    This was likely the most stressful thing I have done all week! I haven't sewn in years mostly because my sewing machine needed maintenance. I thankfully had it done in January. Your video was so helpful to ensure I did everything correctly. My mask turned out PERFECT! Thank you for the A+ job on the video and the free pattern!

    Love that you made such a simple pattern for first time sewers. I've been using more complicated ones with wire for noses, pad pockets, etc etc... But my sisters were intimidated- yours is wonderful and will now be the one I refer all my beginners to, I don't have the knack for creating patterns that others can use, lol. The best pattern I have tried so far. I'm teaching three of my "grand" girls to sew, all ages 8, and having the video tutorial gives them instruction for sewing at home. I am a "four-time"survivor so won't be venturing out for quite some time, so this pattern has enabled us to communicate by phone, watching the video together, pausing it to create a step. Invaluable sewing and "life lessons with Nana" while staying in place. My job as a Nana is to teach and guide the moral compass, encourage creativity, and sewing is a perfect way to teach many skill sets (math, knowing how things go together, why we do some steps before the other, measure twice and cut once, etc. My heart is full Thanks you for the great video. My Gram not only taught me the basics as a child, but to tailor, darn, knit and tat. I have used these skills all my life!!!

      Hay, I just watched another video put out by a hospital of a (more complicated "Olson" mask) pattern that has a pocket for a filter. I like this pattern better. On this pattern, you could easily just leave a 2 inch space in the bottom seam and slide filters inside. The hospital/Olson video said that you can buy HEPA fabric to make insert-able filters. She said the hospital uses the fabric, but you could also cut up HEPA vacuum bags to insert. Fabric sounds more flexible/better.

    • @mrsbenn1
      @mrsbenn1 Před 4 lety +1

      @@StephenMattison66: Re the Olson Mask. It is very similar in design and can be made without a filter pocket. Also for a mask to be effective *it should fit snug against the face and extend below the chin*. For the former, you can add a wire (many are using craft chenille stems (pipe cleaners)in the bridge of the nose area, plus by tweaking 'this' pattern rather than sewing the ear loops in you can create a fabric channel that the elastic can slip through and be adjusted and/or being worn double strung. All said; this pattern IMHO is easier to sew (ideal for the novice) and one of the better designed and offers easy maintenance. i.e.: Laundering and pressing. EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!
      Footonote: I have tried several patterns and though I haven't tried this one, I find on the average most are too short so have been adding at least 3/4" to the bottom of them so that is something you may wish to consider.
