    I've seen hundreds of these videos over a period of years, and it always makes me wonder if someday-someday-it will ever occur to anyone to put some kind of bin under the shredder to collect all the shredded material, instead of just letting it fall into a pile on the floor.

    • @EleanorPeterson
      @EleanorPeterson Před 4 lety +5

      Not sure that'd ever happen. Aren't train wheels either reconditioned or melted down? No point shredding them. I know what you mean, though. Seeing wimpy stuff getting trashed is a bit disappointing.
      I've seen videos of lengths of railtrack being shredded. That's pretty impressive. And titanium blades from jet turbines. That's explosive. Brutal. I'm not sure there's any actual limit to what can be wrecked - it's more a case of whether there's a demand.
      They could certainly build a shredder to eat train wheels, but I doubt if anybody would buy it. Even worn out wheels are too valuable to shred, and why spend even more money breaking them up? They just get melted directly.
      It'd be kinda like shredding an anvil. No point. Just stick 'em in a crucible.

    Because this is not a channel of some upper-middle-class European family that built their own shredder with their first-world savings, and they record the videos with their 4K super cameras shredding food and new toys, regardless of expense, because It does not represent any inconvenience for them, while these Asian workers who surely use these great machines to really work and still do not have a decent salary and that is why they record these videos in a very amateur way? I'd like to see one eat a 12" sphere of solid strengthened steel.

    • @EleanorPeterson
      @EleanorPeterson Před 4 lety +1

      Boringly enough, that might not be too difficult. All you do is pick the right grade of cutting wheel for the arbors, reduce their number, and open up the jaws to something like 11".
      First pass rips several 3/4" grooves in the sphere. Second pass cracks the edges off the grooves. Jaws move in 2". Third pass cuts more 3/4" grooves. Fourth pass cracks the edges off those grooves... And so on. Sphere gets knobbly, then smooth, then knobbly, etc. And it gets smaller all the time.
      The limiting factor to getting the job started is the initial gap between the arbors.
      On this machine's closed-up setting (as shown in the video when it's eating small, thin stuff with a full set of teeth) a sphere would just roll over the cutters all day long. A bit like giving a baby a watermelon to chew on.
      Open up the jaws, though, and even a hardened steel sphere would get broken down fairly quickly. I think the reason you don't see that kind of thing on CZcams is that they're industrial machines doing a job. So... rejigging a big shredder to wreck one single item would cost someone, somewhere, a lot of cash.
      In the real world of scrap metal, solid chunks like anvils and lathe beds tend to get dumped straight back into a crucible or furnace and melted down directly - no point in shredding them.
      There's not much call for doing one-off exhibition pieces like your solid steel sphere. (Sadly!)
