I remember seeing this in the movie theater as a kid when it first was released. Magnificent cinematography and great cast except Brando's interpretation of Fletcher Christian as a foppish aristocrat driven to mutiny seemed so wrong. I wish they had stayed closer to the history books as that story in itself is worthy of being on screen (this version actually had elements of the real voyage in it but it stayed more than it should have). The 1932 version didn't follow history either, making it a star vehicle for Laughton and Gable, and in recent years the Mel Gibson version written from the captain's point of view was also a disappointment. At least this version had a great score. And many of the shipmate crew were all to become great stars in their own right in the decades after 1962 and they are fun to watch in their acting infancies. Maybe someday a correct version will be filmed?

I have fond memories of my 6th grade teacher, Mr. DeQuatro, taking our class to see Mutiny on the Bounty at a theatre in the Times Square area. I absolutely loved the film thought nowadays I can see that it has its' flaws - but back then I was a wide-eyed kid from Brooklyn who was tremendously impressed with the film. As a side note, Mr. D also took us to see another epic during that school year - How the West Was Won. Small wonder that all the kids in the class loved the guy. I sure did !! Thanks Mr. D, wherever you are...
