    If you want to move your piano both SAFELY & properly, make sure to consult your local music store.
    If they sell pianos, its highly likely they have piano-moving team specifically dedicated to this with years of experience.
    Do not trust a regular moving company without first consulting someone who handles moving pianos regularly: music store!!

      This is so unnecessary...taking off the music desk, hinges, and lid. Just more things to get damaged being separated from the piano. Im moved over 3,000 pianos and never damaged a single one keeping those parts on. It also makes less things to carry/drop, saves time, and less likely to leave at the warehouse/storage area. No thanks

    • @MarcLaurens1
      @MarcLaurens1 Před 3 lety +1

      @@mikerollins3088 as I understand it, the piano is tipped onto side where Edge of lid would be, leaving lid would put piano weight on the edge of lid and hinges.

    • @mikerollins3088
      @mikerollins3088 Před 3 lety

      @@MarcLaurens1 you're right as far as tipping it onto the side with the hinges...however, on a skidboard we only slide the piano over far enough so the lid rests up AGAINST the padded board that transports it. We dont pull the lid up and ON to the board, so there is no weight bearing on the lid or hinges and therefore no damage results. I definitely understand why you would mention that tho. Just not something to worry about with the technique we use

    By moving a piano especially an old one the most important thing is to fix the hammers with some band of soft sponge protecting the hammer shank against shocking and breaking caused by heavy vibration of the transport. By upright piano it's easy to realize by a grand one it's requires much more doing...

    so very wrong - I'm a second generation piano store owner. DO NOT EVER ALLOW A PIANO MOVER TO REMOVE THE PIANO LID. You don't want the action and strings (the expensive stuff) unprotected and accessible on (of all things) a moving truck. Also why risk scratching the case by having movers remove & reinstall your piano lid hinges. The hinges are not meant to be removed unless the piano is being refinished. It weakens them plus you risk losing the pieces. WHO BLANKET WRAPS A PIANO WHILE IT IS VERTICAL AND EXPECTS THE BLANKETS TO REMAIN IN PLACE DURING A MOVE? Drape the piano with multiple blankets while still ON ITS LEGS. Secure the blankets with plastic wrap. Then place it on its side. Now you have a protected piano ready to be moved. Check out this photo of a properly wrapped piano. facebook.com/pg/jcc2c/posts/ On the positive side - they did remove the pedal lyre prior to moving.

      removing the lid allows for a lighter piece to carry and maneuver ! secondly if you wrapped and shrink wrapped it while still standing you would never be able to remove the legs since they are flush with the edge , not sure how you are a second Gen mover , but if the hood pins were not removed and was wrapped how you suggested when the piano goes to the moving board it takes all of the weight of the piano and applies all the force to the two lid hinges which will definitely weaken and stress the screw holes and you have a greater possibility of permanently damaging the lid or hinges or causing a serious misalignment issue or even bending the hinge or breaking the hinge from the whole itself which would require serious restoration to the piano ... these gents did it flawlessly , take note when building and disassembly at a piano factory the same steps are exhumed.

    You should drug test the movers working a little to fast.

    This is really not the proper way to do this. if done properly, one skilled mover can disassemble and wrap a grand piano by himself in five minutes, without speeding the video up. The first mistake was to remove the music desk, the second was to remove the lid. You are just increasing your risk of damage by doing so.

    My best friend hasn't slept well in a while due to his kids nightly screaming about monsters. Can you come get the monsters? To where do you move them?
