Saw this group perform live in Scottsdale, Arizona. I had to spend a few days there on a business trip. They were doing a Benny Goodman tribute in a brand performance facility built by the city.

Do not forget the terrific Milt Hinton on bass. He has been all his long life, and right to the end, one of the most swinging bass player in the history on Jazz, and he obviously enjoys a lot playing along Butch Miles !

Thanks a million for posting this and the rest of the clips! After having enjoyed the album for many years which this hell of a band recorded prior to touring Japan, now at last, thanks to you "SwingCla", the visual experience.

Butch, I've been a big fan of yours ever since I saw you on Walt Levinsky videos. I love your taste, energy and timing. You and Joe Morello are my favorites. Hope you're doing well.

I love it..I've done a few gigs with Buddy DeFranco..I'm a vocalist. Terry Gibbs was on one of them, and Larry Novack on piano. Was a thrill.

I wish there was a "live" video of Terry Gibbs "Nose Cone" somewhere.
It was my big turn on to Jazz, while my older sisters were playing Rock & Roll records upstairs, my Dad and me were playing his collection of Satchmo, Roland Kirk, Charles Mingus, Gene Krupa, Anita O'Day, Art Blakey, and everybody else that was wicked good.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Just in case there's anyone who doesn't know it - I left the Basie Band one year ago last June. FYI, don't know if the drum chair has been permanently filled.

Herb Ellis looks as if he is half a sleep; however, he is certainly a master on his guitar. Also, Larry Novak terrific on the piano.

Hey, thanks for writing. I wish you played with Basie last summer - the gig at the Empire Plaza in Albany. I enjoyed the band, but you're much more enjoyable to watch than the other drummer (no offense). You always seem just so happy to be there.

Yeah. Whenever you're in Albany or Catskill I tell Maurice (calism23) that we gotta go see this guy, he's the last of the great big band drummers. Whenever you're in town I always e-mail Aaron Woodward and ask 'Is Butch playing?'. There's not enough of you on CZcams. If you have anything to upload, put it on.
BTW, if you're ever not playing and the band needs a drummer, I can do it. Check out my videos to see. And I can sight-read really well. Hook me up!
