Despite poverty, Islam in Cameroon is strong

Even though Muslims in Cameroon are a minority and poor, their faith is very firm and strong, and can even attract non-Muslims to convert to Islam.
Cameroon's Muslim population constitutes about 24 percent of Cameroon's approximately 21 million population. The Fulani, a pastoral nomadic group, spread across early 19th century West Africa primarily through commercial activities and Sufi brotherhoods (Qadiri and Tijani). In the northern provinces, the local Fulani are overwhelmingly Muslim. Another ethnic group, referred to as the Kirdi, generally practice some form of Islam. The Bamoun ethnic group in Western Province is also predominantly Muslim.
