With insanely good songs like Concrete, Perfume, The Fall and more on their newest EP, Lovejoy's Pebble Brain has LORE hidden behind the scenes. It even involves the first EP, Are You Alright, and songs like Taunt and One Day!

For me, the "'Cause why'd you have to kill my cat?" was a metaphor of "Curiosity killed the cat and satisfaction brought it back" instead of a literal cat being killed. Just something I wanted to say :)

i have never heard the satisfaction part before cool

Everything Wilbur does must have continuity, it's the law
Yes commander
Wilbur's just a story teller.

You could say, it's the *lore*
Wilbur has explained that the are you alright album is just different stories of him going out and drinking and pebble brain is him breaking up with England.

One month from now: proof that the story of Lovejoy and wilbur’s solos are connected

They are 😈
I'm WORKING ON IT!!! 🤣
Could there be a tie to his last video about Wilbur with:
Charles being William, with his dad having a shit ton of money, being a Tory (very conservative), and being entitled.
Sam being William, William has gotten better but is still in a bad relationship b/c of how he views himself.
Also William being the same person (in this channel theory Jared) singing Karen, I Miss The Kids, just later on.
Thought while I was writing this:
OMG COULD KAREN BE THIS SAM?!?!?!? We know that Karen cheated on him... hmmm..
I need someone to conspiracy with. Please.
@@randomfemal Props to you man, props to you
I think the easiest way to know that lovejoy's music has lore, is to realize that wilbur, whose the singer and song writer for most (if not all) songs, LOVES ARGs and has already had lore in his personal albums.
and he literally wrote the dream smp lore
Imagine Will sees this and is like “Huh. We should make this canon.”
Me before watching video: can’t I just enjoy music in peace?
My brain after video: 👁👄👁
All seriousness this video was awsome. Only Animagician can spin a seemingly normal indie band and make a massive conspiracy arg thing
Evil animagician be like: There is no lore in Lovejoy and Wilbur's songs, its just a bunch of cool indie songs and nothing else.
P.S. Finished the vid, super as always
There are several issues with the evidence he used. Firstly, the "Charles we ain't gonna hurt you" lyric is actually "Chance we ain't gonna hurt you" and the last song in the album "it's all futile all pointless!" was written February 9th 2020 which is a year before pebble brain was released so it's unlikely that if the songs were part of an ARG that there could be any evidence in that particular song.
I'm not saying there is definitely no link, I was just sceptical of the video after noticing these mistakes
“it’s all futile it’s all pointless” is an song that wilbur wrote for his “maybe i was boring” album. it talks about a partner that wilbur had who was lazy and non productive.
Wilbur starts one ARG:
The whole community to every song wilbur made: Coincidence? I think not
BRB going to listen to the whole album again through this perspective
same
Love some of the times where there’s a serious analysis playing over Wilbur looking like he’s loosing his shit in the background
(1:42 as an example)
3:50 pretty sure it's actually "chance, we ain't gonna hurt you" but I like this theory so we gonna roll with it
Probably not the intentional meaning of the songs from what I gathered on Wilbur’s most recent stream but it works really well, nice one Mr Magician!
I really was thinking about the background lore in Pebble Brain when wilbur said that one of the problems people found with Are You Alright is that it was too party-y/without much substance. I tried to do my own take but I must say it fell far behind yours! Love your stuff man, keep it up
Man, do you think One day is telling us something hide? I do, like there are phrases in the lyrics that just sounds weird if you think about it
@@eulaliasofiagarrido8329 yeah i noticed a very similar feel with one day and concrete.
wilbur said that the all jist of pebble brain is basically a break up song with England, this is especially present in model busses which was written about boris johnson, i think it's also quite apparent in the fall
Dude I wish there was a playlist on Spotify of the songs in lore order

As a big lovejoy fan and animagician fan, I’m excited!!
"why did you have to kill my cat" is a refrence to the term "curiousity killed the cat" implyong that the singer and the person in question got back together as evidenced by the next line. its nothing more than a clever line
I know. I feel like not enough people understand this line and it confuses me because I got it pretty much the first time i heard it
i think animagic knows that but Will has a really extensive history with lore so its quite plausible that almost every line has at least 2 meanings
We all know corpse killed will's cat
very cool video! just wanted to stick out the reminder all these songs/stories are lovejoy’s, not just from wilbur but from the whole band (it’s not just wilburs music)

I really like this theory, but what if it strings in with the other timeline with William? William gives up with Pandora, and starts trying to pull his life back together. He's still working as a janitor, obviously, but he meets Felicity. Felicity decides to start talking to William, because maybe he'd be willing to date her and he is. Lo and behold, William is still William, and is just as desperate for a relationship as Felicity. A perfect recipe for disaster. The only thing that this would change from the video would be the names--interchange Sam for William. William is still kind of stuck up, but he's at least figured out how to be nice by now. Charles and Jared would be pretty similar for William too, since each of them took away someone he loved (luckily William isn't Jared and doesn't stab anyone, he just gets drunk and angry I think).
Tl:dr, I like the theory, though personally think Sam is William (from the other video), who is desperately trying to pull his life together and failing
Or maybe he changed his name, Wanting to change...
@@hzy_252 Ooooh that's a good thought too. Completely clean start. Or maybe he used William as an online name or something
This is. A good theory but I feel like The e-girl trilogy has more in common with the Wilbur ARG but this is theory is super fucking good

I knew there was a story behind, but of course I thought it was more related to life experiences. I like to translate in LT, so when I was translating Sex sells, by the force to put lyrics in my language, I noticed it talks about a cheating, status and dramatic story. When Ani uploaded the other video about Wilbur's songs, it was funny and clever for me, but so I didn't want to make the same questions to Lovejoy, but yeah.
What is LT
@@twentyeight602 Oh right!. I was referring to Lyrics Translate, a website where songs lyrics are submitted and translated by both amateur and professional translators into many languages. I like to make my translations like a hobby in there, so that's why I took and almost done some Lovejoy's songs translations (Eng-Spa)
@@eulaliasofiagarrido8329 ohhhhhh thanks for responding
This guy could find lore in a brick wall and I'm here for it
The cat line is from the phrase "curiosity killed the cat" saying that the girl(subject) made him curious and dragged him down a spiral and killed his "cat" maybe meaning his love life or wanting to be curious
It’s amazing how lovejoy can make absolute BOPS and also make really interesting lore
So can we get the exact order the songs take place in the story? It would be cool to make a playlist of the story in order
here you go!
1. One Day
2. Taunt
3. Cause For Concern
4. Sex Sells
5. Model Buses
6. Oh Yeah, You Gonna Cry?
7. Concrete
8. Perfume
9. The Fall
10. You’ll Understand When You’re Older
11. It’s All Futile! It’s All Pointless!
@@Ani nice
I never even thought about this stuff, but of course you have. Well done honestly
"why'd you have to kill my cat" curiosity killed the cat, it could be a metaphor
I've thought that the fall was about dissolusionment with the british government since when it came up, so i think that fit's well with the theory, a song about a depressed politician ranting his point of view also being about that politicians slip from faith in a government they support would work pretty well i feel.
You've out done yourself again animagician!! Holy cow o_O
The fact that he used blue and green for the couple is hilarious
all this from a couple songs. Wilbur is a mastermind and you are even more of a genius for decoding all this
In “you’ll understand when you’re older” “Sam” says, “and if you think that it gets better-“ which doesn’t seem noticeable right? BUT, as a person who listens to any song sang by Wilbur Soot WAYY too much, I noticed that it sounded a lot like, or exactly the same that Wilbur sang “and if you think that it gets better, darling take a look at me”. Quite maybe Charles didn’t see anything wrong here, and didn’t know about “sam”..but maybe “Sam” is “Jared” or yknow…….
It’s all just music-
Wilbur is a story writer at heart and not even god can take that away
i love stuff like this, even if its not the intent (which for wilbur it is not unlikely) i love that you were able to find the story in it, and i will now exclusively be listening to lovejoy in this order! cant believe i only found this video now!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I knew all the songs were linked together! I was 99% sure I heard almost all the titles of the new episode in the first ep
I like how people can get so creative. Even if this isn't what Wilbur intended, its just really fascinating when people come up with these theories :)
I have damn near all the Wilbur Soot and Lovejoy songs memorized except maybe “main character syndrome” and a couple other unreleased songs, with over 30 hours streamed of them streamed all time, so I can sing along with them without even thinking about it, yet, at the same time my brain can’t comprehend the lyrics so all this is news to me. does that make sense? no? good :)
DrivenTick actually also did a very good breakdown of all of Wilburs and Lovejoys EPs
It's not a story, it's just Wilbur singing about past experiences, and just a relationship
Oh gosh hearing you talk and finding the smallest details to make a theory just gave me so much nostalgia from my undertale era, watching all the lore and everything... gosh I feel like if I was an old person talking about their experiences-
I love the idea that Cause for Concern is just Hamilton's Reynold's Pamphlet
i love this idea so much and it’s caused me to look a lot deeper into the music as a whole because i think there’s a ton of stuff that’s super important which wasn’t included
(also if these were mentioned i may have just missed them so sorry but)
this is in order of the songs and is in no way chronological
one day
one day was talked about quite a lot so i don’t feel the need to go too in-depth about that but
sex sells
to me i feel like the song sex sells might be the most important song to the lore as it confirms the fact that
1) sam cares deeply about felicity even though she’s going out with a tory (charels) and really cares about her having a place to sleep
and 2) the line “swore she’d never kiss a tory, but this boy was to good to lose”
cause for concern
and the song cause for concern feels to me like felicity in a way trying to convince sam that everything is fine and he doesn’t have any reason to be concerned
oh yeah, you gonna cry?
and then the song oh yeah, you gonna cry? seems really important, as it seems like sam ranting about or to charels about felicity leaving him for charels and to me it seems like sam knows that felicity does still miss him and doesnt even actually love charels, she’s just never satisfied with what she has.
model busses
and then i feel like a lot of important things from model busses, while we’re talked about a lot has a lot more meaning to it where sam is talking to felicity about the fact that she doesn’t love charels and that she’s just “scared of future” and is using charels as an escape from the money problems they had
concrete & perfume
i feel like concrete was covered really well and so was perfume
you’ll understand when your older
i feel like you’ll understand when your older is probably set earlier on in the lore when sam and felicity were still together but through the song i think it reveals that felicity was with charels while she was still with sam because as he says “you’re hiding a dark secret, but your talking in your sleep”, and it seems like felicity is in a way manipulating sam, by comforting him and acting like she cares about him “drying his tears” but most likely sam knows that it’s all a façade which we saw earlier in one day, but because he depends on her to make his life at work and at home bearable he’s too scared to leave her
the fall
i think the fall was covered very well, it seems like charels taking felicity out constantly to try and cover up his sadness and keep her with him because he knows she still misses sam, he talks about his problems with substance abuse and depression even naming the antidepressants “sertraline” and “prozac’s”
it’s all futile! it’s all pointless
then it’s all futile! it’s all pointless! like it’s from the perspective of sam as he looks back on his relationship with felicity and how when he got with her he “lost the passion that comes with living”, it implies that sam knows that felicity will never forget him no matter how hard she tries and shows he’s finally begging to get over her, it sounds like he’s speaking to felicity or about her to someone as he speaks directly about how he knows that her relationship with charels isn’t what she wanted it to be and she’s never gonna feel “naive love” again, however he shows that he isn’t actually fully over her when he says “and this is the part where i shut up and let you infest my brain, wrap your arms around my cortex dig you in and let you drain”
knee deep at the atp
then i feel like (though this video was made before lovejoy released knee deep at the atp) though knee deep at the atp isn’t a song made by lovejoy and was remade as a collab between lovejoy and los campesinos i still feel like it’s important to the lore and it sounds like a song from sams point of view in which him and felicity have just broken up, he reminisces about the time they time they spent together but then realised he’s the “B-side” and isn’t felicity’s priority anymore, she just cares way more about going out and having fun and left him for charels because he “took you to the beach” which i think ties back to the fall where charels talks about taking felicity on vacations
this is so long omg
this may not be "canon" per se but my God is it convincing and well researched
ARGs are getting harder and interesting.
I love it when people make videos like theses cause it’s a little story plus music and they are easy to remember also it’s just two of my favourite things mashed together
WOO, cant wait to see how it turned out
Note: This is just my theory :D Best thing about art is that it can be interpreted different ways.
I see sex sells as someone killing there lover with the lines:
And I'll listen carefully
With ears pressed to the floor
As you make your way downstairs
You haven't got far to fall
Now it's red, now it's dead
Now it's everything she needed
Now it's four open doors
Pillows pressed under your knees
Now it's a sad, sappy sucker
To ensure a happy ending
And the fall as someone slowly falling into insanity, and at the end him dyeing.
And, respecting with 'The Fall', I think that, beyond that the singer is going crazy, I consider that he becomes conscious of the life of city and hypocrisy he is in. He, and also, another person he mention is by him side, notes that absurd that the modernity and the oblivion makes in youngsters no more interested ( Explained in lines like "They never know how many lives it took" and "How many groceries need a country?"), they know and are scare of the fact that "It's not that simple, but he won't seem to notice./ There most be more to this" And this make sense when, now he is 'high', not only because the substances, he reclaims and acuse because of this. Despite the apathy they feel, or maybe because if that, he searched to be high, by knowing what others not, that, inevitably, it's gonna fall.
Well I've actually wrote an essay, sorry for that hahah
@@eulaliasofiagarrido8329 No problem. The essays epic
Imagine lovejoy is apart of Wilbur's new arg

Omg! he saw my comment! thank you :D
I wouldn’t put it passed Wilbur if he did an entire ARG through an album.
LMAO I love how he made a whole conspiracy out of nowhere
I don’t remember if this was in the song, but I think the part
“cultured man, venetian suntan, red wine and club bands, viagra pills on the night stand” is Sam mocking Charles’s pros to Felicity and “How’s it feel? How’s it feel to be so loved? How’s it feel to be so loved yet so alone?” is Sam telling Felicity that even tho Charles is “there” and “loves” Felicity, she is still alone, and Sam would be a better partner, since he always took care of Felicity and “played the empath” I hope you like my theory:)))
I don't know why I cracked up at "It's a politician, named Charles."

This reminds me of school. Overanalyzing every single text and somehow coming up with something completely far off, that somehow makes sense, but it's not what the teacher wanted so you still don't get a good grade
I think this is a interesting interpretation of the lovejoys eps as a overall thematic connection and could easily be a fun way to look at all their songs.
I guess however the songs standing on their own as songs about specific feelings and expression i find personally more meaningful to me, either way fun video :)
This is so engaging dude, keep up the good work
Glad you think so!
I love your videos keep up the good work
I watched this last night and have been thinking about it all day
This man can find lore in anything
I really like the way you try to weave a throughline through the EP’s. It’s a really interesting way to look at it. Unfortunately, you have a lot of lyrics not exactly right, fogging the way you percieve the meaning. The biggest one is in sex sells. You percieve the narrator to say ‘he’ (the one with whom his girlfriend cheats on him) is a councilman. The actual lyric, however reads ‘his daddy works on the council’, which would make your interpretation a bit different.
I think wilbur said he likes the idea of different songs and different eps telling a story
its crazy your almost 100k aesome ive been watching for a while now and you derverve it
Thanks a ton!
I wonder how the new Album fits in with this?
Also dam good job on the dedication!!
Your videos are great! I’ve never been good at analysis, but your videos are quite easy to understand.
In Its All Futile! It’s all Pointless! there’s a line that says “I don’t miss you, I miss the thought of what we were,” which I also think wraps up the story. You said Sam and Felicity wished to feel something, the line says they missed the idea, the feeling of what they were. I just thought that line really wrapped things up and wanted to share!
Nice work mate, knowing the meaning behind music adds a lot more depth to it. Gonna enjoy lovejoy even more after this video!
P.S. in Cause for Concern the lyric is "singing 'chance'", I thought your version sounded weird (cfc is one of my favorite songs, I know it well) so I looked it up and yeah, it's "chance".
