Very useful explanation. Unfortunately, in my case, OpenOffice crashes when I try open the datasource (as shown at 3:28 in the video). However, it does work when saving the spreadsheet as a .csv file, and then in the "connect to existing database" select the "Text" option to load the .csv file.
