    this was such a great video! ive been debating between prefolds, and flats.. and this is a great inbetween. I can use the prefold as a flat for now in the newborn stage, and then just use the prefold when it will work better when the time comes! dont have to buy different types! thank you!

    I've been beginning to cloth diaper my little girl and watched your video just now to make sure I was doing it right because I was second guessing myself 😅
    Anyway it really is such a strange coincidence that our daughters have the same name and birth weight! I thought that was pretty neat!

    Hi there, thanks for the video! Could you fit newborn clothes over the cloth diapers? How many covers would you suggest for a newborn? Thanks so much!

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před 3 lety +5

      Hello, I had small babies (6 lbs1 oz and 7lbs 1oz). Both fit in newborn clothes with the cloth diaper on until 2 to 3 months dependant on the brand of clothes. The amount of diapers is really going to depend on your routine and needs. We practice elimination communication along with cloth diapers. This means that every time our kiddo goes to the bathroom it isn't always in a diaper, this means we need fewer diapers. For our first kiddo we also used a disposable most nights (less cloth diapers). For our second we solely use cloth and needed to purchase more of the smaller diapers. While deciding how many diapers you need I would consider: how often you want to wash laundry/leave dirty diapers in a bin and if you will be mixing cloth with disposables. The diaper type will also make a difference as not every diaper type absorbs as much liquid. Dependant on the material against the skin the child will likely need to be changed every time they expel liquid as not to cause a rash. For our second, some days we were able to use 1 to 3 diaper covers while they were newborn because we just changed the inside and the cover never got wet/soiled. There was a lot here, I hope some of this helps! let me know if you have anymore questions!

      Hi! Since she was born we've mostly used the AMP inserts shown in the video. They've have been really great for us we've used them for 19 months now and will be using the same liners with the second kiddo! Well worth it. The company is Canadian and does not sell directly from their website but I do believe well.ca has the entire line in stock.

      Prefolds from Green Mountain diapers or Nicki's diapers are really good and very absorbent! Anything hemp or bamboo or cotton or combination of said materials are really good and absorbent. Friendly Reminder that microfiber can't go against baby skin. I also really dislike microfiber because it tends to lose absorbency overtime and hold on to stink overtime. I've cloth diapered two children from birth and I am about to cloth diaper a third and I got rid of all my microfiber a long time ago.

    Can I do the same thing but use pockets instead of a cover?

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před 5 lety +1

      Absolutely a trifold into a small pocket will work! The method we've used here is for when the little is too small for the pocket method yet or if you wish to keep the outer cover clean in hopes to use the cover several times before washing.

  • @kendellefawcett7997

    How often did you change the diaper at the newborn stage? Was it more often than every 2 hours?

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před 3 lety +3

      It varied throughout the day and night. When babies (and adults) sleep they emit a hormone that prevents them peeing during sleep. After our babies woke we would use elimination communication and put them on a potty right away. The dry diaper would go back on. A dry clean diaper can last for hours like this. Other times after a large feed if they were awake we would be changing every 15 minutes. We always change our children as soon as the diaper was wet or soiled. There were times were we completely omitted the diaper and just did diaper free too!

  • @xXRandomPianoXx
    @xXRandomPianoXx Před 2 lety +1

    Does this affect the size of the clothes you put on baby? In other words do I need to size up?

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před 2 lety +1

      It depends on the brand of clothing. Some baby clothes have a larger hip/bum to accommodate diapers. For the most part I’ve found you do not need to size up much if you do at all.

  • @therealdaisyduke
    @therealdaisyduke Před 5 lety +1

    I thought you had to put the liners in the pocket? Or are both an option?!?

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před 5 lety +3

      Both! This method allows you to use the diaper cover again (assuming it wasn't soiled). We are out of this stage of diapering now, but when they are little for daytime use this method was really nice for preventing blow outs and saved us from having to purchase many many diaper covers. At night a stuffed diaper is great for comfort and if it's already prepared before you wake in the night, very easy to put on in a groggy sleepless state (for all the tired moms out there😉). Thanks for watching!

  • @yariyari3053
    @yariyari3053 Před rokem

    So I just recently bought some.. my daughter is currently 6 months… how does this work? Do I change it every-time she wets or has a blowout? and then wash at the end of the day towards bed time? Or how does this work? And what about during the night ? Still cloth or disposable?

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před rokem

      Yes, every time the diaper is wet or dirty it needs to be changed. At six months you would be able to get away with a trifold, fold the square clothe liner into three and place into diaper then put the diaper on and snap close. At night you can use cloth but again will need to change it when the baby wakes to pee. if you don't want to change it when they wake to pee you can leave disposable diaper on until the morning. Wash the diapers when you need to, this depends on how many diapers you have purchased. We do ours about every other to every three days.

  • @yariyari3053
    @yariyari3053 Před rokem

    So when the liner gets wet or dirty u change it like a regular disposable diaper? And what about poop? Wait for it to dry and then throw in washer? I’m so confused 😕

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před rokem

      Yup, no kid should have to sit in their waste disposable or not. As soon as they poop you change them. The poop gets tossed and flushed on the toilet if they are on solids. If it’s breast milk poop, it’s benign and is washed with the rest of the diaper liners. I throw all of our diapers in a pail (dry). Then when it comes time to wash I place them in the washer and run it with a pre-soak first to loosen everything up. Dependant on the brand you use, they may recommend something different.

  • @aleynahobbs1964
    @aleynahobbs1964 Před rokem +2

    Is it not more difficult to clean the poop in the cloth diper

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před rokem +1

      It would depend on if you use a disposable liner and if your child is on breast milk or solids. Also depends on your washing machine and what it can handle. We’ve gone with and without liners and have had a garbage machine and now a nice one. We have had no problems in all situations. The best suggestion I have is to clean it as soon as it happens so it’s not mushed everywhere. 👌

    How to clean it🤔

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před 3 lety +3

      Dispose of solids in the toilet, do not place any solids in the washing machine. Keep all diapers in a dry pail until ready to wash. When it's time to wash, place all diapers on a hot rinse cycle (just water no soap). When rinse cycle is finished wash hot on heavy load (again without soaps). Hang dry or dry on high heat for additional cleansing.

    How are these in public

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před 3 lety +1

      We've had no issues being out and about in cloth diapers. The diapers are changed just like we would change a disposable. The biggest difference is, instead of throwing the diaper in the trash it is thrown into what we call a wet bag (a cute waterproof bag that we keep in the diaper bag). When we get home we turn the wet bag inside out and empty the contents along with the diapers into the diaper pail. Thanks for watching!

  • @EdnaBlossoms310
    @EdnaBlossoms310 Před 3 lety

    So this method is for newborns only? The one where they insert the insert inside the diaper is for bigger babies?

    • @Antlers_life
      @Antlers_life  Před 3 lety

      You can use this method with any age however it works best with the littles. I prefer this method for younger babies because you can simply remove the insert and replace with a new one rather than having to change the entire diaper. It saves on washing the cover. When using this method on older babies, you can omit fanning the top out. Simply place the folded insert, place inside the diaper as seen at 1:46 then lift cover and snap close.

  • @Kindlycallmecarebear
