- A very short notice trip from earlier in December, Romo called me one day and suggested we take a trip up to the salmon river in NY to fish for Steelhead the following day.. We left at midnight and got up there early morning, visiting the tackle shop and then meeting up with Elias who was already up there. We fished all day, 2 days in a row, and this is how it went.
The great lakes and their Tributaries are cold but if you are seeking decent/challenging fishing opportunities in the winter, you might consider taking a trip to one of the many tributaries to fish for these beautiful fish. It may not be easy but there is reward in landing these lake run trout.
Rod I used was an 8'6 Shimano Clarus Noodle Rod
Reel was a shimano saros 2500 amzn.to/2kp3MTZ
I used 6lb fluoro - amzn.to/2nXMItl
egg sacks and pink worms did the damage
Good job bub
Do yourself a favor brings forceps and bring a net helps you get the fish in and out quick . Amazing fish buddy you did well for walking the bank there you were dialed in! ❤it!
Good job man!! No bobber either just an egg sac and some split shots. Does work! Maybe the easiest way to catch them but could get snagged here and there. Like that section! Ssshhh... Lol i have no idea where that is?.. Lol Not a ton of good spots on the salmon river with good fish and few people. But theirs a few. I've had two trips in a row with nothing before, so really good day for you! Fish on!!
Best fishing channel on CZcams. Thanks !
I'm also agree with you.
Love the steelhead footage man! Sometimes you'll get lucky and they'll just be absolutely loaded in one spot like in that pool
Always enjoyable to watch your channel i usually hit the thumbs up before i watch it. Have a good day and stay safe.
Looks like fun. I love Steelhead Fishing. Nice video
Nice chrome!
Catching rainbows on store bought cured eggs is impressive!! Nice video. Brings back memories of when I used to ride my bike down to fish that area as a kid.
You did good. For 1st time...you should be happy you hooked up at all. Most people 1st time won't even catch one. Its always slow...
nice fish'n , i enjoyed the video
Yall were right up my neck o the woods. Looked like a lot of fun.
Love the style of video you make, its informative for what you're doing but enjoyable as well. The narration you do is good too
Great vid. All those New York Rivers are fun to fish. The stocking program is crazy.
Awesome how we all go from the ocean to the stream. Wherever the fish are!!
Heading up there this weekend. High temp of 10 on Friday! Yewwwwww
Lol the Leo pronunciation of rainbow trout! I fished for steelhead my first time this year too, only had fished small creeks for smaller stocked/wild trout beforehand. Techniques seemed very similar but just like you said, MANY drifts and not a ton of bites. Super fun fish to target! Pink worm was clutch for me too, I wacky rigged it on a trout magnet head.
Nice fishing. Love trout
The first spot you stopped at was the school house then the spot where you buddy lost the tank is the wires and spot you where crushing them is called fraisers
Man I watch every single one of your videos. Awesome stuff!!! Next time you go to Florida stop by here in North East Georgia and let's catch some of these fresh water striper. I live on lake hartwell. Look up some info on this lake. Huge lake with some awesome fishing.
Wait, wtf happened at 17:33?
The fish he caught got free and the hook snagged a dead one.
Love salmon fishing, I'm more than due to get up to superior in Duluth MN. Love your vids.
Dope stuff can’t wait to get up there myself!
Definitely a good spot to fish, down stream from there is great too
Dude that spot is a textbook salmon/trout spot; structure, a point and a current seem.
That tripped me out when you lost that fish and snagged the dead one
Liam Duell I was like wtf happened it started decomposing immediately?
No way that was the same fish wtf
It wasnt, the hook just managed to pop out and snag onto a dead fish
I came to the comments to figure out what the hell happened there. I was so confused. Thanks for pointing that out.
But loved the video guys had a ball salmon river is one of the toughest rivers to fish, deffenitly one of my fab vidz I'll run in two u guys one of this a years
We called all the little ones smolts, even though that was probably more of a salmon term. Like anything else once you get a system down you don't lose many fish. We always used eagle claw wide bend hooks, I can not tell you why, but they worked best by far. I've had 16 for 16 days, don't get me wrong I've had days I could not buy a smolt. Love the steelies. Lots of different baits to try. I got lazy as I got experienced and would just bring a tub of waxies. Havn't tangled in years with them but great memories. BTW you are an outstanding fisherman.
Loving these videos keep it up
17:17 Magic show while fishing
Como se llama ese lugar.
Me gustaria ir de pesca
You should try a drift boat trip. You get to cover a lot of water and have an experienced guide to tell you where to fish. My dad does it and I’m working on becoming a guide. Also you should try center pinning it’s super fun and challenging.
We go up every year for steelhead. Good times up there. Even better on a fly rod.
Ay I’m in western MA/pioneer valley you should come down this spring and get some big carp and smallies my dad met you out on the vineyard he and I are big fans
Yeah Chris, that's not a bad day in steelhead fishing. The fish look small this year. That last one you got is usually the average size. Those small ones Elias was talking about were probably a release from the hatchery above the first fly zone. I ran into those one yer in the fly zone. The hatchery in Altmar is a cool place to visit while you are up there. you can see how the returning fish are corralled to go into the hatchery and processed. Also alot of history about the fishery
1733 thats a sign you might want to real in quicker
Is it Bad that I know what holes he's fishing based off the trees on the opposite shore
Sweet videos man hell yeah
The boys should get back together for a fishing trip.
💪💪💪💪
Keep up the dope vids!💯💪👊LET'S GO!!!
I have never fished for steelhead before but it sure does look interesting.
From what i can gather, These are just bigger and tougher rainbow trouts.
In my stocked stream you can catch anything from 1-5LB rainbows and i have and they're just simply beautiful fish.
For a first time steelhead angler you did awesome and i hope to see you keep at it.
Tight lines buddy!
thanks yea I too am used to the stocked trout but ours are almost all 10"-13". I am pretty fascinated with these bigger lake run trout, I will definitely be back at some point
Well done buddy
One second it was alive the next it was dead lol!
Really nice to see someone drift fishing and not snagging
dude is flossing fish...
that"s snagging with style up in them parts.
Bro u should be extremely happy with four fish up in bc we r lucky to get one fish a outing
Good video. Ever considered swinging streamers on a dropper loop with split shot on the bottom?
Low light conditions call for chartreuse green eggs or flies also, streamers are a good change up
I will remember that.. I hope to get back up there (or better yet a different trib) at some point.
Great video !! I prefer the shore fishing videos
Wow thanks man share this wow video
Dude, I love your shit. But every fish you land I just keep saying out loud to my phone "why doesn't he just get a fucking net?!?!" "Some foreceps maybe?" Lol... Good stuff Sea$. Just think how cool you would look with a net hanging from your belt and, like, a tan vest with lots of pockets.
I'm with you on that one...guess it takes a couple trips to realize that haha
man i wanna fish with you and elias so bad... meet up striper fishing sometime maybe? I caught one steelhead there after 2 days of nothing and it was like 15 inches... talk about a beat trip... but the salmon fishing there is absolutely awesome anyways nice vid bro
Nice video !
Elías fishing from shore wow haha nice video
Sea Money son!! Getting it done as always. Hey man can you make a wader/boot combo recommendation or even a short video on what you look for? Being in Florida I dont have to use them much but this year is going to be a lot colder than normal. I fish the surf a lot for red drum and pompano in the winter. Any help would be awesome. Keep it up man. Love the content.
just ordered a rod from all season keep in touch !!!
nice catch was looking for trying out those fish in Cali..
Talking about tough day, you haven't seen tough day up there yet. You actually did very well. I've been going up there for 10 years and if your catching 1 or 2 fish a day your doing good. Last time I went up there I got skunked. Three days fishing and nothing. First time that's happened. Then there are times when I go up i catch them all in one day and none the rest of the days. I
I've learn you have to diversify your fishing methods and not just rely one the salmon river. If the salmon river is too high or too low or has too much fishing pressure you have to try other tribs or you'll get skunked more often then not.
You seem like a good guy, may want some hemostats and a net, it will be nicer on the fish! Keep kicking butt!
This is literally steelhead fishing paradise compared to where I fish
These are Great Lakes steelhead. No steelhead paradise
40 min from me syracuse ny wish i knew would love to fish with u
Sweet video chris.. thanks for sharing.. I definitely am no steelhead master but I don't think steelhead rise (feed on the surface) at this stage in thete life.. regular bows do though. N certainly browns as well.. I'm sure there in that stretch u were in.. could be completely wrong... frickin awesome though bro...thumbs up
how did they taste?
That was awesome to watch!!! Are them steel head trout good eating? I really enjoyed this video!!!
Really awesome video..
They’re probably the best tasting fish out there
Pretty dam cool man
I love Pulaski!
i saw u on 13 in dover bro
Is it just a coincidence that there are Nespresso ads on a video with Elias in it...
That's somewhat disturbing.
Good times dude
EliasVFishing as
When the fall striper fishing is beat you just gotta broaden your horizons, which is exactly what you’ve been doing this year!
Should of tried the little creeks around there when the river not doing to good trout Brook little sandy and Orwell are good
I was you I would clear out some sticks and stuff all in that area
im here for the trout
Nice video man gotta rip the Gill and bleed em out if your going to keep them.
Yes really awesome video
Trap Idea you should see our steelhead in WA state they get 15lbs
First time I see Elias fishing on foot aka land aka not on kayak
I'm not First time,,he all time make very good video.
19:30 is a skippy. One year steelie.
We're you in town? Or by school house in Altman
Right by my house , badd ass man.
Your handling of fish is really rough
Hey man. Love the videos but the quality on this one was a bit different, were you using a diff camera? The aspect ratio is super off on my end.
same camera, I messed with the settings on the gopro, I was filming in "super view", no good huh? My past few vids have been filmed on this setting, do you notice it in those vids too?
Sea-Money Fishing Nope! I just reopened this vid and it looks normal. Maybe because I initially opened the vid 20sec after you posted it😂 Looks great now🤷♂️
Sea-Money Fishing I like superview way more
That's actually a very good day been up there and did not catch a fish lol
Lisa Mas I spent 3 days last November there, not a damn thing and only saw one guy hook up. The tidewater inn was sweet though.
just curious why you never stayed in the river , instead of doing that maniac loop all day , maybe cold feet
If you land multiple steelhead in one day you are doing well!!
hey man your not far from me if you was at salmon river
Nice work Chris 👍 I was always hesitant going up there with the crazy stories from my friends. Didn’t look bad at all. Off the beaten path?
we were right on the beaten path haha... it was fairly crowded but that one spot I caught all my fish from, nobody seemed to fish. the bigger pools all had 5-10 people fishing them
Thanks for sharing your vids, can you tell me who makes the egg sacks you were using?
that looks exactly like a spring salmon
NO PEOPLE HERE NICE PEACEFUL .AWESOME TO YA I BIN THERE ONE TIME 2003 ..IS THAT A MILE DOWN FROM FLY FISHERMEN SPOT...I FISH ROCKY RIVE CATCH GOOD NUMBER BUT DONT FIGHT LIKE THERE THEY FIGHT HARD STRONG
that last fish you caught i believe was a trout ... its too light on top to be a steelhead
So Salmon eat their own eggs ?
The rod..."noodle rod"? Do you mean light-fast action(6-12#)? I'm looking to pick one up and I'd like your impressions:...also, 1 piece or 2 piece blank, could I use it for fall stripers without breaking it in half?
only keep one that sucks dude here In Washington state we can keep 4 a day
What weight is the rod? light, medium? What do you recommend?
Cast the egg sac... Hook the Steelie...pass the rod around the tree. .jump in the river. Land the fish.....Repeat. yeah!!!!
The dead fish at 17:30 is actually a different fish
Was your weight bouncing on the bottom like for salmon or lighter weight is needed?
Steelhead are good eating
One day muricans will learn to bring a net when fishing. No matter how many rods they bring... Most youtubers seem to not be comfortable with netting at all.
Still love your vids. More of a general rant than about you
❤
Are u using Floral carbon
Good vid but let's be clear. You did NOT have a slow day for that river. And bring a net and forceps next time. Makes landing and releasing much easier.
