- Today we will be installing a vessel. I will show you every step! when doing a freestanding tub installation it is important to know how you are planning on doing your plumbing. Freestanding bathtub can add huge value to any home improvement project. And to be honest with you guys it's not that hard to do as a DIY project.

Thank you so much for posting this. This is EXACTLY the video I need to install my tub. I don't like the cheap hose that came with the tub because I've used them under kitchen sinks and eventually they crack and leak. I wanted to see how to replace the hose with PVC, and now I know how 👍
Great job explaining how to install. Had the same flexible p trap you showed. I did what you did. Really impressed
Thank you man. I installed one today and when I saw the P Trap I had doubts about it. But watching your video was really helpful.
A tip for anchorage of soaking tubs. On installs where I have access underneath I like to screw a piece of aluminum angle, perpendicular to the length of the tub, to each pair of steel legs. I then drill a 1/2” hole in it, and put a bolt or length of threaded rod long enough to penetrate the subfloor. Then with a nut and washer underneath I can tighten it to the floor. Two half inch bolts I’ve found are enough to make it rock solid. Of course you have to be willing/able to drill extra holes in the finished floor. I wish some of the manufacturers would add a few extra 1/2” nuts welded in for this purpose. On installs where I can’t access the underside of the finished floor I make “cheats” usually out of treated 2x I put two approximately 6” long pieces, with a groove at the bottom that allows the bottom lip of the tub to slide in, on the floor usually screwed down(I have glued them though). I install these under the side of the tub opposite where someone would be getting in so the tub can’t be tipped when leaning in the edge. Then I put two pieces without a groove opposite these as close to the rim as clearance allows. Leave the drain opening just big enough that the back edge can be slid under the cleats before setting the front edge down. Once the tub is on the floor slide it tight against the unknotched blocks. (I put a liberal bead of silicone on the front lip before pushing it tight to help keep it against the blocks) I find that particularly in homes with children some form of more secure anchorage is critical. I have been to half a dozen calls to repair drains where children climbing in an empty acrylic tub or adults setting on the edge actually tipped it enough to break the drain pipe. Additionally, there are a couple manufacturers who make a “drop in” drain. The drain is roughed in flushing to the floor. It has one or more oring seals that allow a standard brass tailpiece lubricated with silicone seal lube to be slid in from the top. You attach the tailpiece to the tub and with help set tub in place and your done no gluing or tightening. Tile coach on CZcams has a video about it.
I’m not totally understanding but I see the problem. Small town here and plumbers will not install. And I’m installing ina sloped floor shower. Help
Nice work. Cool bathroom.
I like that tile!
Hey misha I am giving you a tip cut half of the pipe off so that it is not hanging connect it through the stud so it is not hanging just what I recommend
All good if you have access to the floor below, which I don't in my 2 story house. I have a finished popcorn ceiling that has faded over time so cutting a hole and repairing it is an expensive option as I would need to do the entire room. I'm going to install a rubber P trap with no ridges.
Thanks you, this is very helpful for me.
Ita actually not so bad. I think i was drunk when i made my first comments. I like that you choose to do without the flex trap. Only thing i could say little more primer help soften up that pipe its a much stronger bond. Did a nice job on them water lines.
nice simple no nonsense explanation.. can you please let me know the model of this bathtub and the size? thanks!
Very few houses if any have a bath plumb going straight into a bloody basement like that. 99. 9 % of us have a bath upstairs which means the pipe has to go through the floor and out the wall! Let's see you do one of those fits.
Needs more then a couple swipes of primer. Primer just dont clean the pipe, it really helps in the process of the chemical weld.
How are you supposed to do the little feet of the tub that you can screw up and down?
I really like how you can hit your head on the tub trap
Starting a tub project next week. Do you recommend some type of silicone around the base to help sturdy the tub?
excellent
Thanks!!!
This little czcams.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
What is that drain assembly you used called? I too have a tub where the p trap is directly below the tub drain and the drain assembly you used is perfect but I can’t seem to find anything like it. Thanks!
It looks like your floor joists are hardy enough, are there weight restrictions for things such as prefab homes? Is there a/lumber dimension that we should be mindful of before installing a tub where once was a shower?
great stuff as usual. Can't believe you're working, making tiktok and youtube videos daily. Do you sleep?
Just hustling :)
Who manufactured that tub? I am currently working on that exact gray accordian type overflow. There are no markings on the tub, and the overflow has split. I am trying to locate the part. It is a rectangular style overflow but is exactly the same for the tie into the foot drain.
I've just bought a very similar bath, how would you do the waste if you couldn't access it from basement underneath, my bathroom is above my kitchen, I don't really want to take ceiling down if I can help it..
Hi Adam, the only other option is to lift the floor in your bathroom to find the waste pipe for you old bath tub and plumb into that.
Gracias maestro
How did you silicone seal the tub to the floor? That looks like you cannot get access in the corner.
I just moved into a house and it has this exact tub. It wobbles pretty bad so my question is can I lift it in order to adjust the feet? I don’t want the connector popping off and creating a new problem
Is there a reason you didn’t had a shutoff valve on the hot and cold supply line? Also should of done a hub x hub connection p trap just in case the tub needs to be replaced or removed.
You can cut the pipe and replace the tub. Easy
Can you share a parts list?
The tub is nice, but it shifting is what I dont like maybe building a platform base or step around it ?
it is light. Thats why i did the drain the way i did. But people who buy these tubs understand what they are getting for the fraction of the cost.
Im here watching this video due to the having that same issue you have brought up. Wonder if there is a way to prevent that? My contractor installed my 59" tub just yesterday..
What brand is the tub? Can you share the link
I have a new tub like this. But whenever I get in or out it seems to make a creaking noise or popping noise?
What do you do if you don't have basement access? My p-trap is already set in between the floor joists have good 8-in hole but the p-trap tube they gave me never get set right. The water won't drain It's like the hose moves or something when I sit down the tub. Would love to glue it but there's no way I could lift up the whole toe tub and get the right fit with wet glue. I've seen some other hoses that are collapsible, but it looks hokey.
I assume you already got it figured out, but I don't have access below my tub, so I'm pulling up sections of subfloor, and will have to reach under the floor/tub to connect the drain pipe.
My home has concrete how much will cost me to put 9be like that in texas
Can you give me advice on plumbing for washer drain out. So my washer is located 8 feet away from the drain out. I have the washer hose in the stand pipe, the flow goes down the stand pipe ground level across 4ft , then it goes up 18 inches and then across about 3 or 4 feet, elbow fitting into drain.
The problem I have is water over flow from stand pipe. I Believe the issues is the direction of the water flow of the pipes causing it to back up. Help
Hey man! I can help best I can. Can you DM me a picture on IG please! I will help
@@WINNI.Designs oh heck yah thanks for your response any advice is great. It’s my moms house, I’ll get the pic and message you on Instagram.
that's only nice if you have the basement to work from. how about a tub on the second floor ?
what keeps tub from moving around besides plumbing?
how big is bath tub?
What if you don’t have basement like on a second floor
What happens if you don’t have a basement and the bath is in an upstairs bathroom?
Bună,merge instalata o baterie free...pe încălzire în pardoseala?
Could you move the trap up between the joist boards?
Yeah, it would be a little more work, but I would keep my plumbing contained within the joists.
Can you tell me the dimensions of the tub in the video?
How do you plumb on a concrete foundation?
How do you secure the tub to the floor so it doesn’t move side to side ??
Silicone
Should have shown how to use the flexible drain pipe in the case that it's not possible to relocate the drain directly below the tub.
Is the tub drain vented?
My plumber said it’s a wet vent
Real screw the next guy installation. If you ever have to remove the tub how exactly are you supposed to reinstall it without opening up dry wall or tile?
Did you not silicone the tub to the floor?
That's driving me nuts too. He shakes it and is like "it's pretty sturdy" even though it wobbles. Have to bed it!
I’m doing this tub and want to “bed” it. How do I do that? My floor is shower so slopes. I have wiggle!
Is this Galassia Eden bathtub?
It called free standing and you make it non by putting straight pipe under instead flixable hose comes with it
6:40 , looks like the trap could have been raised at least 2 inches. Why is that down connector pipe so long? Looks like you are going to hit your head, many times.
So you're using the plumbing to secure into place so it doesn't move? Wouldn't silicone for adhesion and a flexible pipe just in case be a better option. Also, easier to install and line up.
Your right a flexible hose also allows you to replace the drain or fix a leak without opening up drywall
It's a great video, but it seems the bath is kinda poor quality, and also the plastic trap and flexible hose is of low quality...
This video did not show any of the details needed to properly install a free-standing tub’s in-floor drain. Free-standing tubs endure a great deal of force not only up and down as the weight of water and bathers is added to it, but also lateral forces as kids play in the tub and as elderly brace themselves on one side or another as they climb in and out. , not to mention the not so elderly as they brace adjust the tub and so thing in shower rooms.
How is the tub secured to the floor. How did you seal around the tub to keep water from going down the sides and into the space below. Additionally, the subfloor is exposed to any water that makes its way past the seal.
I ask this because our Island Tub Drain has failed twice and these are all the factors that came into play with its failure.
Where’s the vent line
How, as a plumber, can you put a video on the internet with you using channellocks incorrectly?
He probably just wanted to irritate you.
Why leave plumbing 2 feet down out of the ceiling….
The tub was wobbly on the floor , he’s a bit of a sloppy plumber , he use his pliers to open the glue can wrong & his 45 degree bend in subfloor looked out of whack
Who ever installed my tub used that plastic drain and bent it and now my tub won’t drain..
The finish scratches real easy. I wouldn't recommend sitting in the tub with shoes. Makes for good Hollywood, but lousy finishing practice.
You need gloves, my brother-warrior!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤔
Looks like your using “ cleaner” not primer. You must use primer with pvc or the bond will not hold. Primer does not clean the pipe. It creates a chemical reaction with the glue to create a permanent weld. Just using pvc glue without primer will fail over time.
Not true it’s not code no more
DUDE...READ THE DIRECTIONS.....YOU SECURE THE TUB TO THE FLOOR WITH SILICONE OR YOU COULD JUST FOAM AROUND THE DRAIN......JEEZ....
You silicone it so water doesn’t get under it and mold.
No caulking under the tub to secure it better? Smh
Lose the music
you didn't Vent it!!! it will be noisy and slow!!
Some serious handy man shit going on here but ive seen worse
That stone and paint is hideous
Did it even occur to you that people might want to see an installation including the drain flex pipe that came with the tub? you could have spent a minute covering that as well.
