  • In this video I show you how to completely take apart a browning model 1922. I filmed this video at 0200 in the morning so I was a bit tired so please excuse my fumbles.
    I decided not to refilm the video since the pins are loose I would just be refilming the sane struggle.

    The basic field strip on this pistol was not nearly as challenging as I had previously thought. Even though this did not happen to you in the video, I did have to hold in the release button in the near barrel as it constantly wanted to fall out. Thank you posting this video!

    My trigger pin also was very tightly fitted. Simple pushing wasnt enough to move it. So i used a hammer. Small screwdriver and two hammer hits - and pin removed.

    I just took mine apart. The firing pin & spring stayed on the receiver. For some stupid reason, I pulled the trigger. DON'T do that. By the grace of all that is holy, I found the spring, firing pin and pin in the rear of the spring. Your video made reassembly quite easy. THANK YOU 😄

      Greetings from 2 years in the future. I just did the same thing 30 minutes ago. Off comes the barrel and slide and.... wait, this doesn't look like in the video! I didn't pull the trigger but I swear I just BREATHED on that compressed firing pin spring and everything went flying. Fortunately, found the pieces. But now I know why the gun sat for 30 years... tip of the firing pin is busted off. Everything else about the gun seem to work flawlessly. I'm gonna find a new firing pin and get this thing running again.

      @@grandmasmalibu I sold mine a year ago to a friend who put in a good bit of effort to restoring the gun. He didn't refinish it, but replaced a few well worn parts and it is in much better working condition now.

      @@Pichouette Yep, working condition is what I'm shooting for, too. Ordered a new firing pin last night for it. This was obviously a service weapon at some point in its life. I like the patina, just want the guts to work. Hard to believe John Browning designed this thing. Aside from the grip safety, nothing else about it feels at all familiar.

    So I just inherited one of these. It's a fascinating gun. Ours was able to fire once and then ceased to work. Seems like several people have had this problem. That is what has brought me to this video and I thank you very much for your instructions. I was wondering about the process for full disassembly.
    However, one thing I have noticed on your Browning is you are actually missing one piece (Firing pin follower) which isn't surprising considering ours was missing it as well and a gunsmith tried to replace it with some other incorrect piece. I just ordered mine the other day. Also have a new spring kit my Dad had ordered before passing. He was thinking maybe the springs had gone bad.

    • @fattywithafirearm

    When disassembling the frame, you should remove the Safety Catch, after the grips have been removed. This makes the process much easier. Similarly, when reassembling, the Safety Catch should be the final part to be installed before the grips. Once the Safety has been removed, push out the pin that holds the Safety Grip..........

    Thanks for this video. Very clear and concise and very helpful. I was just given a 1922 by a friend. I do notice, though, that your gun appears to be missing the Firing Pin Spring Follower / Guide (which, I now see, are actually available from Numrich!).
    Now I need to figure out if mine was civilian or military. It's missing the Waffenamts, which makes it military, but the barrel (with the correct serial number, I might add) is in the white - which I'm told makes it military. Quite puzzling.

    The one & only time I dry-fired my late Father's 1922, it broke the firing pin. Suggest having a snap-cap chambered when dry-firing for disassembly.
    UPDATE: the sear and mag-out-safety ARE loose. I put a tiny piece of scotch tape over those holes on one side of the frame, then insert those pins. Saves a bunch of frustration.
    UPDATE: like on of the posters below, I purchased a replacement firing pin (and new magazine) for Dad's FN Browning. 32. When I tried it on the range, it fired once and locked up with a live round in the chamber. I had to remove magazine and VERY CAREFULLY remove barrel extension lug, essentially field stripping it to clear that live round. Since then, I have modified the new firing pin to match the dimensions of the original (broken) firing pin; however, the weapon will not function with more than 2 rounds in the original mag. With new magazine, the problem is worse.
    A real "head-scratcher." Suggestions appreciated

    I was advised NOT to dry fire too much - leads me to believe the firing pin must "crystalize and break" (???). The price of firing pins and difficulty of finding them suggest that is correct. I use a pencil with rubber eraser down the barrel so the rubber cushions the pin.if and when its necessary to drop the pin.
    Also on my pistol (at least) the small latch and spring on the nose piece ARE NOT contained in any way and first time mine fell out. luckily into a tray.I was using.
    PS the word is 32ACP is soon not going to be manufactured. So stock up.

    • @fattywithafirearm
      @fattywithafirearm  Před 3 lety

      Yeah you shouldnt dry fire these old guns. Iv been trying to stock up on 32 anyway. I hope companies dont halt all production of 32acp. I can understand manufacturers not making 32 during the ammo crunch while other calibers sell better and faster.

      I noticed that too. My 1922 has a "follower" pin in the hammer end of the firing pin spring. Lost it once when I was taking it down to clean. As I was pulling the spring out, the follower flew out across the garage. Found later fortunately. Numrich now has all of Commemorative Arms parts, so it is likely you can get an original new part. Mr. Riggio has retired and sold them his entire inventory. Numrich is showing it in stock for $ 9.75 Part Number 2107660A.

    Hey that was a handy video. I've got a '44, 42? I cant remember,(which ever is the more common stamped one), occupied model my great uncle picked up in the WW. Your vid helped me dissect it. I carry it every now and then when I hike. Actuall kind of a awkward little gun. Nothing about it fits my hand. Just big enough to not be a pocket pistol. Odd creature. Back when all the ammo scaresness was going on I found of all things several boxes of 50 .32acp on a shelf. Never been what Id call common around here ever. Anyways I got to shoot the old rascal again.

I replaced the pin with a new original one from eBay after having one from Gun Parts Corp not work. Now it fires but only with a round in the chamber and an empty magazine. Any suggestions on where to look? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

      odonusa007 so it fires with an empty magazine inserted but with a magazine that has ammo in it the gun won't fire?

    • @odonusa007
      @odonusa007 Před 6 lety +1

      fattywithafirearm that’s correct. If I load a magazine with more than one round and rack the slide, it will not fire. I can continue ejecting rounds until the mag is empty. When the last round is chambered and the mag is empty it fires. Strangest thing I’ve seen yet.

    • @fattywithafirearm
      @fattywithafirearm  Před 6 lety +1

      That doesn't make any sense. The only thing I can think of is when the magazine is loaded it might be putting pressure on the trigger bar and that's why it wouldn't fire. Bc that round in the mag puts pressure on the mag since its pushed against the bottom of the slide. Man that's all I can think of.
