Largest Bull Meets His Match during the Elk Rut

- Elk Bull Fights are numerous during the Rut in Canada's Rockies, but this one was especially striking. Here is a close look at the Largest Elk Bull in this area.. first, a couple clips over the last month, before today's marathon fight with this younger rival. The younger rival has not been stressed near as much during the height of the rutting season, and clearly had the stamina to outlast one of this areas most dominant bulls today. The Bull that conceded defeat today has been the most dominant elk bull in this area now for years. This well known King has had to battle and run off rival bulls on almost a daily basis over the last month and a half, of which shows athleticism and genetics that are extremely rare. We suspect he decided it was more important to preserve his energy as very few cows remain in estrus. He did sustain some injuries here, but will likely be back to fight another day. More on Elk..

I have a suspicion these boys had the same daddy. Very similar antler configuration... sweet vid.!!
True
Brotherly love
Maybe traveled in the same batchelor heard too, looks like they may have sparred before.
@@dryocampa bro why u talking. This guy literally has an elk as his pfp
@@chao9812 That’s not an Elk, that’s a Muley. Profile pictures don’t mean anything either, anyone can upload anything, it’s not proof of experience or knowledge.
Elk are like deer that are built like bison. They are like giga-deer
They are like Dire-deers
They are chad deer
More like deer and moose
@@zay_rat8942 indeed Tom nook, oops forgot to pay my rent
They really are. I love the tails on all of those lovely creatures
Amazing footage, what magnificent animals! Man, they look so winded after that battle - what energy they must expend doing that!
Meanwhile off screen there is a bull with little horns bangin the cow
Those satellite bulls don't hang around the herd for nuthin'. They know how and when to steal a piece every now and then. [Laffin'😄]
Happens all the time.
That did make me laugh
As if a female would accept such a weak male and risk giving birth to weaker offspring, but I do see the joke and it made me chuckle.
@@morningstarlink the horns aren’t really a sign of strength. They are a sign of how old the bull is. But some horns look different. That is the appearance, the size is usually determined by the bulls age
The elk rut win the Canadian Rockies is unreal. Nice job filming this sequence!
Thank you for your support!
Thank u sir for not adding bs music amazing video
Thank you for your support Jonathan! We always prefer nature.
Joe Rogan had me look up these beasts fighting
“Finally a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary!”
Now we have to call one Po and the other Tailung
i think its incredible we have whole species of animals that headbutt each other for so long evolution was like "yknow what, lets grow something to stab them"
"What a wonderful worldddd"
I love how at the end of it they’re both panting like “can someone get me a Gatorade?”
Cow in the background looking away .... Ah the Boys are fighting over me again !!
Seeing that female in the back really says what is at stake. Love it! 😎👍
Some elk Coochie 😵
I'm out of breath just watching. These guys are exhausted.
This just proves what I said to my bud. Rack-size doesn't matter. It's strength and stamina.
Could have a 5pt bull with a moderate rack be top dog in a herd because he can out-fight the older ones with the bigger antlers.
The old bull in this video's downfall is his rack was too wide, he already got a pretty good injury on his neck by the look of it and the younger bull just kept getting his tines in there to keep jabbing at him until the old fella gave up. Even had one of his tines snapped off!
Yeah, but it is a matter of luck that some of them get through and stab the other one...
Thought for sure you were about to tell a dirty joke. 😂
The power in these animals is amazing
Damn it just don’t poke each other’s back straps!!!!
Haha 😂
Elk fight: "Man, I'm too tired for this mess." "You wanna keep going on?" "Yeah, wtf. Party time later!"
This is so cool, to hear it first hand close is even better
Thank you Alan!
@@WildlifeOnVideo thank you just keep making videos ,they are great.
I still think the cows should all stand in a circle and watch.
lol she looked bored
Perfect moment for the wolves to move in lol
Can see they were both completely worn out. The older bull just couldn't hold on against the younger bull. Thanks for posting!
The cow in the back is so funny. She's trying to be non chalant aboit the whole thing.
Young bull standing there afterward like "TELL ME SOMEONE FREAKING SAW THAT!"
I got to see bull elk in Jasper, never thought much of them but seeing them for the first time they're impressively big animals.
Maybe not the size & strength of these beasts though. Amazing photography.
Joe Rogan would be proud
Yes I just watched that podcast he was on talking about this. I love how he talks about being in the woods is a human reset, because nobody gives a fk who you are lmao
Clackedy clack
yesssirrrrrrrrrr
puas
I do not and will not hesitate to call this a clash of titans!
That’s beautiful these creatures have antlers, deer, elk, moose
The older elk got one tine broken off. :( But he's still super impressive. So is the youngster.
GREAT fight! been a long time since I've Senn such a good match up
The closest battle we have ever seen. We think it may have gone the other way earlier in the Rutting season. Thank you!

Świetny film👍. Gratuluję😃
Thank you Roland!
Another great video! Thanks! It's wonderful to watch one of nature's greatest spectacles. Two magnificent bull elk fighting is truly something to see.
Thank You Joe. Really appreciate your feedback!
Hi
What a stunning view!
Who’s here after Joe Rogans and Andrew’s podcast? 😂
Literally me lol
Well captured! 🦌 👍
A lucky evening! Thank you.
Thank you so much...great video..all those gorgeous fir trees ❤😉
fine video.
amazing video and (some) audio. well done, thanks for this. the 'losing' elk was a little bloodied, perhaps got jabbed but his opponent's antlers.
Thank you Robert!

did the audio cut out near the middle for anyone else? I was hoping to hear that spar
One hell of a fight both were spent
Yes, the longest battle we have ever seen so far. Thank you!
Absolutely awesome. I've seen several WT bucks sparring while hunting, and a pair of raghorns once. But these two monsters were pretty impressive... And just spent after.
Ol' man bull just won the battle... Now he needs a nap while little raghorn sneaks in and breeds some of his cows.
At the very first 1 second mark! That is just the most beautiful picture!! Wow! I would blow up the image and hang it on my wall!!!
The spread of the older bull's rack was definitely a disadvantage
Great Video.
Thank You!
These beast are just majestic
Really do not want to hear boss music when I see one
Let’s get some audio!! Epic vid for sure!
Sorry, we were too far away and near too much background noise to capture that during this battle. Some new additions allow us to capture better sound in tough situations now, however. Thank you Taylor!
Elk are so badass!
At the end of the fight, they looked like me when I went to the Frying Pan Wilderness Area to hunt.
Proof of the hunting guides and outfitters who have always stated that trophy hunting culls the oldest and most worn out bulls.
Wonderful video
Thank you for your support!
In New Zealand about 60 odd years ago, they introduced Elk. They were out competed by red deer stags that despite being way smaller were more successful at breeding. For about 15 years there were some magnificent cross breeds and for the last 40 years no elk or Wapiti, only red deer
That is very interesting.. Thank you Joe!
What are you talking about? The still live on the south island. And there's even a video of a red deer and an elk fighting
@@zebrahunter6956here are no elk left, only the odd hybrid.
I still can’t believe my dad actually roped one back in the early 70’s…
One word: *EXCEDRIN*
*How do the horns grow exactly the same shape on their mirror side? Even our hair grows at different rates and shapes though? Nature is incredible!* 🤔🤔🤔🤔
It really is incredible to witness. The genes of One Bull handed down to the other Seems to also grow in a similar way. Fathers and Sons will look Familiar. DNA at work, and it is Amazing! Thank You Newt USA!
Such similar antler genetics I wonder if they were related possibly brothers. Maturity wise I would guess the older bull might even be a parent to the smaller bull.
Yes, that is possible. Thank you Nick!
I'm guessing same daddy moms were sisters same age
😉
Amazing
These elks can sing better than me
Hard to believe that they shed those racks and grow a new one every year.
They are just eating grass. The one walk away was like.... I have a pain in my chess and I can't breaf.
@@gmoney1762 I'm not mexican, so I don't know how to take that. 🙏
@@gmoney1762 i get it.
1:05 the battle cry before the match
🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's cuteeeee lol
Are the first two guys brothers? they have the same thing going on in their right antler as opposed to their left
beautiful film of beautiful animals, thank you for sharing
Thank you for your support Douglas!
Is this in the Pyramid Lake area of Jasper? I was there in September, 2019 and saw a lot of elk, including of young bulls who were play sparring so close to the road Ithat I could barely fit them both in the frame shooting out the car window with a full frame camera and a 70-200 mm lens. I was trailer camping in Banff and Jasper (also saw Yoho and a little bit of Kootenay) for most of the month of September but exited a few days earlier than I'd planned because of the approaching snowstorm at the end of September.
This was actually in the Main entrance triangle. These two have now fought several times, but never in front of so many as on this day.. almost a half hour battle! Thank You Don!
Both Elk shattered after the fight. Winning Elk looked more tired than the loser.
Well filmed.
Thank you Joseph! We agree! ..the loser of that battle is back ruling again this year so far.
@@WildlifeOnVideo super to follow the rut and know your Elk so well.
Thank you for your support Joseph!
Elk rut to me in more intense than bison rut......these guys get down right nasty about it
Yes, there have been some that are not able to make it past these battles. Thank You!
Elk - so wonderful
Yeh it's wonderful fighting
Your videos and channel content is best of the best! Love it!!
That is very kind, thank you High Desert! We have enjoyed your videos as well.
Красота! Великолепные олени!!!
Videos don't convey the true scale of these mighty beasts. It wasn't until i was seated in a restaurant where a large elk head was mounted on the wall above the table that experienced the actual size of these bulls.
This is one of those, congratulations, you just won a lot of grief. 😉
Dam that's just amazing to watch. Wish I could see that but I live in Philadelphia so I can't
I believe Pennsylvania and/or Virginia used to have an Elk population at one point, but it was hunted to extinction. Same thing with Caribou in Maine up here in New England.
PA definitely has a decent elk population thanks to the rocky mountain national elk foundation.
You don't go on vacation? I'm not trying to flex like I can afford to go anywhere. I can't really so most of our vacations are within the state, but my wife and I save up and every 3 years we take a really nice vacation. It's worth it to see, and experience the things that you want to. You only live once after all.
Epic footage. I really enjoy your Elk videos.
Thank You very much Mama!
5:45 - while these two go both literally and figuratively head to head..... the object of their "disagreement" passively grazes nearby..... not even looking!!!
Been there, done that. Homegirl is probably just waiting for the outcome so they can be done with it lol
The females are thinking ‘Boys will be boys’
They appear to b the same size both are magnificent
es divertido este video.
Wish i could have heard those massive racks slamming into each other. Those bulls were huge!
Yes, sorry David.. they were pretty far away and there was a lot of background noise near us. We have been better prepared since!
@@WildlifeOnVideo just the footage alone is incredible I can just only imagine the noise those racks made!!
Succession of the harem, when younger bulls, take on the mature bulls, for right to breed the Cows. A tradition as old as time. Nice video, and camera work, but sound would of been a extra nice touch. Thanks.WR, 🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸🦌🦌🦌🦌
Thanks again for your support Robert! Yes, we really wish we had good audio here, but we were quite a distance away and there was a fair bit of commotion in our vicinity. Maybe we can clean it up and post it again.
*"Bull: I'm badass fear me!"*
*"Also Bull: **00:57**"*
I was watching Joe Rogan on the Flagrant and now im here
Did you go pick up the broken tine/point?
No we didn't. Thank you.
Enhorabuena video saludos desde Georgia...
Thank you!
@@WildlifeOnVideo You are...
I wonder if their necks be hurting or not 😂from how big and heavy their horns is... When i get big braids like box braids sometimes it makes my head feel like its finna roll off 😂😂😂
Yeeee🔥
sad to think how many beautiful animals have died because of a trophy. i mean look at these beautiful creatures. Like a painting painted by a perfectionist
We all know who brought you here😏
The shape of his antler kept allowing him to shank the old bull
Great video, only wish you would have left the sound on.
Hi Jason! We wish we could have captured good sound as well.. they were quite a distance away and we had background noise on this one. Thanks for your support!
6:26 big guy on right won ?
That deep jus minding its business 😅
This is like when I wrestle my dad.
Elk are so cool I cant wait to go hunting for one some day
You have red stag in Australia they're kinda like elk
Male elk are bulls. Best meat on the hill is cow elk honestly
Yeah good luck… All the leftist morons put Canadian wolves back into the mix. They’ve been running rampant for the past decade, and they’ve decimated the elk herds. Now that the states have been passing legislation to promote aggressive hunting and trapping to keep the wolves in check, your city buddies are trying to put pressure on DC to grant wolves federal protections yet again. It’s absurd.
Do everyone a favor and stay in your safe space. Tell your friends to stop ruining our way of life. Manage your own wildlife populations…
Imagine saying they’re cool..: and then saying you can’t wait to kill one.. always knew animal murderers are thick and retarded af
Samen met mijn hometrainer heb ik 20 kilometers gefietst ,en genoten van
de natuur
im just imagining bambi vs ronno rutting and they are just panting heavily, still as their antlers are still interlocked, being like yeah man are you ready to go again? I think I've finished recovering while being like 2 inches away from each other haha
Or perhaps more accurately, throwing insults and threats while paused in that posture together haha
Super fighting
When equally matched, offer battle.
Do elk ever get their antlers tangled like deer when they are fighting
When Stannis finally faces Tommen
What if we had human ruts
We do. What do you think causes 90% of the bar fights in the world? Men fighting over women.
Men definitely do fight over women.
Some women fight too 😅
Pretty sure that's just called "men existing"
সুপাড়,,,লাগছে💜💜💜
After all that battling of testosterone , the winner doesn’t have enough energy to romance the female.
Is this like some sort of metaphor?
@@chao9812 no that’s literal
