They use multiple small shrimps, one with tail on, lined up then breaded them, leaving the tail of that one shrimp exposed :) I've been eating this product for years and, recently (2022?), I first noticed that they changed the packaging. It used to be every five tempura shrimps were in one foam tray, shrink wraped, and you get six trays in the box. When I saw they skimped on the packaging, I thought would they skimp on the shrimp, too? Of course! Inside the shrimps seemed to be smaller (smaller shrimps are cheaper). Outside dimensions didn't change so the breading is now thicker. So now it's more profitable selling this at the same price :)
I'm not surprised to read this at all. I drove all the way out to Costco to satisfy a craving for this shrimp, and was I ever disappointed. Waste of time and money.
I was wondering how the tempura shrimp by Kirkland is. Thanks for the review. I don't mind the oil, I'll either put it on a paper towel or let that oil go into my rice and have a nice crunchy vegetable and make rice bowls! I'd like to know the story behind your name The Unfocused Lady

I used to love Costco‘s Kirkland Tempura Shrimp. For old time sake, I bought a box of the 30 count 3 days ago. I came home and put 10 of those in the oven; the quality was poor. It was a greasy crunchy mess that rendered the little bit of shrimp flavorless. After having cooked it, my place stunk like rancid oil for 3 days. I mean, I had windows open, fans going, the AC going, scented candles lit, just to try and diffuse that rotten smell. So today, I took the remaining 20 frozen shrimp back to Costco for a refund. That seemed to irritate the refund guy, well that's just tough, isn't it? After all, it’s not my fault their 30 count, frozen tempura product has been reduced to garbage. Buyer beware.

I didn't refund did took me a while to finish this. One each time. Can't handle more than one...
This is 4 dollar off now in Costco
Really I should have waited. I don't think I will buy again too greasy. Today I ate again felt the same greasy.
