk about Steve Irwin like he was the legend of Australia, I roll my eyes and mutter this legends name.
I had never heard of Jack before but I have thoroughly enjoyed this film. He puts his knowledge over expertly & most skilfully. Thank you very much
Love to listen to jack absalom !!!if you want to know about traveling in Australia he is the guy !!!
Mad, he wore stubbies instead of jocks. Bloody genius.
How I miss the nights with my parents watching Jack years ago...best of times.
RIP Jack,Australia has lost a legend
Adam A. Don’t worry mate there’s heaps of legends left, there called politicians!!! 🤩🤩🤓🤓😀😀😁😁
RIP Jack. A Great Australian.
Such an engaging character. Love from "locked-down" England, February 2021 to my daughter in Melbourne. Hope to visit her again soon.
This man had true Grit.Like no other.
i have to admit i had one of those sigmas, and bloody hell, that thing never broke down in 300,000ks
I loved watching these series,I found them very helpful.Thank you👍🏽
empty fire extinguishers on the dash @ 22.50 puts a smile on my face., jack would now be irresponsible, unfit to drive, fined and labelled a criminal. Its sad, how our culture has been hijacked. onya jack
I love this adventure stories of brave men crossing dangerous territory!!!
Another advantage of painting in the bush like Jack Absalom was famous for is that it’s also quiet and that reduces the risk of something or someone disturbing the peace.
I’ve always found having no rounds in the gun tends to prevent people being shot. Old Jack seemed to forget that one.
The story about the Peabody children who lost their lives was tragic, if only the Land Rover had not broken down they would have been able to get to where they were going and back home without any problems.
A true gentleman Jack is......
Sigma wagon ,couple gerries on the roof, lets go bush.....last of a resilient generation. gotta love it
THANK YOU OTHER SPECIAL DETAIL ON AUSTRALIA HISTORY IN YOUR VIDEO AS ENJOY TO WATCHING
Thanks for the upload.
Thanks so much for sharing this vids...
Thank you for this trip . As an NRA member. That was brilliant. And so true. I have signed up twice to go there to work. Blessings to you. one day I hope as a 60 year old to get there and i have friends there carpenters not gold panners. But I am a metal detect too
Thanks. For the upload
I remember shooting goats as a kid in Arkaroola back in the 60s/70s and a family friend had an old Navy Colt black powder pistol. We were bouncing along a track in a 4wd when there was a huge BOOM and the cab filled with smoke. The colt in his holster had fired, went straight through the floor and sheared off a gearbox bolt
Another great video . loved em since i was a young buck . Thanks ole mate .
i always carry my firearms either with no bolt, or uncocked And open (if loaded). Never yet seen one fire without a bolt in and closed .
I call that "safety catch" the IDIOT button, because only a total idiot would trust it with their life.
I really enjoyed that.
I reckon Jack is having a Billy tea with Malcom in some amazing place right now....
What a fantastic Chap Jack is, I'd loved to have met him.
That was really really really good
They should have given him his own painting show. Australia’s Bob Ross
Depot glen hasnt changed much since this was filmed. Interesting part of the world.
27:35 lol
Jack knows what the problem is! Better than nrma lol
Some things to take into account are that the big ant is now in Broken Hill near the tourist centre, the road to Tibooburra is now fully sealed and the old pubs at Stephens Creek and Yanco Glen are long since closed.
With the lecture about the rifle, I suppose you can have it sticking up, providing that the bolt action is fully opened..
Also you should just walk into a waterhole in the bush if you want to have a swim, but watch out for things like old mesh wire, fence posts, old burst water tanks etc, if you’re not careful you might easily be severely injured or killed by such objects in the water.
Packsaddles yep you can still get a good feed there
How good is this guy? Ill be googling Jack Absalom!
No need for a 79 series... Sigma Baby!!
Great videos, very interesting but I have a question. This gut in previous videos went harping on about "Tourist", "Terrorists" putting soap in the local water supply that ended up killing hundreds of sheep as the animals will no longer drink from the contaminated water. Yet here in this video he is using soap to catch shrimp! Also there is another video he shows where Aboriginies use the bark of a tree mushed up into a form of soap to paralyze fish in a creek. you can't have it both ways, tourist / terrorist soap is the same as Aboriginal and Bush Hero soap, surely this cannot be good for the water?
Jack Absalom would have too be 1 of Australia's best treasures and the fact that he did all that in a sigma shows the true character of what he and Australia is all about. Or at least used too be😅......
What a legend.
I wonder how far it is from where Jack is to Innamincka, I think anywhere within 100 kilometres is my first guess, lovely scenery.
Dash of whisky and it will improve it
What a great guy ,drill a hole in the gastank just to show us the soap trick,,he could have waited until he got to the station he could have borrowed the welder to fix it😂
I was saddened to see that Jack's grave was still only the heaped up dirt after his death some 3 yrs ago... Maybe he wouldn't care, but still
Jacks a legend, anyone know if his still alive?
The legend jack absalom past away 22nd . March 2019 in broken hill
May he rest in peace
1927. 2019 R. I. P
TRUE LEGEND
@@GEORGEKAY1 Would love to have had the chance to sit around a campfire with him and just listen.. I reckon the stories would be going still the next day :).
RIP...
What a champ
Good onya Jack
I really hope they make jack absalom a core subject for secondary school
Put a bit of Whisky in the the drinking water & it’ll be marvellous. 🤣
I wonder who was holding the camera.
Rip jack
Sad story about the three children who died. What can you say?
Does not get any be(tter....Add Malcolm Douglas and the Bushtucker Man ...Les Hiddens and you have some great Aussie adventures for all...wonderful stuff....
How hant this guy been given a gold logie?
Who needs a Pajero 🤔
historic journey done in a sigma wagon i think they might even be front wheel drive ha? what a true blue....i grew up in a sigma and i have no memory of it ever breaking down..?
Dash of whiskey improve it but it’s alright
Sorry about his friends.
Have a go at his laptop at 39 minutes 45.
1:10 - Malcolm Turnbull's long lost twin from the country
This is the land of Crocodile Dundee !!!
Jack forgot to count the Child in the Womb...
Never trust a man who drinks his lemon juice in one second 2:47
Did you see those skinny Aboriginals at the end of horison of Jack's painting? Well that's because all the setlerss pinched all the jabby's away infront of them!
Jack says throw your yabbi net in with a bit of soap in it. Now I have heard the soap trick, but Jack says and common sense says you don't use soap in a water hole, stock depend on it, bit of a contradiction.
jack was man vs wild while bear grylls was still swimming in the sack
Funny he gives them safety tips, and they are all getting pissed. drink driving in the bush.
What most wont realise is back then about 1984 there was a lot more Australian made Content on all the Tv Stations. Its all gone now to Accountants taking over as managers of Studios and copying the absolute diarrhoea from US Networks
reminds me a lot of Mal Turnbull. No offence intended or implied.
46:43 wtf?
this is my grate grate uncle
"always treat a firearm as loaded" he says pointing it at his ribs...
Is this fella Russel Coight’s Daddy? Funny #russellcought
Stay out of my corner
Yabbies eat soap, who knew?
I'm not sure about this guy. He seems a bit lonely. He didn't need to go in the lake to get all the little crab's and i think he might have a drinking problem. Poor guy.
@Henrich Muller i dont know what jesting means and I don't know what wowser means. Are these country town terms? I'll be able to explain my comment if I better understand these words. I didn't mean to be disrespectful. He just seemed sad to me. Being all alone and trying to show up to the camera how "Australian" he can be. Im sorry if he is some Australian Icon. I didn't know. Its just my opinion. Which I might add could be wrong. Im a city human is all. That's all.
Why not just carry the rifle unloaded in the car? Unless you are hunting Roos or Dingo's at night.
Aussie Legend, 91 yrs young. Dont make men like that anymore.
Another little job (at 52min): bury this human skeleton that I found here. I don't know how many laws are broken here.
@@jessesands4099 How old is the skeleton and how did the person die? Without proper forensic analysis, these questions are open to speculation - the remains could be anything from 10 to 100 years old. Filming a person's remains is not a sign of respect. He made a lot of money from this film.
Norman Mazlin The Leyland Brothers did the same at Kakadu and what about countless Archaeological docos that show Skulls as well!🤠💀
Now, look, a fishing net only weighs an ounce but, now, look, you have to take fifty pounds of soap !
And that car has NOT driven through a couple of hundred miles of dusty desert - look at it!
puts soap in a dam? not a good idea
driving one of the worst cars ever, mitsubishi sigma!
How the hell he wasn't carrying a spare motor, gearbox and diff is beyond me
+Heath Gallagher would of been in the wreck yard after this trip. You would hear the crank rattling on the way back to broken hill lol
I wouldnt say that about them. my stepson had a Sigma sedan. drove it from Adelaide to Coober Pedy twice and up to Alice Springs as well as a few remote places around South Australia and it never skipped a beat or let him down once. he said it was one of the best cars he'd ever owned.
shouldnt be putting soap in a watering hole JACK
I can’t believe, that jack went everywhere in that Mitsubishi Sigma wagon, that car should be in the Hall Of Fame.. Bloody legend!!!! 😀😀😀😀😀👍👍👍👍👍👍
