  • 2021 was an eventful year to say the least, especially at West Park. Here are some of the highlights.
    West Park staff begin COVID-19 vaccinations
    January 6, 2021 - The first phase of the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 vaccination program enables staff working in patient-facing roles to receive the vaccine.
    Onsite COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic
    January 12, 2021 - University Health Network (UHN) deployed one of their mobile vaccination teams to the Centre to begin administering a first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to front-line, patient-facing staff.
    Virtual Black History Month events and activities
    February 3, 2021 - West Park launched its celebration of Black History Month with members of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Collaborative (EDIC) encouraging staff to join the festivities and check out the events.
    West Park takes home top prize from Canadian Coalition of Green Health Care
    March 4, 2021 - West Park won the Green Leadership award for the Year of 2019, and received honourable mentions in the Pollution Prevention category and the Green Hospital of the Year category.

    March 4, 2021 - The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) formally recognized Dr. Nicula for her dedication and leadership by presenting her with a CPSO Council Award.
    West Park opens on-site community COVID19 vaccination clinic
    March 27, 2021 - West Park Healthcare Centre was pleased to announce its on-site community COVID19 vaccination clinic in partnership with West Toronto OHT and North West Toronto OHT.
    West Park opens off-site community COVID19 vaccination clinic
    April 19, 2021 - West Park Healthcare Centre was pleased to announce its first community COVID19 vaccination clinic at the Community Place Hub in partnership with the Community Place Hub and the West Toronto OHT.
    Congratulations, Trish! Nursing Hero 2nd Place award
    April 29, 2021 - Hospital News chose West Park RN Trish Mizzau as second-place winner for its Nursing Hero Campaign, an outstanding feat!
    West Park adopts Land Acknowledgement in time for National Indigenous Peoples Day
    June 21, 2021 - West Park adopted a land acknowledgement; (a formal declaration recognizing the lands of the traditional First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit territories).

    June 3, 2021 - Four current and former West Park staff receiving Recognition Awards for their contributions to U of T’s physical therapy curriculum during the 2021 virtual Awards Ceremony.
    The last dose: West Park's onsite vaccine clinic closes
    July 16, 2021 - West Park’s on-site COVID19 vaccination clinic ushered through its last group of vaccine recipients - providing a total of 12,286 vaccinations since the clinic’s start in March.
    August, 2021 was a busy Construction month
    Final Concrete Slab Pour
    West Park reached a significant milestone with the final concrete slab pour for its new hospital.
    Goodbye Phoenix
    We said goodbye to Phoenix (Crane 2), which has helped build the South Inpatient Block of our new hospital.
    Final Beam Signing
    Employees, physicians, patients, and family members joined Premier Ford, Health Minister Christine Elliott, and Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma to celebrate a construction milestone, the Signing of the Final Beam.
    Supporting athletes at the Tokyo Paralympics
    August 17, 2021 - West Park’s Dr. Steven Dilkas was at the Tokyo Paralympic Games as the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) Chief Medical Officer and team physician for the Canadian Senior Men’s and Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Teams.

    October, 2021 Just announced during the 36th Annual Meeting, the recipient of the 2021 Thomas L. Petty Distinguished Pulmonary Scholar Award is Dina Brooks, PhD, MSc, BSc(PT).
    Community Place Hub Vaccination Clinic gives last doses
    October 23, 2021 - The Community Place Hub clinic on Weston Road location, which provided 20,308 vaccinations since April, closed. Combined with the West Park Healthcare Centre clinic which ran March-August, 32,594 vaccinations were given.

    November 17, 2021 - West Park Foundation launched its video series “I Am Not Done” featuring three former inspiring West Park patients.
    West Park renews Stroke Distinction™
    December 2, 2021 - West Park has renewed its Stroke Distinction™ designation, demonstrating the Neurological Rehabilitation service's quality of care and adherence to Accreditation Canada standards and protocols.
    West Park scientist awarded prestigious grant to study virtual rehabilitation
    December 2, 2021 - Dr. Crystal MacKay is awarded a Compassion and AI grant from AMS Healthcare.
    Goodbye Thunderbird
    December 10, 2021 - After 18 months of helping build the Outpatient Block, Thunderbird (Crane 3) left the construction site.
