  • Fifty two correctional services officers graduated at the Fiji Corrections Service passing out parade in Naboro today.
While officiating at the passing out parade, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka reminded the officers that their obligation under the Mandela rule is to protect the rights of persons deprived of liberty.
“They may be deprived of liberty but they have rights and you are here and have graduated to be able to protect those rights. You are not here to punish them.”
“You have learned about your duties as custodians of people that have been put under your care. You’ve been taught basic counselling. You’ve learned about the administrative processes in the service and discipline.”
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted that discipline is the art and ethos of self behaviour, and that the officers own individual behaviour will make them a responsible member of the country and the nation.
“Bring pride to the organisation that you are now joining and as new recruits, you need to be proud of that. Be proud of the responsibility that the nation is placing upon your shoulders to help rehabilitate those that have been put under your care through investigations, prosecution and judgement of the court.”
“Be proud of who you are but be prouder of what the nation expects of you.”
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka acknowledged all family members that were present to witness the auspicious occasion and he thanked them for their support during the 10-weeks of training.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka toured the corrections facility and was impressed with the various changes undertaken throughout the years.
This followed a traditional welcoming ceremony that was accorded to the Prime Minister by the the Acting Commissioner of Fiji Corrections Services, Salote Panapasa and her staff.
