Sir. Is SpO2 affected by skin pigmentation ?? Like in a patient with vitiligo, SpO2 reading that is shown in Pulse Oximeter, is reliable or not ?? I have seen a vitiligo patient suffering from pneumonitis. His SpO2 was constantly 40-45%, but clinically he was not that breathless or having chest pain or any other signs of hypoxia or cyanosis. Even aftet puttin him on NRBM, @3L/min, his SpO2 remained same. So in patients of vitiligo or hypopigmentation, does the pulse oximeter show a false reading ?
