  • This is a demonstration of a four-axis reaction wheel assembly designed for an AFIT 6U Cubesat Bus. I designed the mechanical system in Solidworks. I wrote OOP C++ code to operate the motors and activate them to perform an eigen-axis rotation in a feedback loop with an input quaternion from external attitude sensors (not shown). For this demonstration, the attitude data was preprogrammed such that the assembly would rotate about the vertical axis. The assembly is suspended by fishing line attached to a swivel.

I love engineers like you. I'm 13 and have started making a 3u CubeSat, but I'm afraid I can't do anymore as I have a lack of skills and equipment, as well as money / resources

Apricity Rebound You have the ability to learn new skills as you progress, move along with the project as you learn new stuff that you can apply to your cubesat and just test and try different things. When you're in your twenties, launching cubesats will probably be much cheaper than what they are now and by then you probably will have something to actually send to orbit. Skill, resources, equipment and money will come to if you want to acquire them. Learning new skills is easy in this era of Internet.

Hi Tim. Nice Design. How are you affixing the reaction wheels to the motor shafts?
