Toilet, shower, dress, drink lemon water, make coffee, do stretches - while focusing on breathing, do special Qi Gong healing movements, do Qi Gong 18 movements, say affirmations, pack lunch things for work, drive to work. I’m 64 & this has been my routine for at least a year.

I would miss half of my life socializing with my kids and grandkids and friends if I went to bed at 8:30 just so I could set my alarm to be up at 4:00 am. I can’t even wrap my head around this lifestyle. But you guys aren’t retired so maybe you just have such busy lives you have to do this. I’m thankful for slow, simple living and guilt free lazy mornings. I still have all day to exercise and read my Bible and work in my garden.

Lazy is good and needs to be embraced. Don't make it a habit but understand that everyday doesn't have to be wide open at 100mph. Everybody has a different idea of their dream retirement. That being said I'm like Mike. Early riser 4 to about 6, drink some water(because I'm thirsty) now I know why, then catch up on the over night news and today's weather. About 7-8 I start my day. A little coffee talk with the baby then exercise and a walk. I do believe getting off to a good start helps with the rest of the day. I ain't jumped out of bed in decades. For me it's more of a noisy crawl. 🤣 Great video. Thanks. Steve

Great thoughts about setting a routine. People need to set their own, but the concept is gold.
I sleep about midnight to 7-8am and I cannot get up and drink 12oz of water. It is physically impossible as my swallowing muscles are uncoordinated and swallowing more than an ounce or so means I'll be sick and likely lose it or just be miserable. I rinse my mouth and sip a couple of swallows, and that's all my stomach tolerates. 30minutes to an hour later I drink a big glass of water and it is time to go stretch and exercise. I quit eating breakfast "in the morning" about age 14 when I figured out that it was making me sick at least 50% of the time. I used to eat something mid-morning at work, but the last few years I only eat between about noon and 6pm.

I kind of thought one of the rewards/goals of being retired is that we "don't" have to wake up to an alarm anymore. Not yet retired, husband is -- a big pleasure is not having to function around a set time for everything. I get that routines can be helpful, but isn't part of what we worked for all our life is to be able to relax and not be so regimented in retirement life? Probably looks different for everyone. Thanks for your content!

We like to share what we find works for us and what recent research suggests. And yes, we all should live the life we want especially after working for so many years. Being active and moving a lot is still very important. If you can do that without having to schedule it then that’s great. We find having a schedule and getting up early works better for us.

I definitely need lists and plans to be effective, whether its work or home projects. And now that we are getting close to retirement my list is full of things to get the house ready to see - getting rid of stuff, fixing stuff, etc. I personally target 3x a week at the gym and walking my dog every day. But, I keep thinking I need to start either treadmill or bike on the other days. Just haven't gotten myself to do it yet...

I'm curious why you set an alarm if you get up at the same time every day. If you need an alarm maybe you're not sleeping enough.
Otherwise this video really resonates - I want to solidify my morning exercise routine because I don't love exercise but recognise the benefits however I'm still fairly new to not working so still figuring out what works for me 🙂

This is Mark. I set my alarm for 4:00 because I like using this early time to do my routine. It's important to me. But I usually wake before the alarm. I set it just in case. I don't use an alarm on weekends. When I get up on weekends, I do the same routine except I don't go to the gym. But on weekends i'm usually up naturally be 4:00 anyway. Sometimes I can fall back to sleep to 5:00 which is always a treat.
