One of the best ways to understand the professional auto detailing business is to see how other professional detailers approach their car detailing process! That's why I called a friend of mine local to the Nashville Tennessee area who specializes in mobile detailing, and specifically basic interior and exterior services.
I many ways, Angel's Mobile Detailing has absolutely taken over the interior/exterior mobile auto detailing market in Nashville, and that's why I wanted to see what he could do!
Here's how the video goes:
1. I decided I wanted the most basic interior and exterior mobile auto detailing package that he offers... nothing fancy. This particular type of detail cost $80 so it is extremely reasonable for most people.
2. We first look at his process. What mobile detailing systems does he use? Interior or exterior first? How does he streamline the detailing process to become as efficient as possible?
3. We also look at the products and tools he is using, and I talk about why I do or don't like them!
4. You will also see how an $80 detail like this can be done in 1 hour AND with basically a handful of tools and products! You don't need the fanciest detailing equipment or the best detailing tools in order to do this, and run this kind of business! And at $80/hour... it's not half bad.
Follow along as we take a look into another detailer's business, and you'll get to see how a business like this can run simply and effectively!

For the average person, this is a great value. And with a crew that can work as efficiently as that they definetely can be very profitable. Definetly more of a quantity over quality for these basic details.
Yeah and really this is all what most people would want. Throw in a wax job for an extra $30 and most people would take it.
lol. exactly why most detailers make no money. no understanding of real costs.
fuel to the car is 10 to 20 bucks.
2 employees is 20 to 30 bucks
generator fuel 5 bucks
chemicals 10 bucks
insurance per day 5 bucks
lol...yea keep thinking you're making money charging 80
@@jonbravo9278 I don't think you have his costs figured out.
@@jonbravo9278 is this assuming each of those expenses lasts only 1 job? his chemical was pretty heavily diluted so chemicals for this job might come out to around $1. give or take. and that's assuming he used all the soap and interior cleaner.
Mention "paint correction" "claying the paint" "extracting".......most people don't even know what it is.
Solid job good value for $80 I’m sure most clients would be happy and not too focused on the nitty-gritty that we are detailer see them as clients are really not too concerned about most of these clients wouldn’t mind running their car through a machine car wash great job guys
Dam for $80 this is one heck of a job! Great value
I am a mobile detailer and I charge 60-70 (Dallas) in my opinion this is more of a car wash than it is staining . For the price I would expect more value .
dude you gotta charge more. $80 is air. that’s nothing. are you still in business and if so what are you charging nowv
I might as well throw my two cents in this conversation also. The first thing I need to comment on is three people doing a basic detail for 80 bucks?? Even if they did five cars per day that's only 400 bucks. So let's say the owner pays his helpers a hundred each, that means he only made 200 bucks. Out of his 200 bucks he needs to fill that trailer with gas and his generator with gas which probably totals 60 bucks. Then he has to drive from job to job to job depending on how far away each job is you're looking at for five jobs even if they're 20 minutes apart that's an hour and a half of driving. Now we need to talk about the supplies being used although I really didn't see much supplies being used. So let's say that expenses minimum. So do you own a probably worked for 8 to 10 hours a day for about 140 bucks. Don't forget that we have to pay insurance on the vehicle. So my question is do I really want to kill myself doing cheap details running from job to job spending all that money and only making maybe between 10 and $15 per hour?
Now to the detail. First stop that pressure washer was getting me really nervous. I don't care how comfortable he is with it I thought the pressure washer was way too strong. I did notice there was no pre-foam. I also noticed that no one did the tires. I saw the one guy using a basic microfiber towel drying the car from bottom to top. That's a recipe for disaster. I hope they have insurance. As far as spraying the engine, that pressure washer is too strong to be doing that. Again I hope they have insurance. The interior was extremely basic. And one of the things that make me cringe is watching somebody spray liquids into the entertainment system and anything on the dashboard like that including where the odometer is and a speedometer is. Another recipe for disaster and again I hope they have insurance. So now comes my second question. If I'm not going to have the stainage removed then what the hell am I hiring someone to do a detail on my car for? I could take it to my local car wash for 15 bucks and vacuum it myself. To be honest with you I don't think I would trust these people detailing my car. Just by the way they operate as a team is impressive but I do not trust them with my car. My guess is if they keep going at that rate for $80 a car they are not going to last. I would rather find someone who cares about their car and willing to pay me to stay there and work on one car for 8 hours for 400 bucks. That I do alone. I price all my jobs at $50 an hour. If I think a vehicle depending on what the customer wants is going to take 4 hours my price is $199. If they want clay barring and compound I know that's going to add on another three to four hours that's another $199 bucks. After that I let my work speak for itself. Communication is key with the customer. Depending on the severity of the car I have to give them real expectations on what is possible and what is not possible. I cannot repair something that's irreparable. I think these people are very foolish what they're doing. If I'm dealing with people who don't care about their car then what kind of class of people am I actually dealing with? To me it just doesn't seem worth it. Like I said my price for a complete reset detail on the car is going to take anywhere from 8 to 10 hours depending on severity of damage and it's going to cost anywhere between 4 and 500 dollars depending on severity of damage. If anything sounds wrong in this comment I am using Google speech so it dictated it wrong and I apologize for that but that's my opinion on this. Good luck guys and keep on detailing
I think you're way over (25%) in labor and expenses (50%), so his gross profit, under your scenario, is more like $225. That's not a lot, but he can probably do more like 8 cars a day at that rate and time, so revenue would be more along the lines of $500-600.
@@scott1564 8 cars a day??
What about traveling to all these places? And I have no idea what your percentage breakdown means
Very well said, your description of what we just witnessed was more thorough than the work done. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your comment 😁👍
I hope they have insurance.
I said it so you wouldn't have to.
I really enjoy your channel lots of great information.
You called it correctly in the description.( Cleaned my car up). During the video you described it as a basic detail. This is a wash and vac with a wipe down. Which is fine 80.00 for that good on him ! The only thing is the problem of selling people on a detail when so many people think this is what a detail is.
Anyway just a thought. Keep up the good work ✌
Hi Scott, you are absolutely correct. Referring to such a service as a detail is what makes certain kind of clients to think that this is the amount a detail ought to be worth. I'm a Mobile detailer, and when clients try to lowball me on price, I always try to explain to them the difference between a detail and a mere wash and vac service. Thanks for pointing that out once again.
I’d be curious to know if the owner always goes to jobs with two other employees or did he just bring two other people because he knew he was being videotaped. At $80 and having two employees you don’t have a lot profit margin there.
@@cannybuildit8794 not really, even if he's just paying them $15 per hour. That is $75 per employee and only about $350 in revenue. Pretty weak.
They probably do more like 10-15 vehicles a day. Cars being $80 and larger vehicles being priced more. Lower prices usually means high volume and less quality. Still very profitable but its not my choice of business.
@@nextlevelmobiledetailingllc Not at the pace they are working on this car. Three guys taking an hour to wash it? Pitiful.
@@nldmaster They did the interior as well. Basic Interior and Exterior for $80 and it took them an hour to do it.
@@cannybuildit8794 Negative. This is where most people don't understand business and basic costs/math. The guy was stating that there is NO WAY the business can be anywhere close to profitable (that's why a business exists - to make money) with three people working for what is going to be a minimum of 1 hour, use all the chemicals, tools, water, fuel, truck, insurance, etc., and charge $90 for this. It does not work.
I puckered a little bit when he got so close with that pressure washer 🤣
This was a great video, especially for showing how low the point of entry is for mobile detailers. How long did it take them?
Pretty dang good for $80. I bet they are very profitable cause of how efficient they are. How long did they take?
Ive literally always wanted to do this! do more like this LUKE
rlly nice of you to plug him in the description
That's why I start interior first, I don't blow shit up from interior to exterior. Back tracking and redoing it.
Damn I’m a contracted mobile detailer and our prices are $50 for a basic inside and out. I only be getting 50% of the profit tho :/
This is a $25 “car wash” style that you would get from any corner wash.
I’ve been working for a car dealership for 6 months as a detailer. I’m now starting up my detailing business and plan to operate on weekends and late afternoon a few days per week on my weekdays. I watch damn near all your content mainly on customer pricing strategies , website strategies, marketing, and tool reviews. I’m based out of Seattle bro I’d love to get into contact and get some questions/tips answered on the detailing bussiness in’s and outs from a professional like you man.
Not rocket science just get into it. The sooner the better your only going to learn when u start
I'm a solo act, so I don't have the option to be as efficient and quick as they had gone. That said, if we are critiquing.... Assuming the chemical was safe for all surfaces including the glass, even on a surface clean, they should agitate. The textured surface it had, you could see in the after shots that it wasn't 'cleaned'. I guess I have a different standard for myself.
Yeah I don't really consider this traditional detailing anymore I'd put this much closer to cleaning and yeah the back of the center console doesn't seem cleaned to me either
I have a difficult time calling this a "detail" when it's nothing more than a simple wash and vac.
This IS a detail to most people. They squawk at a $200 deep clean.
A simple wash and vac is going to a car wash and paying $20 for a bad job
It’s a mobile detailing. Prices are going to be more expensive when going mobile.
@@kieljiro4981 not true at all lol prices go by what you think you are worth and how the quality is that you are providing i seen mobile detailers charge $450 for just the interior some $220 for the outside shops are the same way prices can vary depending where you live but i charge a good bit and I’m mobile
Air compressor being used and multiple people working on the vehicle definitely a detail just an entry level one.
So much info thanks i would recommend to put a time frame that way we can go back and forward through the video, “¡is important to specify the packages and what i come with to the costumer!”
Wow that would be around $200 in my area. Even for a basic detail like this, but you got to start somewhere and I’m sure his prices will go up as he keeps going.
Good stuff Wilson!
You should do the reverse have a big CZcams detailer give you a review and also you review them I think young retailers would love to see that.
This is a Straight Basic like he said at least 10 times. So why is everyone expecting a amazing wow ending?? Also let's go back to when you first started your business and didn't have the 400 dollar customer yet.. great job by these guys who probably are happy as Hell to not have a boss who's micro managing them like all you amazing professionals🤣 Basic is the key word in this video..
Professional female detailer from Savannah & Nashville TN! The Turtle Wax Spray Wax is my Go To for basic details!!
I can't just wash a car. If I can't detail it, I don't waste my time. I do however see the value in people who can do this.
Hahaha! You’re “dirty” car looks like I just “cleaned” it! I’m not a fan of cleaning though I love clean.
I have an auto detailing garage just up the street. It’s absolutely amazing what goes in versus what comes out. Good detailers are worth the money/investment.
Nice video’s, take care.
Have you used the Meguiar’s hybrid paint coating? Not many CZcamsrs talking about that one.
I can see the team effort knocking a dozen or so of these out a day, which I’m sure could work. But as a single Operator, this procedure would take me at least 2 hours. But I also wouldn’t include everything Shown here either. $80 would be a good value if this was a monthly service.
You are correct, it takes me about 2 hours to do a mini detail but they are including too much. That is why it's taking them too much time.
@@smgmaxdetailing6010 should they charge more for this type of service?
The same service cost to my country on hand car wash shops...10-12euro ( 13-15usd).... including interior and tyre deessing
They are ripping themselves off. For 80 bucks it should be a basic wash and maybe a quick vacuum. Even though this was a rough detail they are doing extra steps for free essentially.
Exactly
Yes I’m not doing no air compressor or detail brush I’m spraying and wiping down and it’s going to be very quick. Quick vacuum as well.
Think of it like this.... The client is new and they see that they are treated special and got those "for free services" deal. Next time they need a wash they will be more likely to upgrade. This is how to establish those regular customers.
The detail business has lots of competition, this is probably his way to separate himself from the others and he can still do lots of cars in one day.
@@ishe728 You'd be wrong. Most people won't even notice getting it 95% clean vs. 98-99% clean. It is a waste of time and effort. You get repeat customers by being on time, doing a good job and not charging too much.
@@nldmaster they will if you're like this guy that runs a business on the personal relationship. I understand what you guys are saying business is money per time but he's going to get that by gaining a potential regular customer that may continually upgrade their services along with a potential recommendation. America used to be like that and people were happier compared to the fast robotic way that leaves you feeling like you're getting ripped off.
Great job
@Wilson Auto Detailing what is the mileage on your Prius? I’m curious. I would say it has about 4 to 5 more years of life left.
pretty good value imo since they got to do it fast but yes its just a basic starting detail so what else do you expect. But then again for a starting detail I will just wipe down and not use a compressor like they did tbh
Theyre not detailers who take pride in their work. They dont care about your car, evidently from the video.
I like how the guy that is cleaning the door jamb with product and brush takes the dirty brush and throws it onto the back seat
Very good work, but breathing all that dust that compressor blows out- no thanx. How much time did it took for all 3 of them?
An single man startup company many are willing to do 50 to 65 express washes, but again I seen big outfit companies do really low prices, at the end of the day, first impressions and just be transparent in your packages or prices, what you get for what you pay. I have seen people go to detail garages like chemical guys in Tampa FL pay top dollar but won't pay an mobile detailer what the job is worth.
I love the sticker on the back😂
Oh my god!!!God!!!! 80$ for that.... I was charging 50, in LA for a basic wash... and I use and do it right. 2 bucket, dry it, change Tawoles, right chemicals for exterior and interior..
These people underselling themselves 😱🥱 they want to be a business, but they are selling themselves like crap
This is an example of you get what you pay for😬😬😬😬. Which is why I detail my own car.
We use to do those in the shop called them Spiff details.
I don’t like to put bottles and tools on the seats. They can leak/stain
I’m Just starting out and I’charge 80 bucks just for the inside interior I don’t touch outside yet And that is really just for carpets and seats
how much do you charge for your maintenance detail?
How many of these are they doing in a day?
That is why I like to clean my own car, they have no idea how to wash outside of the car safely.. you pay for a car wash than latter find they scratched your car...
Kinda crazy to do all that work for $80. Especially with 3 people working, plus tools and products. And gas.
Have you checked out/used restorfx? Would love to know if this stuff is as good as I’ve heard. Thanks!
Undercharging!! Especially for being mobile with a rig like that
Looked liked a rip off to me
Incredible value, this team will do very well if they can focus on having multiple cars in one location and upselling clients a little with better waxes and more thorough engine cleanings. Good advertising and you’d be making 20K a month
Yeah and then drop 15k in employess, materials and that's considering he is working 80hrs+ a week
Dream On
Hey for $80 it looks pretty good!
I'm confused everyone saying its not a detail. What about this isn't detailing? They may not be doing it the way YOU do it, but how is it different? Detailing *is* cleaning, just going above and beyond and getting into the cracks and crevices. People tend to overcomplicate, when really its just taking dirty surfaces and making them clean. I'm just starting out and watching these guys, I can't figure out what about this ISN'T detailing, or more importantly, what do you people consider going over the line from a basic wash and wipe down to a detail? Genuinely curious
This is considered a mini detail in our shop. But $80-90 coming to the customer isn’t the whole story I believe. We can do it at that price but coming out there. There’s a travel price for $40-50 on top of that. So hardly believe it’s a flat $80/90 with three guys and truck full of tools and their own generator with gas.
Fish bowlin in a Prius?! 👀
This is a regular 21$ car wash in Montreal. I think I need to move or at least go to another city and see what they consider a car wash
Charge next time if your client wants to film you on your details. Great upsell detailers.
Content for some.
I do interior/exterior cleaning for 70$ here in Portugal and ppl call me crazy for being pricy..
That is crazy cheap. My basic exterior wash/wax is $75 alone.
In Greece very basic exterior hand wash + interior vaccum, wipe down and dressing, costs 10-12euro ( 12-15usd) on car wash shops.
Full.intetior with extractor around to 50-80
That's different bro, you don't need 4-5k a month in Portugal to have a decent life. Portugal is way cheaper, so at the end of the month you are prolly making more money that we ppl in the states. Good luck, you are killing it 🔥

A little extractor use on the interior seats and carpets would bring this to a complete job. Looked real nice, though, without that.
It was a wash, not a detail. For $80 bucks to expect extraction, no way.

Good value for 80$ for average joe that doesn’t have ocd and know everything like you.

I live in Nashville and I know the cost of living here. Bringing two other employees while driving a truck and trailer and charging $80 is not going to run a business. The team was very efficient and got straight to business. They also took on a lot of liability with their technique. My question is this….would you call them back again after seeing the finished condition of the interior?
I live in Columbia & cost of living its stupid high
They were not efficient, just fast. Do not conflate the two. That was a two man job at most. I detail myself and what they did I’ve done in 30 mins top. This was disgraceful to the detailing community.
@@marshallosantos9035 very true. I thought somebody spray the navigation screen 😳
Honestly I don't know why any pro-detailer is hand drying a vehicle. I haven't hand dried for over 15 years using the "Spotless" system. I normally do dark/black vehicles...... no towel dry swirl marks ever. This year I sold my black 2006 F350 dually, looked like new with plenty clear coat. Wish I could add pictures.
What system?
Im looking to add one before spring
whats a spotless system
$80 for this is properly priced in my opinion. $40 inside $40 out nothing crazy going on. After taxes and employees, cost this guy is making $20 per car probably.
I lose money because I can't let things go. If someone paid for a basic wash, I can't just skip over things. This is why I'm going to really restructure my packages. Let those smaller jobs go and focus on clients who understand what a detail really is.
Exactly. Im looking at this thinking how is this profitable. I probably wouldn't add this to packages either. Seems more like a maintenance clean package
This is nothing more then a simple wash and they should’ve started with the inside first 🙊
Nice to see but this just seems like a nice way to make a little more than minimum wage. Fuel for the monster truck, fuel for the pressure washer, and excessive labor. If this were brick and mortar with massive volume the numbers might work but then you have more overhead for a commercial building. Drop the help and keep the price.
Wait I didn’t even see them clean wheels or tires
This is not a detail, it's a glorified wash, or a commercial for you. NUFF SAID!!!🤯🤯🤯
No 2 bucket method, dude was scrubbing the washmitt kinda to fast up and down side to side and without the 2 bucket method they could scratch the paint and the wheels weren't down
No gloves/resp protection? I would caution anyone starting out, spraying chemicals/blowing out crevices to wear a mask & gloves.
What do you actually mean by ( pre foam) how many times one has to foam a car?
He means foaming the car and then pressure washing the soap off and then foaming up the car again and then using a wash mitt to wash the car. Using pressured water will only get off so much of the dirt and debris that are on the vehicles surface. The “pre foam“ loosens and wears down the dirt and debris that are on the cars surface that might off not have came off during the initial pressure wash process. This not only reduces the chances of scratching and/or marring of the paint but takes off more of the dirt, road grime and debris that may be on the vehicle. If there is still dirt and road grime after completely washing the vehicle and the surface feels rough across the vehicle then you should proceed with a clay bad treatment followed by a sealant such as a wax of your choice.
In my country that’s a car wash not detailing
I hope he does this job by himself. 80 bucks with three people involved. No profit at all. I’d be pissed having to wash 5 cars in a day and only go home with 130 bucks. I’d charge 140 minimum for a basic wash especially if they are beginners and are splitting the money
Damn 140 just for a basic wash
That exterior washing method made me cringe if atleast they foam - rinse then refoam . Nah they just foam and scratch the paint with all the dirt still on the paint .
I mean if a cars a shit box and I'm charging 80 bucks that's time wasted and time is money , I work at a Bentley dealer in Florida. I can't do this type of detail at work obviously lol but if tis a side job on a trashed car and they don't want everything I normally do then why would you waste time taking extra care during the wash process if the car is trashed to begin with
@@motomatt7102 facts
If people are saying these guys are doing too much for $80 then why the hell would I hire them and not go to a touchless wash and vacuum my car myself all for $8-$15 dollars? I could go every week for a month for the same cost. Mobile washing is NOT a viable profitable business, only detailing is when you know you take in money and give quality.
you need to look at what detail package you got. there's packages for a reason. so $80 bucks for what they did is fair. 🤷🏽♂️
80$ for what they did is a deal man
Amateurs. Can't believe they get paid
$80???!!!!???
That's crazy cheap.
But they are making some rookie choices too I guess
Even with only paying $80 I would still be upset with how they actually washed the exterior. They did not rinse out their mitt once and were dragging all of the dirt from the bottom of the car to the top. Big no for me. Especially when most of my clients are moms with $70,000 SUV"s.
But if your only charging $80 then your reaching customers that dont care about theyre paint and dont care whether or not your rinsing out your mitt. If your reaching people with 70k cars then your probably charging quite a bit more and receiving a much higher quality detail. Point being that your comparing two different types of customers looking for different things.
@cras gomes false. The dirt and grim is stuck to the paint. A true foam pre cleanse emulsifies the dirt then you rinse again. If that was a coming precleanse they kept the dirt on the vehicle and proceeded to wash in circles bottom to top and not rinsing at all
@cras gomes that's the thing, imagine these ppl doing the exact same thing in your brand new +40.000$+ vehicle. I would be pissed, especially knowing they didn't clay and there is still a bunch of junk sticked to the paint.
