  • Gas up in the resort town of Sunriver and get ready to enter an area of Central Oregon that hosts outdoor recreationalists of all kinds. Keep the speed down and watch for walkers and cyclists who could be crossing the roads on singletrack trails in the vicinity. The next section of the ORBDR hopscotches between dirt and tarmac via Cascade Lakes Highway and Skyliners Drive. Soon afterward, expect steady climbs into an area where snowpack occasionally lingers into mid-July. If the snow is gone, this segment is a real treat with fun, flowy roads and includes a short side trip option to Three Creek Lake, which has a small store with limited supplies.
The track then descends again into an area with private timber lands (heed all signs). An optional more difficult track spirals to the top of Three Creek Butte on a steep loose track. After the butte, the route descends for another 13 miles to the vibrant western-themed town of Sisters, named for the Three Sisters volcanoes which are visible from portions of the road.

    About Backcountry Discovery Routes:
Backcountry Discovery Routes® (BDR®) is a non-profit organization that creates off-highway routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel. We have introduced a new route with free GPS tracks for the community every year since 2010.
Routes can be downloaded from our website at www.ridebdr.com
Our work includes rider education, safety campaigns and promoting responsible travel for motorcyclists traveling in the backcountry.
Our volunteer-powered organization works with agencies and land managers to keep trails and remote roads open for motorcycling.
Each route generates new tourism that delivers sustainable economic relief to less-advantaged rural communities. This creates local stakeholders who will help fight to keep access for dual-sport and adventure motorcycles in these incredible backcountry areas.
