  • If I hadn't studied this religion myself, and entered this religion, and all I received were rules, rules, rules. I would've left the next day. Thank God, I read the Qura’n first.

It is true that Islam gives time for its followers to learn and develop, but their faith has to be right first!!
If not, nothing will count..and be sure that Allah will show the way to anyone that claims following his true path, but many go astray after knowing the way!!

When I was ready to revert, I had read the Qur'an over and over, I had spoken with Muslims, I had memorized Surahs Fatiha and Ikhlas and wanted help learning how to offer my Salat. As soon as I learned how to offer my Salat, I reverted and have never skipped a single Salat since and it's been nearly eight years Alhamdulillah.

As a revert who took Shahada about half a year ago this really resonates with me. I sometimes feel very intimidated by my religion even though I know it's the correct path, I feel I need to know everything about the practice quickly and it becomes daunting. This was a reminder to become patient with myself. Thank you and God bless

This is so true and not just for reverts but all Muslims. Islam and religion in general is a lifelong process. For some, religion comes easily to them but for others, it can be a struggle and it can take them a while to get there. You never know where someone is in their spiritual journey. We must be kind and compassionate and not shame them for their shortcomings. Humility is extremely important in Islam. Let's practice that.

      *Please read this.*
Know that the example of knowledge is like a rainfall. Allah sends clouds to wherever places He pleases, and then he caused rain to fall. Similarly, that is how Allah gives His knowledge to whoever He pleases.
The testimony of faith-the shahada, is the seed of tree of faith. It can only grows in a specific ground called the heart. It needs to be watered with knowledge. The seed will never grow on a hard surface area like rocks and stones. The seed will only grow in soft surface area like soil. The resemblance of heart is like a soil.
Some soils are fertile and capable of absorbing large quantity of water. This type of soil will grow on it different type of plantation which will bear different kind of fruits. This is the example of people whom Allah has given knowledge, and benefited themselves with it-which is excellent.
Some other soils can contained an enermous amount of water and will turn into lake and river. The water in these places benefited both human and animal. This is the example of those who have been given knowledge by Allah, benefited him/herself, and teach other people. This is superior than the previous one.
Some other soils, however, are infertile and useless. No matter how much water is poured down on it, it will not absorb the water nor will it grow any vegetation on it's surface. This is the example of some of the hypocrites and some of the disbelievers. This is the worst of the three.
Just like all trees and any other plantations need time to grow, the tree of faith also needs time to grow. Trees need to be constantly watered everyday so that it has all the nutrient it needs to grow. Similarly, the seed of tree of faith needs to be watered with knowledge for it to grow.
Know that, our body has a specific lump of flesh. If the lump of flesh is in a good condition, then everything else will also be in good condition. If it is in a bad condition, then everything else will also be bad. This lump of flesh is the heart.
*The parable of human being with its deeds is like a person who is planting different type of plantation in his/her garden.*
Every gardens are made of bunch of trees. There is a specific tree that grows in this garden. If that specific tree is a good tree, then every other trees are good trees. If that specific tree is a bad tree, then every other trees are bad trees. The good tree is the tree of faith.
This tree of faith will grow high and have over sixty branches of faith. In each of these branches, will bear upon it, different type of fruits. It will bear fruits whenever Allah wishes it to bear fruits.
Just like birds that flock together are always coming from the same species, and all of them share a particular characteristic between them. Similarly, the believers also have unique characteristics that are exclusive only to them.
*These characteristics that you find in the believers came into existence from the tree of faith.*
The root, trunk, branches, and fruits; each of these part resembles a characteristic of the believers. The root is a characteristic which resides in the heart. The trunk is a characteristic which resides in the tongue. The branches is a characteristic which resides in the limbs. And the fruit is a characteristic which is manifested in the form of benefit that is enjoyed by the believers and caused the disbelievers to be in anger.
The trunk is the extension of the root. The branches are the extension of the trunk, while the fruits are the extension of the branches.
      - What lies in the heart will be extended to what is spoken by the tongue. This is how the root and the trunk are connected.
      - What is spoken by the tongue reflects what lies in the heart, and will be extended to what is done by the limbs. This is how the trunk and the branches are connected.
      - What is done by the limbs will be extended to either giving benefits or harms to the sower. This is how the branches and the fruits are connected.
One of the fruit from this tree of faith resembles the blessed olive fruit. The extracted oil from this fruit is used to fuel fire to become the source of light in the darkness of night. It's neither coming from the west nor the east. It only grows in the tree of faith. The oil would almost glow even if it is untouched by fire.
You will find all believers will have a certain degree of guidance in them. Some of them have a burning oil that shines the entire horizons, giving them the ability to see the subtlest details of everything. Some of them have a lesser degree than that. This characteristic is coming from the fruits of the tree of faith.
Those who will eat from the cursed tree of Zaqqum in the hereafter are those who had eaten the fruits which were coming from the bad trees of the garden of faith and action in this worldly life.
Those who will eat from the delightful trees of paradise in the hereafter are those who had eaten the fruits which were coming from the good trees of the garden of faith and action in this worldly life-and also those whom Allah will admit to paradise whoever He pleases.
*Know that just like Adam was created from a mixture of soil and water (clay), so is the reality of human kind. The inward and outward of a human are like the mixture of soil and water.*
As for the inward, the soil where the tree will grow at is the heart. The good tree is the good kalimah. The bad tree is the opposite of the good kalimah. And the water used to watered the tree is knowledge.
As for the outward, the soil where the tree will grow at is the fleshly body. The good tree is the good deeds. The bad tree is the opposite of good deeds. And the water used to watered the tree is wealth.
*Heart and fleshly body are the soil. Faith and action are the tree. Knowledge and wealth are the water.*
If the heart is in a good condition, the fleshly body will also be in a good condition. Faith that resides in the heart, will manifest itself into actions that can be observed through the fleshly body, while the action which were done by the fleshly body reflects the faith of a person in his/her heart. Wealth requires knowledge in order for it to be managed properly, while knowledge needs wealth in order for it to be manifested into different kind of beneficial deeds.
Wealth and knowledge are like water. And water is the source of life. Never withhold water from other people who want to take benefit from it, for you are not the one who sent it down from heaven.
As for the people of wealth, the more he/she shares his/her water with other people, the more wealth Allah will bestow to him/her. Which will give him/her more chance to sow more plants. The more plants a person sows in this worldly life, the more he/she will reap what he/she sowed later in the hereafter.
As for the people of knowledge, the more he/she shares his/her water with other people, the more knowledge Allah will teach him/her. Which will give him/her more chance to sow more plants. The more plants a person sows in this worldly life, the more he/she will reap what he/she sowed later in the hereafter.
*The two worlds-this worldly life and the hereafter, are like two connected gardens.*
One garden is in the worldly life, and the other one is in the hereafter. The garden of the worldly life is the garden of faith and good deeds. While the garden of the hereafter is the garden of delightful fruits and pleasures. Whoever successfully entered the garden of this worldly life, will successfully enter the garden of the hereafter. And whoever failed to enter the garden of this worldly life, will fail to enter the garden of the hereafter, except for whomever Allah pleases.
All praise to Allah, who has given the nature of this worldly life like a garden. All praise to Allah, who has given the nature of Paradise as a garden.
All praise to Allah, who created Adam from soil, and then He taught him the names of all things. All praise to Allah, who created us from a drop of fluid, and then He taught us the things that we didn't know before.
Just like our physical body is slowly departing to the hereafter as we get older through time, it is quintessential for us to also cause our heart to depart from wanting this wordly life into wanting the hereafter.
This worldly life is nothing but a fleeting pleasure with a span of twinkling of an eye. All the good times and all the bad times came and went just like that.
People die, marriages end, clothes wither, beauty fades, music and games get old, jobs get boring, companies close. What is more foolish than prefering this worldly life over the hereafter?
May Allah guide us all back into where our forefather originally belong. On that day, inshā Allah, we all will say:
      > "...Praise to Allah, who has guided us to this; and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us. Certainly the messengers of our Lord had come with the truth." And they will be called, "This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit for what you used to do."
      > (QS. Al-A'raaf 7: Verse 43)
All praise to Allah who attributed Himself with the attribute of al-Haqq. All praise to Allah who created the heaven and the earth with al-haqq. All praise to Allah who caused the quran to descend with al-haqq. All praise to Allah who guides mankind towards al-haqq. All praise to Allah who called His words (القول) and His speech (الكلام) as al-haqq. All praise to Allah who had promised us with a true promise (وعد الحق).
*How fortunate are those who have reached the ultimate realization in this worldly life that:*
"The messengers of our Lord certainly came with the truth. There is no God but Allah, al-Quran is the truth which came from His side, and Muhammad was His messenger."

Remember, Allah has revealed the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) surah by surah, sometimes verse by verse in 23 lunar years while He could reveal all of it in just a second if He wished so. But He gave people time to read, to think about, to learn, to experience, to embrace and incorporate the teachings of the Quran in their everyday life before giving them more responsibilities. This is clearly the way to follow if we want to excel in practicing our beautiful religion.

When I took Shahada in 1994, Islam was presented to me as a lot of rules, halal and haram, mostly haram. The VERY FIRST thing I was told as a new Muslim was not how Muslims pray, not even how Muslims prepare for prayer with wudu, which I was not taught. No, the very first thing I was told as a brand new Muslim was to cut my fingernails!!! I had (and still have) mental illness, but I could not find a psychiatrist who was a practicing Muslim, so I received no religiously appropriate assistance in that area as part of overall mental health treatment. With Islam presented to me in the form of petty rules and with no help in any more serious matters, sooner or later I fell away from Islam. I am still not back. (That was 27 years ago, and I am now elderly in poor health with no contact in person in the ummah.) The speaker has made a very valuable point.

@@dontinsultme4821 Sorry, but I don't know what ayatul kursi is. Many converts are never instructed to identify things like this. As for fard prayer, I gave up on that many years ago. I simply was not able to mumble incomprehensible syllables and pretend that they were prayers. I have never been able to hold the meanings in mind at the same time I was reciting the Arabic syllables, so for me the prayers were an exercise in futility. I was raised a Protestant Christian, and it was taken for granted that allegedly "praying" in a language one does not understand is useless and even wrong. (The futility of allegedly praying in Arabic is not the only thing that led to my eventually falling away from Islam.)

What I discovered is that fasting is actually good even for health reasons, not just religious reasons. I understand It may be hard, I'm not judging him or anybody, but It's true that a lot of Muslims without realizing it, are actually keeping non-muslims away from Islam. I agree with Br Jeffery mostly, but if there’s one thing, I’d like to add to this, It would be that ,” whom ever Allah guides to Islam, there would be nothing that could force him to leave it,
regardless of all negative things that he/ she may come across with those who profess to be Muslims but do not seem to live upon the basic tenets of the Deen.”
And so I feel quiet frankly that if a person who is wise and can study Islam on his own as an adult, he would also be able to differentiate between those scholars or persons, who truly live upon what they preach or who just simply are good with words, but when it comes to Aml/ actions & deeds, they’d prefer to have a large following of people, who’d rather overlook their weaknesses & blindly follow them … and so I’d say yes! question them with confidence and with the passion of learning more knowledge, but never try to to do so, with the intention of humiliating them in front of their peers or students.
That would be the right way but never be disappointed by their behaviors or characters, if they do not reflect any Islamic values … Instead keep studying and continue learning through many resources available and become a good practicing Muslim yourself, if you think there aren’t any good ones that you have come across, since you entered Islam … and as a matter of fact, become that scholar yourself, who could teach the truth of Islam to those, who come from different cultures of this world and think that their ways are Islamic…& they can do the perfect Dawah to the Non Muslims. 👍🏻🌹💫

I always think about how my parents teach me that if i lie or do something wrong that god will get mad at me and I'll suffer in hell, when they can easily teach me instead that if i told the truth or did something good god will reward me and put me in heaven
Most parents use Intimidation, not endearment to let us become good Muslims/ or even just good person
