    Great info on spreading. Couldn’t figure out was happening on my Bristol vellum. I like the toothy feel cause I can put done more color. Thought I was going over the lines.

    Girl thank you so much! I'm looking for a smoother paper and this was very helpful, I'm gonna try the accent opaque
    Update: This paper has completely changed the game, I enjoy coloring so much more now!

    I am not a fan of either of the 3 papers you tried, my got to paper is the Strathmore paper for Colored Pencil, it has a toothy side and a less toothy side, yes I have to trim it with my Fiskars $19 paper trimmer, but it’s relaxing to do at night while watching my favorite shows. I have 10 reams of paper on my small bookshelf and I’m so sick of looking for paper, lol...I’m done with that! Thanks Pamela...

    Thank you Pamela for this great video! I don't like very toothy paper either because they take me a lot of time. I have the Neenah, but I'm not in love with it. I'm going to try the Accent paper.

      I love the Accent paper because I don't need as many layers. I have found though that the Neenah paper works beautifully with other pencils like the Black Widows. I love the Accent with my Prismacolor though!

    Thank You for showing us how different papers interact with pencils. I actually don't understand what spreading is unless it could be the high wax content of Prismacolor pencils. I'd be interested in a look at how Colorsoft and Polychromos would function on different papers as well.

    Thank you for the review Pamela. Have you tried the gray toned paper? What are your thoughts between the tan and gray toned papers, and what do you prefer?

      I don't have the toned gray, but will be getting some and trying it soon. I love the color of the tan so that's why I chose that one. I will talk about it when I do get the toned gray and let everyone know how I like it. Thanks for watching.

      @@PamelasPassionforPencils Thank you Pamela. I really loved the results on the tan paper. I have never tried toned paper before because I thought it would show through the design. I am looking forward to the comparison video between the tan and gray toned papers.

  • @johannahinch1002

    Hi Pamela! I’m so glad you did this video. As a beginner colorist, I had the same thoughts about the Neenah vellum paper but thought maybe it was me not knowing what I’m doing. It takes so much work to get it burnished and the paper outside the lines tends to grab color. The strathmore paper looks really nice but isn’t practical as you have to cut it to fit in the printer and it’s rather expensive. Maybe a good compromise would be if the accent opaque paper came in ivory or tan color.

    • @PamelasPassionforPencils
      @PamelasPassionforPencils  Před 4 lety

      That is such a wonderful idea! It looks like they carry a cream color, but not sure that would be the same idea. I love the grays and tans in the toned papers. I don't mind having to cut it down because it only take a minute to do. The paper that comes in the cream is a heavy cardstock so it's the same brand, but a different paper.

    Thanks for your review of this I have a small pad of the Strathmore tan I've been planning to test out with a sketch of a friends cat so now I definitely want to test it. I used to be a 67lb fan and as you mentioned anymore it's become too much work. I've been enjoying the Accent Opaque White Cardstock Paper, 80lb Cover, 216 gsm at the moment the smoothness seems to work well for layering for me but not enough tooth that it makes my hands hurt.
    I did want to clarify the one you mentioned of the Accent Opaque that is 100lb text, 148gsm or 40lb/bond copy paper I'm assuming as that's your link. Just checking as regular 100lb cover the cardstock version won't make it through most printers I found out the hard way myself at one point :D Its linked correctly was more just avoiding anyone else having the momentary confusion of oh wait she said 100lb this is 40lb on the link :D Thanks again for reviewing hoping to join in one of the color challenges when Im not in middle of a project soon.

      Thank you for your comment. I may try out the paper you mentioned as well. I love the whiteness of the Accent Opaque paper. I did link it correctly and it does say 100 lb text on the side of the package. I was a bit confused too, but made sure that I did link the correct paper since the listing states 40 lb. I am glad you enjoyed the review. Trying out different papers is important with this wonderful hobby because we all have something different that works for us and our own style and preference.

      I do! I love my Black Widows, but haven't had a chance to sit down and use them for quite some time. I should do that video since they're getting ready to come out with another set of pencils very soon. You are looking to see how the Black Widows perform on each one of these papers I assume? Or are you looking for a review of the Black Widow pencils?

    Hi Pamela thanks for the review. I live in Hong Kong and for me choices are limited here. I literally just placed the order for the Springhill 67lb Bristol vellum paper as one colourist highly recommends it. For me I have to pay a lot of money on international shipping so can't order different ones to try - your review helps. Just a question about ur printer - as you said the ink gets blurry after a while of layering on the Neenah 67lbs - are you using inkjet or laser - would that make a difference? I use laser. If you use laser I may be inclined to cancel my order asap before it ships out. I am assuming your Neenah is same as the Springhill as they both have Bristol vellum and both 67lb. Thanks.

    • @PamelasPassionforPencils
      @PamelasPassionforPencils  Před 4 lety

      Hi Nita, I do also have the Springhill paper and it has sat on my shelf for more than a year. It is very similar to the Neenah paper, but I think it does have a bit more tooth to it. I have never enjoyed working with it as many times as I've tried it. It performs similar to the Neenah paper where the pigment spreads as I showed in my video. I know a lot of people love the Springhill paper, but it's just not my preference and doesn't suit the way I like to color. I am already a very slow colorist and working on paper like that is a lot more work for me. I don't like to lay down layer after layer trying to get rid of the white of the paper. I really enjoy the Accent Opague paper as well as the Toned Tan (now that I finally tried it). The only downfall with the toned tan is that it wouldn't fit into your printer and you would need to cut it down. I have an inkjet printer that accepts all of these papers just fine and does not smear with the black ink. I hope this was helpful. Just remember that the choice of paper is all preference according to your style as a colorist.

    Hi Pamela. I would love to know which paper you think is best to use with Faber Castell Polychormos. Something with enough tooth to grab the harder lead in these pencils, but not so toothy that it leaves a lot of white spaces. Thank you !

      I always mention in most videos to check the information on your printer. If you ordered from Amazon, you can always send it back. I'm sorry that your printer doesn't take the paper. I had a very cheap HP printer and it took this paper just fine. I am not sure why your printer wouldn't take it.
