Clockwerk is my absolute FAVORITE villain in the Sly Cooper series. He might've only had a few scenes in the first game, but even in death/parts, he still continued to haunt us players as we continued our journey. Not every villain has that kind of impact!
So I remember when I was a little kid I went to my friend Garrets house to hangout. He had a play station 2 and the first sly Cooper game. I fell in love with the game while watching him play it and I begged my parents to get it for me. After playing The Theivius Raccoonus I was so into Sly Cooper that when the second game came out I bought it RIGHT AWAY. This week I decided to buy a PS2 for super cheap and grab The Theivius Raccoonus again and I'm now replaying it as a 29 year old adult. Lol. It has been so much fun and I have refound my love for these games. I always had a fascination with Clockwerk. I feel like I need to do a lot of investigating to learn this legendary villains past.
Clockwerk is my favorite too! He feels hate and is a mechanic bird! (Actually a freaking cool idea) BUT he cant live withouth any cooper alive. If he kills coopers he cant feel hate anymore meaning that he ran out of fuel.
Even though its never explained why, I have a theory on why Clockwerk hates the coopers: they wronged him. Something tells me back when he was organic thousands of years ago, him and the Cooper clan used to work together. But something happened, like during a big heist, the Cooper that Clockwerk worked with left him behind to be caught, and stole all the credit and wrote Clockwerk out of the heist's history. Basically pulling an Ernesto De La Cruz from Pixar's Coco. Clockwerk never forgave and never forgot. That seems like a very plausible cause for his dedicated hatred. His jealousy came from the Coopers who wronged him living happily and successful while he was alone and forgotten. To be wronged by someone you loved and trusted, and finding out they left you and took credit for all the hard work you both did together. If this is the case, I understand why Clockwerk went insane and tried proving he was the better thief. And he made the Fiendish Five to replace his "old family" with a new one. And Clockwerk is thousands of years old, so he probably had multiple fiendish five groups over the years to help him rival the coopers for millennia
That's not dissimilar from Dr.M's Story in Sly 3 I doubt they would reuse it for Clockwerk. Hopefully when Sly 5 Comes out we will get an answer though.
I do think it also was a matter of former friendship/partnership gone sour, the evidence to that could be him speaking about how "revenge" fuels his immortality and the mentioning of "Butter cup" flowers(a flower that symbolizes a few things but for the owl might symbolize youth and friendship positively but unfaithfulness negatively), though unlike Dr.M's case where it sounded like Connor did him dirty in Clockwerk's case I think it was more of a dilemma between too old friends with different views, Clockwerk is smart but a bit cold and apathetic likely loyal only to a select few back in his youth whereas Tunkhamen was more sentimental and empathetic in fact Clockwerk mocks the Cooper family's empathy calling it a weakness, there's also the mystery behind the hate chip's power and where Clockwerk found it though I wouldn't be surprised if its connected to the mask of dark earth as both were powerful items that were powered by negative emotions.
My own theory is that the groundwork for his mechanical body and the Hate Chip came from the wreckage of Le Paradox's time-machine that also ended up in Egypt alongside Sly. Clockwerk could have found the remains and kept them, over time refining them into what we would come to know as his near-invincible armored body and power source.
I think it's a similar situation to the Ship of Theseus question. That being said I would argue that Clockwerk was a cyborg up untill he replaced every part of him with robotic parts. That being said considering the only part of Clockwerk that makes him Clockwerk after his body parts were replaced is the Hate Chip I think he is a Robot.
@@MikeroVideo hmmm my curiosity for years is if he’s been a robot for so long, thousands of years, how was he able to acquire such advanced technology and build himself in the ancient times when no such thing existed yet? There’s so much of clockwerk that we never understood nor gotten answers to and people have been begging for a 5th game to reveal his origin story
