Jörg Demus, イエルク・デムス
(1928年12月2日 ~2019年4月16日)
オーストリアの著名なピアニスト。
バドゥラ・スコダ、フリードリッヒ・グルダと共に、ウィーン三羽烏と言われた。
モダン楽器と古楽器の両方を演奏をし、デュオではバドゥラ・スコダとの活動でも知られた。
ベートーヴェンのピアノ・ソナタの解釈についての共著も出している（Die Klaviersonaten von Ludwig van Beethoven. Brockhaus、1970年）。
Jörg Demus (December 2, 1928 - April 16, 2019)
A famous Austrian pianist.
He was known as one of the triumvirate of Vienna =Vienna Troika
along with Badura- Skoda and Friedrich Gulda.
He played both modern and period instruments, and was known for his work with Badura-Skoda in a duo.
He also co-authored an interpretation of Beethoven's piano sonatas (Die Klaviersonaten von Ludwig van Beethoven, Brockhaus, 1970).
1939年 (11歳) ウィーン音楽アカデミーに入学、ピアノ以外に、指揮、作曲も学んだ。
1942年(14歳) 楽友協会で演奏しデビューする。
1945年 (17歳) 卒業した後もパリ、ザルツブルク音楽院のマスタークラスで研鑽を積む。
イヴ・ナット、ヴァルター・ギーゼキング、ヴィルヘルム・ケンプ、アルトゥーロ・ベネデッティ・ミケランジェリ、エトヴィン・フィッシャーの教えを受けたことでも知られる。
In 1939 (age 11), he entered the Vienna Music Academy, where he studied conducting and composition in addition to piano.
In 1942 (age 14), he made his debut performing at the Musikverein.
After graduating in 1945 (age 17), he continued to study at master classes at the Paris and Salzburg Conservatories.
He is also known for having studied under Yves Nat, Walter Gieseking, Wilhelm Kempff, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, and Edwin Fischer.
1953年(25歳)ウィーンで本格的な活動を開始。
1956年(26歳)ブゾーニ国際コンクールで優勝。
また室内楽や歌手の伴奏者も務め、エリーザベト・シュヴァルツコップやディートリヒ・フィッシャー＝ディースカウ、ヨーゼフ・スークらのパートナーとして知られた。
ヨーロッパ、アメリカ、オーストラリア、アジアへも頻繁にツアーを行い、日本へも毎年来日していた。
2011年春 (82歳) 東日本大震災後に、多くの海外アーティストが日本でのコンサートを中止、延期する中での来日コンサートでは話題になった。
2019年4月16日 (90歳)ウィーンにて死去。
In 1953 (age 25), he began his full-fledged career in Vienna.
In 1956 (age 26), he won the Busoni International Competition.
He also worked as a chamber musician and singer accompanist, and was known as a partner of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and Josef Suk.
He frequently toured Europe, America, Australia, and Asia, and visited Japan every year.
In the spring of 2011 (age 82), after the Great East Japan Earthquake, he became a hot topic for his concerts in Japan, when many overseas artists canceled or postponed their concerts in Japan.
He passed away in Vienna on April 16, 2019 (age 90).
☆個人的なデームス先生との思い出より☆
1993年5月「サローネ・クリストフォリ」での、フォルテピアノでの「イエルク・デームス:シューベルトのソナタの夕べ」…を聴きに行った事があります。
数台の楽器を使用してのコンサートで、
普段接する機会のない、「フォルテピアノ」特有の素朴な響きで奏でられたシューベルトの音楽世界を堪能。作曲された当時に想いを馳せました。(この時、デムス先生は65歳！だったのですね…)
☆My personal memories of Professor Demus☆
In May 1993, I went to listen to " Jörg Demus : An Evening of Schubert Sonatas" on the fortepiano at the Salone Cristofori.
It was a concert using several instruments, and I was able to enjoy the musical world of Schubert, played with the simple sound unique to the fortepiano, which I don't usually have the opportunity to experience. It made me think back to the time when the pieces were composed. (Professor Demus was 65 years old at that time!)
2017年11月
「サローネ・フォンタナ」(→クリストフォリから改名された同じサロン)にて、
初めてで最後となった、プライベートレッスンを受けました。
受講曲はベートーヴェンのop.110のソナタ。
この時デームス先生は、88歳でしたが、
とてもパワフルで、度々、「Nein!」(違う！)と大きな声で怒られたり、先生ならではの指使いのこだわり等、緊張感の中の厳しいレッスンとなったのですが、弾いていくうちに、曲の中に、ベートーヴェンが見えてきた感覚を覚えた事を懐かしく思い出します。

I had my first and last private lesson at "Salone Fontana" (the same salon that was renamed from Cristofori).
The piece I learned was Beethoven's op.110 sonata.
Professor Demus was 88 years old at the time, but he was very powerful and often scolded me loudly, saying "Nein!" (That's wrong!). It was a tense and strict lesson with his unique attention to fingering, but I fondly recall feeling like I could see Beethoven in the piece as I played.
