- After a while, the NC Miata's seat belts seem to retract slower and slower. Luckily there is a solution! Pulling out your slow seat belts and giving them an easy wash as well as adding the updated seat belt guides makes a huge difference in fixing your slow seat belts in the NC Miata.
Here's the service bulletin: www.miata.net/garage/tsb/R086...

Thank you for continually posting NC videos, they're so rare and finding a good one like this is super helpful
For anyone based in UK I did the guide replacement as shown here and soaked the belts in Woollite. That was over a year ago and my belts still retract faster now than shown post treatment in the video here. I tried various methods for years and this is the one for me. Woollite is a detergent for handwashing wool.
Great video! And yes it’s frustrating when you try to leave the car and the seatbelt dangling outside of the car and hit the door cell 😫
You've saved me from so much annoyance! Short video with lots of detail. Thank you.
I just put on the redesigned guides. Huge improvement! Thanks for the tip!
Glad it helped!
Jackson this is an EXCELLENT video! I don't think I have seen anyone else make this mod: you're a star! My 2009 2.0l NC Sport will certainly benefit. All the best, Rob from Switzerland.
loving the new series!
Great video, mine definitely needs it!
Great video, great idea of going through the manual! I have the 2012 NC, and often think I should take time and read manual.
My 2007 manual doesn't mention cleaning seatbelts at all
Just bought a 2010 nc witch has this problem!! Thankyou
Awesome!
Interesting video. Mazda has not solved this problem though as it is happening on ND Miatas as well. Cleaning helps a little.
Nice video although im getting a rollbar early next year with 4 point harnesses so that’s another way to ‘fix’ that problem :D
Thank you
It looks loads better but still not great, I wonder if there is a way to get more tension on the spring?
thanks!
Ordered the new guides! The old retractor is super annoying
I think I will do this one tomorrow. My only other problem is that I wish the guide was 1”-2” further out. I am a bit wide and it often rubs my neck.
@coloredinlight do you think is it possible to cut or remove that central part on the old part in stead of replace that one? Would you make a video trying that change? Thats one of the common problem un our mx5 nc. Thanks and congratulations for a great channel!
A new seat belt guide is like $20. I wouldnt even try to cut it and make it perfect for something that costs so little and comes factory.
Im from Ecuador, here is really hard to get some parts. Take so long and it gets 3x to 20x more expensive. Thats why I suggest to do that.
@@lalmeidaa you should go for it then and see how it comes out
LEONIDAS ALMEIDA Ecuador and nice Greek name. Leonidas 😁👍
Okay,so it's over a year later and I just did this swap. I want to point something out. On my 2008 NC, there are metal inserts inside the plastic seat belt guides. I had to use a dremel tool on the inside of the newer plastic guides in order to make these metal inserts sit flush inside the guides. Didn't your car have these metal inserts?
I dont recall, never had an issue with it.
How much did u get both updated one?
Less than $30
Did you replace the protector as well or just the guides? Doesn’t seem like you did and if it works without then I won’t bother either.
I was wondering this too since the local dealer doesn't have the protectors. I think you really need to have them or modify the originals atleast. If you google the part numbers there is a russian site with them side by side and there is a clear difference.
Questioning same thing here. Hopefully he replies
Made no difference fory 2016.
Need to make full video that includes cleaning & re-oiling actual retention mechanism.
Feel free to make a video
Hmmmm?? Why did you not allow the belt to retract without contact with your hand?
Better but not solved...unfortunately
Sorry to hear!
Colored in Light obviously it's a manufacturing error
all of us now see it as a feature and not a defect 😁
You didn't pull the trim and lubricate the actual mechanism? That's how I just fixed my gfs mx5 seatbelts... also maybe sell the girl car and buy a motorcycle 🏍?
Motorcycles are cool, just haven't found one big enough to fit your gf on the back.
@@ColoredinLight how big could she be and still fit in a miata? I farted in that car once and had to replace the top.
