Steve was nothing less than the GOAT. His accuracy and power never changed no matter where he went in his range. Just as good as in the studio if not better live. Phenomenal!

My brother, a musician, met Steve in an elevator years ago. He said they talked music and Steve took his time, didn't act like my bro was bothering him, was super nice and down to earth. Groovy singer/musician and human being 🎶🎵💚
In 2022 , this song was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry as being culturally , historically , aesthetically significant.
Steve is famous for sounding better live than in the studio. If you really want to hear the full breadth of how vocally talented Steve Perry is, you should check out the live version in this exact same concert in HOUSTON of the song 'Mother Father'. Then you will understand why music scholars in some of the best music schools in the country still study his voice to this day in an effort to understand how he could hit some the notes that he did. And by the way, a few months ago, Steve was voted as the best rock vocalist ever in a Billboard poll. He won the poll by a whopping 68%. And yes, Freddy Mercury was on that poll. So I guess I don't have to tell you that I'm a huge fan of this guy. Steve will be 75 in a few weeks and still performs occasionally. But mostly he's just enjoying life. The band Journey still performs to this day. Steve left the group in the late 80s/early 90s. And, I LOVE your beautiful smile. 😊😇

Journey is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former members of Santana, Greg Rollie keyboards and Neil Schon Guitarist. Greg was the first singer on the first albums until they found Steve Perry and that changed everything for the band. Greg left the band and the keyboards here is Jonathan Cain.
Actually Prairie Prince of The Tubes co-founded Journey with Greg then bailed.
One of the few singers who can actually sound better than the original studio version.

I love live performances! Going to concerts in the 70’s and 80’s I heard some of the best music ever produced! Great time to be young! The bands sounded even better in person than the studio versions. That’s what makes a great band. 💜👵🏼✌🏼

Steve Perry is a vocal beast please please check out Mother Father live in Houston and Wheel in the Sky live in Osaka the vocals are incredible

My senior year of high school…one of my most memorable concerts at The Houston Summit. Journey had to be one of the best live bands on earth. So, I have a special connection to The Escape Tour and this concert. Seeing all of the people who’ve watched this makes my heart melt. I’m 61 and recall every minute 🤗🎼🤗
I went to this 1981 Escape Tour Concert but.... not in Houston. I went to an arena right outside of Pittsburgh PA. The energy was off the charts and Steve's voice never faltered!!! Great Reaction!❤

Saw them in Phoenix about this time. Maybe even this tour. Hard to remember now. Bryan Adams opened. It was phenomenal beyond expectation.
BEST SINGER EVER.....With the BEST musicians at the top of their game. If ANYONE contradicts this, ask them to better it....or show us where it has been bettered. Years of learning their trade, not like todays so called 'artist' !

I recorded this concert when it aired on MTV… when MTV actually played music…still have the tape somewhere…. Also saw them live on this tour & a couple other tours…tickets cost like 8 bucks… lol

The energy. And it was just about the music. No dancers, no pyrotechnics, just the music. The best rock and roll voice ever. Freddy Mercury wished he had the tone and the ease of Steve Perry's voice.

Steve Perry was 32 then, he is 75 now and still writing music. This is obviously a live performance without pre-recording help because of Steve’s ad-libs. Shout out to his sound engineers and the acoustics in this Dallas venue because even Steve Perry sounds better with help from that.

OMG OMG.. brings back such great memories for me.. I saw the Escape tour in 1983.. 16 yrs old (yes I'm old)... but what an amazing concert.. my very first concert in a big city.. (Philly)...the only other live performances I had seen were at my hometown Delaware State Fair... 90% country.. and yes.. still love my country music but I grew up in Hair Band era..

Rick Beato did a great analysis of this on his CZcams channel as part of his What Makes This Song Great Series. He mentioned that they didn’t sing the title until 3:45 into the song. Most songs these days barely go past three minutes.
This is one of the few songs that never fails to send chills up my spine and goosebumps down my arms. I must sing along, no matter where I may be.

IMO Steve Perry had the best voice in rock bands. Freddie Mercury of Queen comes in a close 2nd.
Steve may well have been the greatest rock vocalist of all time. But Freddie was the greatest rock front man of all time; his stage presence was off the charts.

Patty-I suggest you check out songs from their Raised on Radio concert tour 1986. I went to the Long Beach California performance. My heart still races when I hear any song from that tour.

Hands down the best live concert I ever went to was Journey in 1986 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. I was in the Army and stationed at Ft Dix NJ. Steve Perry live is better than any studio version you can find. He is the quintessential male Rock voice.

Steve Perry is the best vocalist in the world with the voice of a God. His vocal range is amazing like no other and sang with such ease. Truly the best.
@PerrySteve-I am from CT. I love everything Steve has ever done and still is doing. My favorite will always be everything from his Journey days. His voice is like no other. He not only makes you hear the music he makes you feel it. The most amazing vocalist in the world. No auto tune needed because his voice is just that amazing. Will love him always.
