Dude nice job on finding the locations. I don't think most people realize how hard it is to find certain spots. I didn't know that the castle shots from far away were just a matte painting. It fooled me. Haha
Thanks man. This whole video was a rough one....but we did so much research and did it all in one day.
Some locations are hard to find these days.
Very nice 👍, but Tim Bruton was looking for a subdivision and he first looked at Burbank, CA, where he grew up, but it had changed so much that it did not satisfy him. It was actually he’s decorator(production team) that gave him the idea of Lutz, Florida. He came down checked it out and loved it. The weather did help as well. Just like Walt Disney built a Disney world in Orlando, Florida, because the weather is good all year long, plus the lots were huge.
I was in Lakeland and saw the Southgate sign. I immediately recognized it and told my husband that Edward Scissor Hands was filmed there. It was so awesome. We came to this area for Chinese New Year to the Peking House which is across the street from Southgate. I didn't get a chance to explore because I had my kids with me that day. But I thank you and Jessica for taking the time to explore all areas. This is one of my favorite movies.
Never thought I’d say this but I like the subdivision better without trees.
I remember as a kid all subdivisions must have been newer and had very little amount of trees. Everything was wide open. Us kids could be seen everywhere as we played outside as groups instead of being hypnotized by tvs and tablets indoors.
There will never be a feeling better than growing up especially as a kid of the early 90s.
I completely agree I was born in 1989 I feel the 90s is the best era for a lot of things
haha thats hilarious, I was thinking the exact same thing! Much to my own surprise... It think it's the whole fantasy element of the movie. I remember watching Edward Scissorhands back in like... 2006 and feeling depressed for DAYS because I wanted to live in Suburbia. But yeah, it's that whole other worldliness that the neighborhood has. It feels like something out of a dream
I honestly prefer the trees because even though I'm a 90's kid I grew up in older neighborhoods (built in the early 70's and 80's) with big trees. I'm also a "crazy plant lady" who loves trees, so there's that.
Wish I was you
@@Yob98 don’t worry when I get rich I’m gonna remake Edward scissorhands community and rent it out for cheap for the ones who want to live like that
Looks like I gotta pack my bags and move now.
Somebody needs to open up a salon in that space for rent in the Southgate Plaza!
Where the salon was in the movie... the glass wall is now covered up & they completely gutted the interior of the space.
This is so so cool, one of my all time favourites even now as a 40 year old watching it with my own kids. Fantastic job documenting it.
They had lots of trouble filming down in Florida because of all the bugs with the movie lights attracting them.
I wonder whoever currently lives in these houses knows that Edward Scissorhands was filmed there
Most likely as landlords probably used it as a marketimg strategy making it more apealing
@@TerpyTee504 as someone who moved to the area shortly after the film came out, and went to school with several kids who lived in the neighborhood at the time, it wasn't really talked about. I got the impression that it was an inconvenience, and I knew one person who had the interior of their home used for the movie - they said they were put up in a hotel for a week and a crew had changed the interior completely for the set then changed it back. It was a new neighborhood, but the homes to my knowledge already belonged to people. Granted, I wasn't around for the actual filming, was pretty young when I lived there, and the people I got my info from were kids as well, so take all this with a grain of salt.
BlueSoulJim people were already living in those houses. They had to put them in apartments when they were filming on set. In the end, they painted the houses back to normal and everyone moved back into their homes.
@@justthatguy8137 I wonder if they got paid.
Ruple Thaker they probably had the apartments paid for and maybe cash was given. I loved the houses in the oil pastel
This my All time favorite Tim Burton movie 🎥.. Thanks for doing this for us.. you guys Rock !!
I notice now the reason why you can see the sky the most in the film is because there are no huge trees. In 2019 there is huge trees
All over.
This is one of my most favorite Burton films.
They removed all the trees for filming and then put them back after they were finished.
@@AJ17_ they did not. Burton had this actually built in a residential neighborhood with no huge trees. It was sectioned off for filming. After they were done filming people moved in. Community planted them. They just grew over time.
@@AJ17_ Those trees you see in this video where planted after filming of the movie was over. In Florida there’s no dormant stage so trees grow year ‘round. There’s a tree outside my 3rd floor apartment here by Disney that’s grown over the roofline but when I moved in it was only about 8’ high.
Tim Burton has been my favourite movie creator since I was born. I'm now 20. And I love him so much I love his creative kind of everything he puts on screen. This is amazing
Very cool! I live in Lakeland and worked in the Southgate Plaza for many years. They also filmed the upcoming Disney movie, "The One and Only Ivan" in the Southgate Plaza this past June. We went and checked out the sets, it was so cool!
“Middle of nowhere: Dade City” - WELCOME TO MY HOMETOWN haha. There’s actually a house on Blanton Rd that they also used for a few shots.
u live there ?
Really can you tell me I used to live on blanton rd
Omg I live in Florida and I ve been to every town you mentioned but I didn't know that movie was filmed here
I remember about a couple of years ago I passed by that shoppping Center and I went crazy. I love Edward Scissorhands and have seen the movie a lot of times so for me to see that it was incredible and exciting. ❤
I remember visiting the Southgate Shopping Center several times while visiting my parents in Lakeland (I've shopped at the Publix, which is still there) & thought it looked familiar but couldn't place why. A couple weeks later I was watching Edward Scissorhands and I started screaming when it clicked.
"there are no hills like that here, so it was filmed somewhere else entirely" no, that definitely looks like a matte painting
It was filmed exactly where he said. The castle was right there. There are beautiful rolling hills in some areas, including where the castle was. We have pictures we took of it in that very spot. 🙂
@@0518Purple 2:23 don't be foolish. that's a painting. of course they built the castle as a set piece for close-up shots.
Frederick Bird yes. Of course the mountain in the picture doesn’t exist, but the rolling where it was built, does exist. It was very cool to see.
I read it as he said it.
The castle was not a painting, it was a miniature model. You find a YT video about it when u search for "EDWARD SCISSORHANDS miniature effects"
That was great! That movie is a great favorite in our family..and it reminded me to watch it again!👍👩🏭🕊️👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I live less than an hour from there!! That’s so cool
Imagine living in the house where the Boggs did??? I’d never move 💀
that would be cool! i have been to this house the same lady owns this house who bought it in 1990 right after the movie was filmed. its weird i once lived in a neighborhood about 50 miles from there that was built by the same builder and built the same year around 1989 in the same type circle layout and i lived in the house on the comer same as this one that looked almost the same as this house haha weird. google the address if you want to see it on zillow 2021 Garwood Dr Orlando fl. now it has a white fence that was not there back then. my roommate who worked in the art department on the movie used to joke about how we lived in a neighborhood that looked like those houses in the movie
It's currently for sale (April 2022) for $699,900! It was last sold in September 2020 and the people who bought it fixed it up, repainted the exterior light blue like in the movie, redid the kitchen to look almost the same as in the movie (but with new appliances).
When I was little my grandfather lived in a neighborhood like that in Lakeland. The houses were even pastel. I also remember going to the shopping center when they filmed it.
I lived in the Lutz area when this was filming. My mom took us by there one day t i watch them film. And my cousins father lived in one of the pastel houses.
Edward siscorhands my favorite Johnny Depp movie and I love Tim Burton since grade school in the 80s to now! I hope to see more videos of your travels peace be upon you and your family
Wonderful short documentary
Thank you, that means a lot.
The neighborhood and sky look so much nicer without the trees. Probably because the neighborhood was newly built when the movie came out. I wish neighborhoods would still look like that
So true! It also has a cleaner look to it
Nah it looked fake
I grew up in Lakeland and we used to ride our bikes around Southgate shopping center. I remember Southgate still had a Woolworths back then.
The Space Coast Life my sister, friends and I grew up riding our bikes there too. 🙂
I always enjoy watching your videos. This movie had a very distinct look. I always liked how all the houses and cars were painted in those bright colors.
Oh yeah and hairgasms😅
This is how a filming locations vlog is done! Nice job!
It‘s 30 years ago now and still my fave🤩thank you❤️❤️❤️
Those are water oak trees. They grow quickly especially sense florida is pretty much all swap. Tress have enough water to grow and at the time of filming the trees were planted when they finished construction of the neighborhood
Crazy, we live in this area and never knew it was the film location for this classic.
Thank you so much for doing this video. Most of the previous edward scissorhands filming location vids are so old. Its nice to see a updated video. Thank you again.
Yay! Cant believe I'm just now seeing this. One of my favorite movies
It's amazing how large and open Burton managed to make it look on camera and since maturity and vegetation growth has happened over the years how small and enclosed the neighborhood now looks! Thanks Michael.
Amazing! Ireally love Tim Burton. And i really love your channel guys. Kiss from Italy
I love this movie thanks for the video it was interesting seeing what the set looked like without all the pastel colors and props etc
I think I'm gonna go watch it now
I love this so much. This must of been hard work, it is most appreciated!
Great work! Enjoy your style. Other CZcamsrs through the years have done similar but you did focus on a few things the others did not. Thanks for all you and your wife's efforts!
Thanks for showing us a real life view of where ALL the magic took place! This was such a learning experience for me seriously! U rock!!!
Good editing mate I like how you put up the original photos and stuff
Thank you
Wow, I lived in Lakeland from 2002 to 2005, and I never knew parts of this were filmed there.
The shopping center is on Florida Ave S near downtown & Lake Hollingsworth.
Don’t know why this was recommended to me but I’m glad it was. Definitely going to watch more of your videos they are very informative and well made.
Just came across this video. I absolutely love it. Its so cool to see how they changed the neighborhood to make it his own for the movie. Thank you as always for putting out great content!
Haha that’s cool I always thought it was filmed out west
Yes! A new video. I never clicked on something so fast ❤
Made my day. Thank you
I am very impressed to see that the houses have been painted and so much effort has been taken. I watched the film yesterday and thought how it all was shot and set up. I don't know why, but I'm happy to see that the houses really do exist. Especially the shopping center hasn’t changed. Thank you for the very exciting and fascinating video.
Great video my dude very informative. I’m very thankful things like this exist because I most likely will never have the opportunity to go and do all this so you just saved me a trip and summed up some curiosity. Thx
How did they got rid of the huge trees that seems to be there for 100 years already
Forreal, it looks way better without trees
Water oaks. They grow quite fast.
There are set crews in filmmaking that specialize in this kind of stuff. All the trees were removed for filming, and then were put back afterwards.
Um, no @AJ17 There’s no dormant stage in Florida because the weather stays warm. Trees grow all year and very fast compared to northern states.
One of my favorite movies of all time incredible cool job on this guys! 😎
Just blown away by this! Thank you for your dedication! Greetings from Colorado! 🎉
This was awesome. It was SUCH a trip to see how different the houses and neighborhood have changed over the years!!!! You'd never recognise them if you hadn't pointed out which house is which! Great video!!!
I drive past a bunch of these on the regular. Especially the Southgate shopping center.
I lived in Dade City just a couple roads away from the castle. ❤️ I’ve been visiting family there for 27 years now. I’ve always loved that little old town. So many memories.
Just arrived to Orlando yesterday, going to these spots tomorrow. Excellent video to review before heading out. Thank you 😌
Great job ! Thanks for posting about this
Fun fact I lived in the neighborhood and I go to that same shopping center
I miss the Fazoli's that used to be out front where the Five Guys is now.
Man, this is so crazy.. Great video by the way. But man, the neighborhood is almost unrecognizable, especially with all the trees. I am so blown away watching this. In some ways its sort of depressing actually because of all the feelings I have associated to the film. Like a big part of me just wants it to be exactly as it was, or at least more recognizable. But fantastic job, this was really interesting to see.
That part of Dade City is my absolute favorite. I love driving all the back roads.
You guys are the best at this great work! I throughly enjoy every video!
I live right near SG in Lakeland! I remember when they were shooting there! Right off Memorial Drive!
This dope!!! Thank you for putting this together 🖤🖤🖤
I dont think you realized the restaurant they eat at is directly across the street from south gate. Anouther filming location.
You are correct. Towards the end of the video we visit that location but the building is no longer there...in its place is a medical office but we still show that and talk about what once was there
thank you for showing us such a wonderful memories...
This is soooo interesting...I always watch your videos with amazement. Thank you for all your effort guys
Great shirt and awesome video. I visited Southgate the other day and loved the scenery.
Grew up watching this movie and I always wondered about the castle so thank you for that
Also,a couple has just recently bought Pegs house and they have turned it into a Edward Scissorhands museum and they have called the house Scissorhands land
The house is up for sale again as of late March 2022.
One of our all-time favorite fairytales! It's really incredible how much the neighborhood has changed. Is it weird that we liked it better as the more sterile, tree-less environment?
Very interesting. Videos are really good! Keep up the good work!
So cool!! Thanks for all the cool research you did on my all time favorite movie
Thank you for watching...we are always trying to keep life interesting
Edward scissorhands neighborhood: exists
Uncomfortable but nostalgic photos: it's free real estate
A truly appreciate this video. Tks
what a great video! Thanks for making this.
LOVED THIS!!! Thanks a bunch.
I was 10 Years old.back in 1990. I will always love this movie. I am 42 years old in 2022.❤
wow. look at those huge trees that grew over the years. could watch your videos all day. keep it up.
Love your video! Great job finding the location and sharing it😄👍
I wonder why they didn't leave the castle where it was built...
The Southgate Shopping Center was also used in the movie Coneheads
Great work, Michael and Jessica! It made me sad to see the current condition of the homes and landscaping. All the unkempt lawns, etc.
Just watched the movie and I wanted a video showing an updated shot of the houses and you delivered in spades. Thank you,
You guys need to meet the guy who owns/lives in the Myers House here in NC.
Crazy how different the neighborhood looks today with all the trees.
This is fucking awesome!!! Thank you for making videos like this! ❤️❤️
Hey, recently came across your channel. It's awesome! I work in theatre behind the scenes and all your videos are so informative and interesting to me. I'm actually going to visit the Edward House in Lutz in September, when I'm on holiday from Australia. It's all done up now and filled with memorabilia. 🤘😄
I love that movie , thanks for taking us there ❤️
duudee so cool, thank you for the hard work keep it up!
Awesome video!!! I love these types of videos you do! V
Nice work guys!
2:20 the castle was in Dade city. They also made a miniature version of the mountain and castle that probably was put in there during editing.
Nice video bro!! I love you're channel!! Greetings from Italy!!
I love your vids! Keep them coming!!
Been watching your videos for two days straight!! you just gained a new subscriber :)
