    Really enjoying using this amp so far. Very impressed with the vintage tones, especially when paired with my Super V. What do you think of the tone of this amp?

      Andy, I have the exact same amp..exchanged speaker for Ruby Celestion and It sounds warmer and rounder - even more vintage. Which channel and what settings do you prefer for best jazz sound? Thanks!

      @@j.rozman7016 interesting. Mine is all stock currently. As I am micd up for gigs, I usually have the attenuator a few notches on. I only use the lead channel for soloing. I don't tend to have the tone or mid bite beyond 2 as I find it gets quite bright. Love the sounds on this channel though. Perfect for that little bit of breakup and it's very dynamic in its response.
      I'm using the rhythm channel for soloing and comping. The EQ varies depending on the room/venue.

    I’ve owned a Tone King MkII for about six years
    …the door entry price is high,
    but once you’re “in”,
    you never want to leave.

      Agreed. I've been really happy with it, totally worth the investment!

    Well, that was fun! It was very informative to hear the different guitars through it. I agree with you about the Super V - very smooth.

    Very nice sound! Close if not spot on to that 50's jazz sound!

    Love your playing, I need more KB in my repertoire. Also, I have had my eye on this amp as well. Great sounds.

      Thanks. I had my eye on it for some time, but the prices went up quite a bit here in the UK. The sale meant I had to get it!

      ... and one of the good things about it is that the price makes a Deluxe Reverb seem cheap and justifiable...

    Congrats I have the same amp in the same colourway. The speaker takes a long time to really break in and the brightness people complain about completely went for me. But that was prob daily playing for 5 months

      The colour is great, isn't it? That's good to know re the speaker.

    I recently picked up a head and cab of the Imperial Mark II, couldn't be happier.

      @jazzguitarwithandy  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I'd like to have tried that had it been an option. Is it a matching Toneking cab that you went for?

    • @clovergrass9439
      @clovergrass9439 Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, matching head and cab in brown and tan. I've been trending towards cabs and heads the past few years as opposed to combos. I like the idea of each having a seperate function working together.@@jazzguitarwithandy

    I've had one of these for around five years. Its fantastic if you want two switchable channels with tweed and blackface sounds and you want some power tube overdrive. The attenuator makes that do-able at rehearsal/giggable volumes. I think the stock speaker in that cabinet is pretty sweet too - I've tried other heads through it and they sound great. I'd say the main con (other than the price) is the reverb, which is untamed - even on 1 it sounds like Dick Dale. But the tremolo is great; a lush sound for chordal accompaniment for a singer. Probably not an amp of choice if you only play straight ahead jazz but its very versatile, so works great if you are heading into anything tinged with Americana (Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Ry Cooder etc) or jump blues (Tiny Grimes, Duke Robillard etc) and of course lots of jazzers use a deluxe reverb.
    Andy - what settings are you using? I've found the tone controls take a bit of getting used to.

      Nice to hear a long term review of it. I've had it for 6 months now and I'm thoroughly pleased with the amp. I tend to stick to the rhythm for comping and lead for lead! I find I have to have the tone and bite down to virtually nothing, as otherwise it's a bit bright. I think I'm probably still breaking in the speaker at the moment though. One good thing I did do is buy a custom cover from Studio Slips for transportation.

    Great demo !!! Had one for a few years to play jazz and loved it. The weight is pretty low for a tube amp. It was excellent for small gigs. It is a bit too loud to play at home with a good sound, even though there is the nice Ironman attenuator. I sold it and went digital to play at home. What is your preferred Fender amp for Jazz ?

    • @jazzguitarwithandy
      @jazzguitarwithandy  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks. The weight isn't too bad for the size. What are you using instead these days? My favourite Fender is probably the Deluxe and then the Princeton.

    • @Tech1000
      @Tech1000 Před 4 měsíci

      @@jazzguitarwithandy At home the setup is : pedals > HX stomp > stereo power amp > 2 cabs. For a gig : DV Mark Little Jazz for a light setup or a 1x12'' cabinet + DV Mark micro 50 (or HX stomp&Power Amp or Katana Head Mark II). The Tone King was of course better, but not by a huge margin (to try to get a "darkish" clean jazz sound). Princeton seems to be the perfect tube amp. Would love to test one. The various iterations are a bit confusing though.

    To play at home with atenuator is good or is still to loud?
