    He was a great, great man. I grew up in an all-Democrat family but I became a huge Reagan fan and a Republican because of Reagan and proudly voted for him with my first ever presidential vote for his re-election, and I especially loved him after he was shot. I lost my own father to violence at a young age and while it may sound corny, I saw Reagan as a superhero-like father figure who survived. The way that man, at his age, came back from multiple gunshots with such bravery and humor and grace, while reassuring the nation and the world that he was well and in charge, had an enormous impact on me. He was a great man and the best President of my lifetime, hands-down. I loved that guy and I still do. Godspeed, Ronnie!

      The fact that he WAS an actor is actually incredibly important to Reagan's story. Being such a well-liked and positive human being, along with his keen intellect, he was elected to the presidency of the Screen Actor's Guild. The union for actors that was responsible for things like salaries, other compensation, and benefits for the Hollywood movie stars.
      It was here that he learned a diabolical truth: Hollywood is filled with communists, and EVERY union is filled with communists. You would think that something as frivolous as movies would not be that meaningful to a future statesman, but it was here that Reagan learned how communists, under the labels of "Socialist" and "Liberal" infiltrated and undermined organizations, and it was here that he learned that to stop them you have to expose them, shame them, and starve them of money. Get them out of the places of power or the organization will fall.
      This is how he rose to power in the GOP. This is the message that resonated with the American Voter, and these were the tools Reagan used to undermine the Evil Soviet Empire. The average politician today is completely clueless about how marxist cultural subversion works, they never had to deal with it in their industry.
      He certainly was more than just an actor, but being an actor may have helped him save the world.

I am genuinely curious because I have seen a lot of people from different countries on videos like these. What is your interest in American politics? or is it just coincidental that a lot of reactors that I watch have a multi-national audience? It is a strange cross-section that seems to be cropping up a lot recently. Again, not being condescending it's just a curiosity.

      @elwoodbluesmorris2120 Před 2 lety +17

      @@LastoftheMofreakins I hope your ok with long answers, it may ramble on a bit but my political journey and why I am so invested into US politics is well.. long;
      Do you know anything about 'brexit'? It is a big political issue that happened in Britain when the country voted to stop being a part of the European Union (EU). It happened closely to the time that Donald Trump was voted into the American White House. Both the people who voted for 'brexit' and the people who voted for DT were treated similarly, both groups were called many derogatory names for taking part in an election run and organised by their countries and for not voting a certain way: the way the media and the establishment wanted them to. For me brexit was an eye opener, I started to look at politics and the media in a very different way.
      I remember prior to the election in the US between Clinton and Trump, saying to my sister (who was over here visiting at the time from the US) 'How did your country end up with them two as the options?' because to me and from the little I knew then I did not think either was a good choice, my sister spoke to me about Obama, Clinton and Trump and why she was going to vote the way she was.
      Over here in the UK, most people liked Obama but if you were to ask anyone about any of his policies etc, they would not know, me included. I did take exception to him though when he came over here at the time of the brexit vote to talk to our then PM, he gave a press conference where he basically told the people of the UK we must vote to stay in the EU or we would be 'At the bottom of the list' from the US point of view, I heard a threat there and others did too, I did not take it kindly.
      After DT was voted into the WH, many of the people around me would talk about him in a very unpleasant manner, there were programmes about him and the media over here hated him. My daughter who in in uni learning performance had a class about him, yeah a British student who was doing music performance had a lesson about DT and about how his tweets were so divisive etc.
      I was caught off guard by a work mate who said how DT was the most divisive president America had ever had, I just said that I did not think that was true and then I had to put up with a rant about children in cages. I was not ready for that amount of passion from someone talking about an American politician where there had never been any in our country before. People over here HATED the president of the USA, what was behind it? I saw this change, and anyone on the right was now the enemy, I had to learn more.
      Now to clarify my political affiliation was always centre left, I had voted Labour most of my voting life but could see something wrong especially around brexit and although not a big fan of the conservatives felt I had to change the way I voted. Although Boris Johnson our present PM does say 'build back better' more times than I would like. I feel we have no-one over here in the world of politics who is truly on our side.
      I could see the difference in the way our media spoke about Donald Trump compared to other US leaders, I could see the affect of that on the people around me, the way people spoke, the way they acted, only the other day it came up in conversation that I liked Donald Trump as the president and bloody hell the reaction I got was astounding, yet you ask those same people about Bidens policies and not only do they not know, they don't care, that switch that had everyone so interested in the US president turned off along with our medias hate campaign. It really is amazing to witness.
      Through my learning experience of needing to know more, I have come to realise the two countries are tied together, what affects the US affects us, the US leaders policies in some crazy way influence ours and obviously the economic state of the US is crucial for all western countries although I would have argued against this not long ago. Ironically American freedom will decide ours.
      There are many more things I could say, I watch programmes like the LFR family because they are on a similar journey to me. I like to learn along with them and in some cases so I have an answer to counter with if I need them. This speech by RR is breathtaking I made my other half watch it too, I found it scary how relevant it is and made me more aware that we need leaders who think this way. I hope this answer is ok.

He was a serious thinker with strong convictions that were based on principles that he actually believed. So many politicians will do or say whatever they think will get them an extra vote. He might have started off that way, but are you sure he stuck to them? If he were to run today, as he ran in 1980, and 1984, he would have been kicked out of the current GOP for being a lefty commie. He proposed amnesty for all immigrants already here, legally or illegally, called for an open door policy between us and Mexico, was famously anti-gun, and passed sweeping anti-gun laws after Brady was shot. After 84 though, he changed his stance on boarder security to please the base, changed his mind about helping the needy and created the narrative still used today about welfare queens. He ran on small government and low taxes. After passing the largest tax cut of all time, he realized how bad he screwed up and had to raise taxes at least once in 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987. And "the government" grew exponentially under his watch, except for corporations, Wall Street and big business, which ran amuck through the Clinton years culminating in 2008 mortgage bubble burst, although that had other factors, that led to that too, not blaming that entire recession on Reagan. IMO, that and several other policies and decisions he made impacted this country negatively in a deep long lasting way, and are one of the main reasons that our country has gone down the toilet the past 30yrs.
      And then there's always this tape of him talking to Nixon, that hasn't done him any favors as far as his legacy goes. .

He was also the last president that I have actually felt was genuine, not motivated to increase himself or using the office to gain advantage for his family and investments. Broken home, eating USDA commodity foods at grandma's on Wed. nights, etc. I will never forget backing Carter during his first run, against Ford, though I was too young to vote. That all changed with Ronald Reagan. Reagan resonated a sense of truth to me in 1980 that has remained with me since. That was the first time I ever stayed up late to watch election results coming in and the happiness I felt inside as his count went higher and higher. Reagan, more than anyone else in my youth and young adulthood, taught me to think critically and reason through what people were saying on TV, etc. and look beyond the rhetoric for facts. He showed me that I could decide for myself and more (most?) importantly, I had a responsibility to decide and to act and to think for myself, not let others think for me.
    It's 2022 now and I was born in the 1960s. I say this without any doubt: in my whole life the only decade I would like to live again would be the 1980s. I saw and experienced the changes and felt the security and pride that was spearheaded by President Reagan.

When I heard Ronald Reagan's speeches and was living the reality of the times, I became a died-in-the-wool Conservative and looked at every piece of legislation presented on a local, state, or federal level with the same skepticism I do today. Back then it required a visit to the local library where I learned to find the information and then look at the proposed legislation from the 'back side'. If you're wondering what the 'back side' is it's the laws that have to be removed to make way for the new law to pass judicial scrutiny. It's tantamount to saying "I don't trust politicians to tell the truth' their description of the legislation in question isn't to be trusted and they've rarely let me down. You get an insight into the minds of the authors of the legislation. It's so much easier today than it was way back then. I encourage everyone to take the time to find out for themselves without the media filters what any proposed legislation means to you and America's future. I pray God continues to bless America..

I know you are probably paying a high price for this from those who accept what their party says, and unlike you, they don’t look at the issues, do their own research and make decisions based on facts. That’s called “Critical Thinking”, and it is no longer being taught to our children. They are taught to follow the party blindly, not to think for themselves. I tried to teach my Grandkids this, but I fear I have failed them. I fear they and the world will lose the precious freedoms that so many have fought and died for. Reagan also said “'Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction” I fear that the next generation will give up their freedom for hollow promises of safety, security and a government that knows what’s best for you. I was in the air force when Reagan was elected. I was 19 years old and he was the first president I had the chance to vote for. Under Jimmy Carter, a democrat, the morale of the military people around me was notably suffering. Bad pay was definitely contributing to that. The day that Reagan was elected, it felt like we all took a deep breath. We finally had a Commander in Chief that it felt like we could respect. He passed one of the biggest pay raises at the time. He also displayed a level of respect for the military members that really made us feel he had our backs too. He was one of, if not the first, presidents that actually would return our salutes, showing the return of respect to us that we were required to give those of his office. He became the Icon of what being a conservative meant to be. He was willing to make the hard choices and take the less traveled path to fixing a problem. I address the rest of my comments to those who may not have listened to the entire video. The video transports you back almost 60 years, but the message is appropriate today. Give it a listen.
    If you haven't watched this video you are missing the message that is needed, once again, for America to survive. You will hear Reagan in a 1964 speech for then-candidate for President, Barry Goldwater. We have now traveled almost 60 years, and I guarantee that anybody who listens to Reagan's speech might very well play that speech today for the same reasons.
    It's time for America to wake up to the realities facing it. Government has never been the answer, and they still can't do anything well beside making more government. Wake up to the reality and vote accordingly in the next election. The current policies are bankrupting us and our country, mandates are forcing us to live lives other than those we choose to live, and we are only a step away from the ills of Socialism and Communism. E pluribus unum- from many, one. Let's learn to act as one and preserve our democratic republic as it was meant to be. We can make it better! Government cannot.
