The series focuses on life in Greenwich Village's 12th Precinct station house. Initially, it looks at Capt. Barney Miller and his work and home life, but it gradually becomes about the officers of the precinct, including always-on-the-verge-of-retirement Detective Fish.

My uncle was a cop in Skokie Illinois. My dad asked him which police show was most accurate. He thought a while and said Barney Miller. We still crack up over that one.....
WOW...that is so crazy. In the Fall of 2019 my family decided to visit Orlando, FL for Disney World. While we were sitting around the pool a family walked into the same area. The elderly gentleman had a thick NY accent. He and I struck up a connection and talked about retirement etc. (I was a retired school teacher...he was a retired NY Cop). I don't know what made me think of it...other than he had said his job was working as a cop made me think of my favorite show; "Law & Order". I asked if that show was similar to the real world of law enforcement...he said it wasn't "Law & Order". Said the closest to real police officer's job in NY had to be the show; "Barney Miller' I was impressed...cause that was another fav show.
I ❤️ Harris's reaction to Nick about the coffee. "Im gonna pretend I didnt hear that." This show was so well written that we just knew and felt the camaraderie each person had with each other.
This is one of my absolute favorite episodes. You can see Barney and Wojo trying to hold in a laugh when they are talking to the werewolf when he is first brought in.😂😝🤣
Mine as well. Mr. Kopekny is in a few other episodes as well.
@kpri101 The actor is Kenneth Tigar. My favorite is when he played a suspect who thought he was Jesus Christ. They gave him some great lines in that one.

Without a doubt one of the funniest TV shows / episode ever filmed ! Has the “swine flu epidemic” story line w/ Harris flirting with the Nurse; Nick’s laid-back philosophical one liners and the crazy Kopeckny Werewolf guy who is hysterically funny !!!
This was a true classic. I watched it in 1973 when I was just 11 in New Jersey broadcast from WOR TELEVISION STATION NEW YORK NY.

They just don't make good shows like this anymore.
Most of the cast, guest stars, and incidental characters were all stage-trained actors. The intimacy of their interactions reflects that direction. Revel in that.

Ken Tigar as the werewolf in one of his six appearances on the series. There were many actors who played different characters on the show. An ensemble cast who strived for perfection. That's why sixty years later it's still funny, poignant and entertaining.
the producers of today's tv shows can take a lesson or two from BM; that if you're going to ply the public full of thinly disguised social engineering and predictive programming, at least make it entertaining.
Imagine how it would look if Fish took a ride in General Lee trying to extradite a suspect from Hazzard County?
