Yeah try and buy a house these days. Real estate agents are in a recession.
This video should mostly be called "Reasons to not move to Bergen County, NJ". I live in a very nice town in Mercer County. I get to beautiful beaches in under an hour, Philly, NYC, Newark airport in an hour, Trenton airport in 20 minutes, beautiful parks, lots of hiking areas, local traffic is fine, lots of shopping and restaurants, live music, golf courses, gun ranges, good schools. People are very nice, the air is fine, climate is better here than in Bergen County. The main reasons to NOT live here are taxes and other high-cost issues, and politics.
😂 You nailed that. Moved to Bergen county from western PA about 15 years ago. There are pros and cons. I have family from southern NJ and it is different and better in other parts of NJ. There are many things I don’t like but enough positives that have kept me here 😊

Exactly! Everyone sees Newark in their minds when Jersey is mentioned. It's a big place! There are beautiful parts of the state (e.g. Frenchtown, Lambertville, ect.) You're minutes from the greatest city in the world!

interesting take. Grew up in Midwest and have lived in Central NJ (yes, that's a thing) for 35 years. Congested? Meh, time it right and no problem. An hour train ride to NYC? Easy peasy. Sales tax on clothing & groceries? Nope. Pump my own gas in a 40 mph wind when it is below freezing? Not since I moved here. Uber to Newark for a non-stop international flight? Yes, thank you, please. Really, the best thing is the 4 seasons, the juxtaposition of urban sprawl to rural beauty and the relatively temperate climite. Will I stay here the remainder of my senior years? Probably not. But I don't regret one minute.
Grew up in western PA, moved to Bergen county NJ 15 years and totally agree with you on the positives you’ve listed. We have beautiful places for hiking, beaches within 1 hour drive, 45 minute train ride to Penn Station, 40 minutes to Newark International. My boro is peaceful, safe quiet with friendly. My husband and I have good paying jobs and there’s lots of good employment in our respective fields. High availability of goods and services and top notch healthcare. Yes it’s expensive and crowded and Route 17 is a Hunger Games experience but we get a lot as well. We definitely will not be retiring here, especially not being native.
Many of these points are for North Jersey. South Jersey is much more pleasant.

New Jersey is sandwiched between Philadelphia and New York City. It is basically suburban areas of these two cities that are about 85 miles apart. Any negatives you hear are the result of the proximity of these two cities.

I moved from NJ to Florida, I loathe NJ but you guys have some of the BEST medical and special education services for pediatrics, and for that after 15 years of being a FL girl, I'm moving back...dragging my feet but my son is deaf has NO access to services here.

I lived in Morris County and moved to Southwest Florida in 2018. I love NJ, but the cost to live there is way too high. If you can afford it, amazing, but if you can’t afford it then you got to move out.

I'm native to New Jersey. I grew up in South Jersey I still live here. We are situated in a place where most of the time, storms pass us by. Last winter, we had a very small amount of snow. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
I was born in NJ, as were my parents&grandparents I escaped in 06 & never looked back.

New Jersey is an underrated state. Most of the people who hate on it have never been there or have only looked across the river from New York. The people are fantastic. I don't mind the no non-sense attitude at all. Much better than when you go down south and everything takes 10x longer than it should.
Thanks! My youngest son, who's 27, even refers to southerners as those in possession of "Southern hostility." In other words, we largely do not see them as being genuine.
I grew up there. The place SUCKS. The people SUCK. The govt and services there SUCK. And its the toxic shitpit of the eastern US. Oh and saying you live in NEW YORK and pass judgment on ANYONE on earth is amusing. There isn't anyone more rude and low IQ than a New Yorker on earth. So when you say they are nice......that is like Hitler doing a shout out.
Grew up in NYC and lived in Montgomery Township for 10 years. I escaped. You can have it. You're governor's response to Covid sums up why NJ sux and is unlivable. Please don't move, especially where I live (not gonna tell where).

i've lived in NJ for over 50 years ... we have issues here just like any other state, but the only thing I saw in your video was "10 reason to not move to the most over crowded part of the state" ... we have great beaches here, hiking trails, more jobs then we know what to do with, we have the #1 secondary education in America, and the top university in the world ... we also have access to a plethora of votech schools to learn trades, and the competition among businesses is awesome. Within 10 miles of my house I have over 100 auto mechanics to choose from, plumbers, electricians, trades people, roofers and so on. I could go on and on, but usually people that hate NJ never lived here. Not to mention we have some of the best hospital and medical care professionals in the country, or at least within decent driving distance.
Awesome comment, I travel to Wildwood Crest many times in the summer and never paid to get on a beach there. She should tell the whole story not just what she chooses to pick out. Imagine feeling so privileged you complain about it maybe taking 30 minutes to drive to a mall.
When I go to other states or I hear from friends in other states, I am grateful to live in NJ. A lot of her complaints are true for other states. She should get out more!
I live in the northern side of nj and do daily delivery across the state.
Northern nj ( influence by NYC) is similar to Manhattan. But the whole state of NY is pure rural with a lot dead zone.
South nj is way more beautiful and what nj is really about. There so many farm , horses table, great beaches. Cape may is one of my favorite locations.
We have all this and so much more in south Florida. We also have no state tax, no inheritance tax, no exit tax, .To put it mildly, Florida blows New Jersey out of the water in just about every category. The beaches are free and you can do what you want on them. Year round sunshine and it warm not like NJ's cold harsh winters.

I’ll give you the tax savings and maybe the weather. But I’m. It a hot weather guy so it’s not a draw for me. I’d rather ski any day of the week over laying on beach.
Florida, Texas, and anything out of the northeast is built wrong. Bitching around about traffic near the city is stupid. Take a train. New Jersey is built well, and despite having hellholes like Newark and Camden, there are some beautiful small railroad suburbs and mountains. I can see why you cannot like living here (even without a car, it's very expensive!) but there are great things in this state, and dismissing the state is dumb.

Defending nj in any way is moronic.
Even with all the things mentioned, IMO property taxes, rent/housing costs are #1 and #2. NJ and California are the biggest exodus states in the country. Even Governor Murphy came right out and said if taxes are your thing then NJ is not your state.

NJ is no worse than most places in this country today. We do have nice beaches plenty of places to eat and lots of shopping. Yes traffic is nuts and the taxes outrageous in some towns but they're a bunch of places that have reasonable tax rates. if we can just get rid of the idiots running the State into the ground we would better off.

Grew up in Monmouth County., one mile from the beach, several tidal rivers to fish in and lots of fresh water too. Wanted to move back after my time in the Army, sadly couldn’t afford it. As a kid I could fish everyday, the summer at the shore was insane. Not a good place to retire. Weather and pollution were and still are a big concern.
I moved here from New York. And let me tell you the worst experience. I had with neighbors calling the building's department on every little thing that I would do to my house. The building's department is very corrupt here in New Jersey. They come to your house given you summons. For every little thing you do on your property, if you don't paint your door a different color if you don't do certain things with your windows and make little repairs, they will give you. Summons, it's like crazy to make money.Here you will be very sorry if you come here.
I just got back from a four day stay in New Jersey. The hotel taxes were outrageous. Between the tolls and the hotel taxes, I won't be back. It's a shame cause there are a lot of beautiful areas there.
The last time I heard someone was moving to NJ was never, I am 50 years old, and I am originally from Long Island, and I now live in MA. I also haven’t heard anyone say they are moving tho NY in decades. Those states are ridiculously expensive, and they don’t offer all too much anymore.
Well I hate to say you're wrong but you are. New Jersey still has a strong sellers market because of the influx of residents from NYC who choose to move here because of the great schools and to get out of NYC. I helped quite a few people buy a home here.
@JackieBaker That's bs. I live here and most people have been crowding out of NY to NJ and vice versa while the market and economy has been crumbling and only becoming more corporate. The only out of staters who come in from places besides NY are merely visiting family or friends. NJ is just NY lite, which is why I don't include NYers as any sort of difference. Your state is only appealing to NYers because NYers had been given the worst luck by god.
Traffic in the Nj to NY connectors are always bad just like any other state connecting suburb to city and yes jersey shore on a sunny day. But you are absolutely right .. road situation is quite despicable along with stupid high taxes.

I live in Pennsville, NJ. It is the best place that I have ever lived. I live along the Delaware Bay, and I love it! There are 2 wonderful parks within a couple miles. There was never a place that I was more content. And I have lived at least 20 other places in my 60 years.

We pay to go to the beach in CT too. When I visited my grand parents old neighborhood in NJ, I was shocked to learn that the bay was on the superfund site.
WOW! That's scary!!! That's the first I heard of a superfund site at a beach!
@Jackie Baker Raritan bay Slag in Laurence Harbor. The sea wall. (I was a Hazardous Waste Coordinator here too a couple years back....in CT) Imagine your (good memories) of your childhood summer stays with your grandparents.... A time when neighbors visited each other. We went on long car rides without having cell phones. We climbed trees, played in the swamp, and lived for traveling by bike to get that bazooka gum down by the bay. Poor people were dignified. Worked hard. Smiled and laughed together through many hardships. Appreciated everything happily! The outdoors were our playground. I'm not going to lie, LOL. We chased mosquito spray trucks with the fog in our faces. We played with broken glass pretending they were gems. It was a blue collar neighborhood. And every summer, my heart was a glee once we crossed the tappanzee into NJ, the land of highway fumes and flat land of some sort of NY knock-off. But to me, it was love. I had went a while without visiting. (The people who now reside in my grandparents old bungalow have even come to know that every few years I take a drive to NJ just to walk down that road only to return the trip home. One year however, it came unexpectedly. Signs of off limits due to toxic lead. Anyway! Supposively it's clean now. (Thanks for letting me share, and for the video!)

@@ThommaduraI live 900' from the beach on space coast in Florida. My 2300sqft house, built in 1984, according to Zillow is in the mid 600k. My fema flood insurance is $600 and home owners including wind damage is $1,860/yr
How long will that last? Have you had an insurance company leave the market on you?
The fact is - you appear lucky so far. I know a number of people who are paying Home owners in Florida at over $3,000 a year - and another $1000 for floods.

I'm in NJ. Have a friend who decided to move to AZ for retirement. Terrible traffic, few stores, with empty shelves, rude people, and worse. It was so bad that within 3 months, she moved back to NJ. She's glad she did.

Paying to go on the beach is aggravating but a beach like the one at Cape May is raked free from debris daily offers amenities like restrooms, showers, lifeguards and is very clean. The police patrol frequently so the nonsense is minimal. I don’t mind buying a beach tag if that gets me a clean safe beach.
We LOVE Cape May! So worth the fee!
I love Cape May. It is my favorite shore point. I love the old Victorian houses and there are many places to eat and shop.

We moved to New Jersey in the early 80s because few people, open land, quiet, cheaper, everyone wants to be in New York
Jackie since you relocated here you must make another video entitled "10 Reasons Why I Moved and Remain in New Jersey!" While I understand you're negativity, many things were not accurate. The roads for instance, are not as bad as they once were, and the people are pretty even keeled, although we do (as you pointed out), have awful traffic and a fast pace of life (you can't deny the excitement though). All in all there's no better people in the country. The pollution is not nearly as bad as you indicated. As a matter of fact, on every single list online, we did not even make the top 10. I know we're somewhere close to the top but not nearly as bad as you indicated. Personally, I wouldn't dare live anywhere else (I bet you wouldn't either - even with your smoke stack thumbnail which misrepresents out great state, rather catering to stereotypes of a misguided populous). And this comes from one who retired from the US government and has been all over the country. What have I surmised? That New Jersey's like every place, but NO PLACE IS LIKE JERSEY. 👊🏿

NJ is one of the only states that charges for their beaches. Again, I love living here despite these things. And I just want to educate, that’s all. Sorry you’re offended by this video. I live in Hawaii it's not too bad and there's no cold weather like New Jersey and no high crime and plus where I live cleanest air and water and our beaches are free year-round
I grew up in San Diego and I love central NJ just as much for different reasons.

San Diego. Lived there for maybe 4 years back in the 70s, 80s.
Had the best weather year round than anywhere. Outdoor life. Loved it, but it was just too far from home, NJ.

As someone who lives in Northern Jersey In Belleville, i gotta say that It sucks up here. Southern jersey like cape may, and wildwood are super nice areas. With the nicest people ive ever met. NORTHERN Jersey near New york Stinks bad. I cant wait to go south for real.

I live in Nj and I can confirm that people here are rude but also there are nice people 😊 also the traffic is a big downside. I live in Secaucus. In Hudson county and I must say traffic is hell here and taxed are hell most of what you are saying is true the school systems here are also a downside especially in Lodi in Bergen County I don’t recommend Lodi that town is a nightmare! But overall I think Nj is fine for family’s looking for small houses definitely not cheap ones lol and the pollution and the overall state drama cost of living
Am a nj resident and I witness that all what you said is true and am looking to move out but waiting for the good moment, I believe through my living experience in nj that this state is for earning money 💵 and hard work only but not a place of a living, work hard in nj make good savings and then leave somewhere where y can get a life…

Looking to buy a house in NJ look at the property taxes sometimes it will increase your payment by 30% so be wise and investigate the fees over your mortgage payment. Having been looking for a second home and every time the taxes hold me back.
Because - IF you buy a house - the State will confiscate a good chunk of your sale price - as if you need to pay to get out of a State that is 2nd only to New York in DESTROYING COMPANIES AND JOBS!!!
Ask anyone who moved to North Carolina because the company got out of Jersey and you had to follow to AFFORD a house.
And - yes - I drove across the entire country and the roads only broke apart when I took I80 thru NJ!

Expand your horizons and move to south Florida and live a little a fun and competitive life. All I see in south Florida are NJ and NY license plates even in the summer. We have better beaches by far and they are Free. No state tax, no inheritance tax , no exit tax, no death tax etc. We have very nice casino's , better food and a multitude of attractions.

I move to nj and I regret it! I was hit by a car as a pedestrian. Walking across the street and nj is a not fault accident state. I can’t even go after the person who hit me with there car for insurance to get better. They saying I need auto insurance to not suffer fighting to get better. Having to use nj Plega. I been fighting for my medical treatment for over 3 years. Lost my job. Because they keep denying my treatment. Needing to see their doctor. Spent 3 and a half years fighting to get better. Now they finally doing something.
You should look both ways when crossing the street, the end.
I don't think you knew how to live in this country, and how to get the things you need. It's not NJ's fault, you were careless and didn't know what to do. I'm sorry for what happened to you, but be careful. I'm sure the vehicle that hit you was visible before it did, right? Why did you not see it? Don't blame the state you're in when you have an accident, just be careful, look both ways, and cross legally, we all know how to cross a street here..

Bloom Where you are!! I grew up in Bergen County and I had the best childhood ever!! I would never Leave NJ. I absolutely love it here!! In fact any friends of ours that have moved to other places where sure to move back within a couple of years because they missed NJ. I brought my children up to be a proud Newjersians, you know "Jersey Proud". It is the most mentioned, filmed state of any state in the Hollywood movies, the Jersey Housewives is the most popular of all of franchise. This women in the video, which I did not even look at, just looks like she has a very bad attitude towards NJ so I wanted to leave this comment to counteract all of hatred towards our wonderful state, we have everything here, dining, the shopping capitol of the US, parks, urban or suburbia bliss, big movie theatres and let's not forget the boardwalks, casinos and the beaches.
Don’t get me wrong…I love living here. I just like to show the good and bad sides of things. No place is perfect!

Very hard to believe that u had a good childhood in NJ, the place is a garbage state and it has the highest exodus of people in the country. Expand your horizons, South Florida makes NJ look like a waste dump.All I see in Florida is New Jersey license plates even in the summer. The smart ones have already left NJ's tax burden behind but those that stay are in for the taxation of their lives.

Montclair is a GREAT town. It's pretty expensive as far as rent or purchasing a home there. It became really popular during covid when people from Manhattan started moving there.
Born and raised in Newark,NJ i am a nurse and had to drive in treacherous blizzards and storms to get to work now its hurricanes in Florida go figure

NJ is a huge state, Jackie is mostly describing the eastern parts of Bergen, Hudson, Essex, and Union counties. Just look at google map of NJ, it's mostly green except for those very congested areas closer to New York City.
Taxes are higher but the cost of living is the same as FL at this point!

Highest property taxes in the country and among the highest in car insurance. Housing is cheaper than California, but the tolls, taxes and property taxes will drain your pay check. South Jersey is cheaper than North Jersey, but still not cheap.

I’m Pennsylvania born and raised and believed everything I heard. Most of it is baloney. I love New Jersey because it has beautiful beaches, The Northern part of the state is rural and in some places very rural. NJ has a huge variety of wildlife including the largest population of bears per area in the country. There’s tons of rails to trails here for walking, exploring, hiking, running, biking, etc. you go South you got hurricanes and floods. Go Midwest and good luck with the hundreds of tornadoes every year. The west has drought and wildfires. If you love the city life but don’t want the pollution, live in NJ and drive an hour or two to enjoy NYC with its art museums, broadway, restaurants, etc. Yes, NJ has high taxes. It also has the highest wages per profession. NJ is centrally located to either travel to New England or the nations capital. Cheers!
Lived in NJ my entire life, and went to college here as well. I agree. Not perfect but have been to most parts of the country, and they all have their problems. Our new tagline should be : "NJ, not so bad after all!"
Not true. Wages in health care like nursing are lower. Doubled my salary by moving to Texas and there was no state income tax, whereas NJ has multiple tiered income tax. Property taxes are extreme in NJ. Prices of everything are inflated there also.

@@georgehays4900 With much respect maybe it’s true for you personally, but checking Stats on Nursing homes jobs Texas ranks 34 out of 50. Yes, my taxes are high, but wages are much higher in general in NJ too, looking at national rankings. I hope you enjoy extreme hot weather and occasional tornadoes. Pray your utility bills don’t suddenly skyrocket as when the Texas utility grid collapsed in 2021. I don’t mind paying higher taxes to higher quality public education. NJ is ranked 6th compared to Texas #41. My daughter successfully transitioned to a very high quality university after going to a high caliber public HS. Is now pursuing a high pay career in NYC. New Jersey has tons of rails to trails and close by state parks. It has the shore points which are unique on the EC. I hope you find success and happiness wherever you are!
The beach i go to is down the road from seaside heights. Island state beach. It only costs $6 a car. It doesn't matter how many people are piled in ths car, its still $6 bucks. Alot of the times its free. It was free after covid and last summer when i went ot was also free. I enjoy being able to drive 40 mins to enjoy a beach day. I love my expensive state.

I had to brace myself for this video because I’m stuck here 😂😂😂 I’ve lived here in New Jersey my whole life, and I’m professionally licensed here, so 🤷♀️ I’m here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future until retirement when I will likely relocate to a place that has a lower cost of living. I love New Jersey, it’s my home. (I’m actually comforted by rude people 😂, feels unnatural to be around polite people when I travel out of state) But you’re 100% correct about all these downsides. New Jersey is not for the faint of heart.

I don’t have to pump gas in Jersey. Traffic is everywhere unless you live in the middles of Iowa. Rude people? Only if you act like a jerk. You can get whatever you want here. Yea it costs more but it’s here. Otherwise yea it sucks.
I’m from Colorado, during the Jersey Shore TV 📺 show, EVERYONE who looked like they were from that show flocked to Colorado Springs and Monument like birds 🦅. We just made fun of them behind their backs.

Agreed! Haven’t had a real good snow storm in a couple of years too at that.! I’ll take being cold compared to hurricanes/tornados! I have a Xbox friend who lived in Alabama and would shit talk the NE because it’s cold and too many people and normal southern jealousy for the north as per usual, but the tornadoes that ripped through the south last weekend unfortunately claimed his life and a few others in his trailer park. But it just goes to show that living up here is still and always will be the best option. It’s also been a warm winter too.

I'm 74 and live in NEWARK. A 10 minute walk takes me to Penn Station. From there a train to Pt. Pleasant, no problems with traffic!😂 I stopped driving a year ago. I had enough Saturday mornings on the Parkway sitting in traffic ! Take a train and relax!😂😂😅

Well this is the first video I've seen of your's. Before I even watched I knew what it was going to be. You live in Bergen county,of course it sucks. Every single reason you gave were all North Jersey problems. Yes I deal with all of these ,when I go to North Jersey. I don't pay to go to my beach. South Jerseys doesn't have all these problems. Except maybe property tax, but I don't pay those so I don't know. But I'm glad you are telling people not to live here. I am fine with the South Jersey staying just the way it is.
South Jersey is awesome. We go to Cape May every summer but the beach isn’t free there. Tell me where there are free beaches. I’m tired of paying to use them😂

North Jersey , Chesper a lot cheaper than North Jersey . houses arw lot chesper too.

Not all of NJ is mean. South Jersey residents tend to be a little nicer. People in Wildwood, Stone Harbour , Cape May, have very nice and generous residents. If you're going to move into New Jersey, I recommend you don't move into any overpopulated areas in the North Jersey area. I can agree with the traffic though
Lived in Bergen my whole life. Crowded, expensive, and yes, rude people. Retired to cape May. Spacious, more affordable and people have been pleasant. I have to constantly remind myself to slow down and be patient; I’m not in North jersey anymore.

Didn’t even shovel once this year. Morris county NJ. I did move to FL once came back 9 months later and ain’t looking to leave anytime soon. Is it pricey? Yes but where isn’t it pricey nowadays? Tornado valley? I’m good we get paid more so we pay more, just a way of life.
Most of the bad points mainly are true about northeast NJ. It's my belief that NJ's rudeness reputation mainly comes from the northeast NY bedroom area. Northwest Jersey and South Jersey, with the exception of a few towns/cities are generally pretty nice. Just don't have a job where you have to commute to the northeast or live near a superfund site.
