- This past weekend we went back to the Dallas card show. Although, this time we brought $50,000 to spend on sports cards in 24 HOURS!! We were able to buy lots of different sports cards like football, basketball, soccer, F1, and more ranging from $75 deals all the way to tons of $1,000+ deal. Every time we come to this show, we never have any trouble buying some cool deals. As I've said many times before, I truly think this is the best card show in the country outside of the National, so it's a must attend anytime we can go. @@rockydelone3042 You are missing an important element, he's buying a ton and in variety. To vendors that's fantastic you can make a little off stuff that may not move as quickly, especially if you don't have a retail location. And in some cases selling half your inventory on the spot. Even if the vendor only makes a little money on the deal he now has the ability to pivot in a big way. And that is huge, after that 10,400 deal he most likely walked around and got his hands on some stuff he is bullish on.

Tbh it would be great if we could clearly see the actual card being bought or being looked at.
I can't imagine spending that kind of $$$ at a sportcard show or anywhere else.
The 1st time you did this, did you have palpitations esp thinking you might lose a lot of it??? You can't always win.

It’s only 50k and I’d you know the market and have a poppin whatnot you can easily get your money back fast and make a good profit.

My entire life of collecting, am still flabbergasted how these new card's are so high in value...so much more than most Hof players from 80s and 90s.. I know wax era, but in general, crazy
Definitely think about that a lot. Lot of $ into guys who may or may not work out. Wild how it works in the present day card market in some cases

Lol we would have bought this stuff regardless. Down market doesn't mean cards stop selling, just people get selective. Still have to have inventory to sell during our 5 weekly whatnot shows plus our shop. Just have to be more selective is all!

Same question - Why not buy high end Jordan / Lebron / Brady RC's or autos / Vintage - wouldn't it hold its value better than say 1000 cards at 300-600 ?
Or just a flipping deal or perhaps inventory for shop - higher end prices you out of the number of people buying?

I respect the business so this is no knock on Ryan. I go to Dallas myself. I don’t see how dealers make money selling to Ryan at 80%.
I get buying stuff at 80%. I mean the deals out there, but less than that is kind of crazy to me
eBay takes 14%. 6% for cash or paypal day of is a great business decision to most, especially in a declining market. Beats selling them on eBay just to have the cancelled because the buyers "Dog bid on their ebay by accident" and by the time it sells its down 20% more. Totally get it, but selling a deal without a headache is a win for many in this market.
@@cardcollector2 very true. I walk around the show and I see how you make money even I find deals where I’m paying 80%-85% of comps, but I just can’t see how the guy selling to me is making any money off of that. Like where is that guy getting his cards . Thats what’s puzzling
It may not always be like this, but the market isn’t hot right now so it stands out more at the moment. Some people have seen their cards drop 20% and want to sell before they drop more. Sometimes people sell in bulk too at 60-70% when spending thousands, so selling @ 80% still leaves some money. But i get your point,
@@cardcollector2 yeah very good point. You don’t have to get 90%-100% to make it work. It’s all a numbers game. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing but respect for what you do. We’re the same age and I’ve been collecting for as long as I can remember . The dealer side has always fascinated me
closer to 60-70% of sticker/comps would be my guess is where he was buying/wanted to be

I’ve introduced them to the hobby, because hobbies are great for them. Some things we do really well on because we got really good deals. Others we will lose $ on. Sometimes the goal isn’t just money, it can be to grow our whatnot channel, make a cool piece of content or to give some cool stuff away. Never bad to make $ but these challenges are meant to be the big $ makers they may seem to be to some who just like to be mad just to be mad (see Rocky’s comment below). Sometimes the goal is a longterm play- we’re playing the longterm game here - build something sustainable to last forever. Appreciate the comment ✌🏽
I just don’t get the amount of haggling when you’re given 50k to spend yes I get you need to pick up as much as you can but I feel like it also takes away from the vendors who price fairly. However, love the videos!
That's like saying because someone is rich they should never negotiate. Our goals are to teach people about different cards and the hobby not just buy anything just because. Slightly different, but appreciate you watching regarldess!

I do still sub and watch this channel though because the guy owns a shop, still has that collector in him with his OSU fandom, and is patient with the kids. 99% of "influencers" are just vultures and shills for the crooks that AIH Sports, Sports Card Radio and others have exposed.
@@rockydelone3042 if he is a crook like Wilson and others then he will lose his shop. Little bit more on the line then Mojo Sports and the other guys. Does sound like WhatNot gave him the money though, which brings up conflict of interest issues but those guys wouldn’t know what that it is because you gotta have some integrity first

Haven't sold any yet but goal is always 15-20%. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
