I'm proud that I was using this device for long. An amazing smartphone. The best combination!
I added the Google services and tried some unofficial roms, but it needed more memory to use it more longer
It's pity that it was stoped and the X2 was not available everywhere.
I think it was a revolt 😁 from Nokians that known the future is for Android devices, and with the success, Microsoft stopped the experience to don't compete wp

@@silentreader77 yes and the biggest problem is that before the 10 version, WP was incomplete or bad designed (keyboard, multitasking, copy paste...). Yes the tiles was good but not the most important ... And of course less apps... But with the Os of the project X was perfect : well designed, unlimited apps, smooth... but they killed it 😖

This brought back memories as Nokia XL was my first Android device (or smartphone for that matter). It had it quirks and challenges including no Google services and a weird issue where the contacts disappeared if the phone was restarted/powered off. Still it had a surprisingly good camera (although a bit slow) and in general was a solid device despite the issues.

Consumers just want a phone that works and a slate phone with Android or iOS does 99% everything they need a phone to do.
In the last few years, LG tried a "winged" screen phone, Microsoft tried a double screen phone, Blackberry tried a slate phone with physical keyboard, and some Chinese brands tried wrap around display phones... but all failed.
Even Apple trying something barely radical, a smaller iPhone Mini, also failed.
The only different form factor that has been successful these days are the bending display phones.

    • @kun490
      @kun490 Před rokem

See the thing is back in those days our main purpose for using a phone was very simple.
      1. Should have call & sms
      2. Should play music & videos, offline transferred from pc.
      3. Good camera
      4. Design
Those were the only things most people cared about. Facebook was a thing back then but mostly used through browser or on pc.
These days things have changed, we need multiple apps and no dares dares to try new OS. They'd rather only put some skin on top of Android as it is open source.
I don't think things will change any time soon. Unless a new OS emerges in the form of eyewear or something. Till then Android and iOS will be the only ones.

Back in the day, the story of Nokia was rather complicated and uncertain, since 2010 Nokia still refused to use Android and still wanted to fight with it. In 2014 was pretty much late in the game and all other phones had already lost competition against Apple and Google. They basically tried every possible way to catch up without jumping with Android from Google, while Samsung doesn't go too far with any of companies and tried out all markets (including Windows), cut off their own Bada and later go with full Android (wise choice). Nokia adopted a lot of similarities from Windows in all of OSes they have on hands and try to be a 'unique' phone but still failed. My mother was loyal with Nokia at the time and she bought this phone. It's not as good as I thought but it doesn't last so long in software longevity and I eventually upgraded it to Android 4.4 with Android 5 skin. It was so durable, by the way, lasted until 2017, 4 years of lifespan.
For now Nokia is just another Android phone (although I hope it's just that since it could help Nokia) plus not a Finland phone anymore. Maybe the uniqueness can be cool but for sure it doesn't help the brand and die out because few people really want it.

That’s one really boils my ( you know what! ). For me personally they do get certain things right, but they are becoming less and less Nokia as time goes on. I mean please name one stand out feature that the Nokia offers that the competition doesn’t at the same price. And the other thing I struggle with in HMDs philosophy is playing the long game. That’s all good and well if you start out with a strong SOC but SND 695 is fairly weak from the get go let alone last a few years. I remember when this came out, and the forums went mental with everyone sepculating that Nokia somehow finally gave up on Windows Phone and was making Android handsets.
Sadly didn't quite work like that - then Nokia completely absorbed into Microsoft, making Windows phones until they got phased out.

I wouldn’t call Nokia X plan b, cause they were low end devices meant to coexist with Lumia.
Either way, the 4 X series devices were really fascinating :)

I wonder why not combine all of Asha, Meltemi and the X project into one? It's interesting but rather aimless

They had to start somewhere right? :) Maybe the roadmap would eventually lead to more expensive versions with more powerful hardware. But imo it also showed they were starting to lose faith in Microsoft

i had used nokia x green
and the nokia x2ds glossy white 💘💘💘💘
    x was decent but,
    the x2ds was something else
a pure beast with peak beauty 🔥🔥🔥🔥, deadly combination... still the best Android i have ever used. which was a pure beast after i had installed play Store and play service on it by custom dos method after 1 month of purchase and and by that it gets 95% of all apk's support and it become only nokia phone with pure google Android experience and have played 150+ aaa Android games on that device, included all Gameloft, ea and others.. and that monster served me extremely well till 2021
x2ds was faar better phone than my current redmi 9 prime

I was 13 when this phone launched. My initial reaction was "cool, Nokia is finally joining the android train", but after seeing the specs, it changed to "I think it's too little, too late". Now, if Nokia had launched a flagship with android, maybe they could have saved themselves but their deal with Microsoft may have prevented them from doing so. Still, the software on that thing would have been a dream

I have a Nokia x2 , yup the better version of Nokia XL, yes it's android yet I managed to have it rooted and updated in 2014 to Android M, it works fine social media and can play basic games smoothly like Jetpack Joyride, Creo Game (pokemon rip off) stuff like that yet what I like is the simplicity and the fact it works fast on when connected to a Windows PC (of course) with some exclusive features which android does not have that time (I will not go through that now) and the Camera was really Good at that time competitive enough for phones 2x it's price. Used it for 3 years before it got stolen. Yet I only bought it for 3000php, convert it yourself. Phones were really fun that time. No case.

    Gonna leave a question:
Is it still possible to use the internet on a Nokia E72 in 2023 and beyond? Does the internet still work? And can the E72 be updated?
I'm interested in the device at the moment.

Ah yes, the Frankenstein phone. I remember seeing ads for this phone in the wild yet I've never seen a single Lumia ad back then. They really tried to push it, probably as leverage with Microsoft as well. To this day I wish they bought HTC instead.

I bought the smaller Nokia X2 in 2015 in orange shade. The software was surely an irk, especially that pale, useless app store! I dropped the device in swimming pool after two months and was secretly happy I finally had the reason to get rid of it.
