  • A number of subscribers have asked if they can make a small financial contribution towards my efforts. I have now opened a simple paypal account at paypal.me/peakfiddler.
I am planning to self fund the publication of a collection of my tunes, so this will help towards those costs.
Janet visits Carterhaugh Forest in the Scottish Borders, where she meets Tam-Lin, a noble knight trapped in an Elf's body. She agrees to release Tam Lin from the spell, but faces the wrath of a very annoyed Queen of the Fairies.
My original version of Tam-Lin, or the Glasgow reel which is attributed to Davey Arthur, creates a great deal of interest and email from CZcams listeners. In regard to how the tune should be played, why my version is slightly different from the regular on-line version and also the notation which I posted on this website.
I created a teaching video specifically to help anyone out who wanted to try and master the rather tricky technique to play the Tam Lin/Glasgow Reel.
Performance: • Tam Lin - Glasgow Reel
    Teaching: • Irish Fiddle Lesson - ...
I have felt for quite some time that this tune is difficult to master, particularly for those that may have only recently started to play the fiddle. Hence, the need for a slightly easier version to play. Which is why this version has come about, as I believe it will be an ideal introduction or steppng stone for anyone who wishes to learn to play Tam-Lin or the Glasgow reel as it is sometimes called.
Fortunately for everyone on CZcams, I decided not to dress in a skimpy outfit and run around a beach or a forest whilst playing this tune, but use the very good services of the following photographers to assist with the interesting graphics.

What a pity you can only 'like' a tune once! This is bliss!

As others have said, you really should publish a book. Fiddlers would queue up for it!

I am Sappy, it's a mix between happy because this nice easier version came out, and sad because I'am just at the end of 6 excrutiating months trying to get the previous version right as a beginner :p

@@peakfiddler thank you a lot for your work and the time you spend spreading the love of fiddle.
Your previous video of Tam Lin is actually one of the two things that made me start seriously the violon and kept me motivated.
When I saw it I immediately thought :"This ! This piece is my goal !".
I've been playing it everyday for months and I'm finally starting to get it.

Oh my gosh! I like this version the best! It’s usually heard played as a fast polka or something. This is far more pleasant.

This is so nice! It has a more old-fashioned feeling than the reel. Do you think it would be interesting to play it as a jig and then a reel? I’ve heard people do that with money musk, first a strathspey, than a reel.

This is great, thank you for all the nice videos and notations! Can these chords be used to accompany your "reel-version" of tamlin as well?

    • @peakfiddler
      @peakfiddler  Před 3 lety +1

Yes indeed, I just checked by playing along with the Reel version and sure enough the chord structure is identical. I might just add an Am in the final bar on the A section of the low tune before the final Dm. Also, on the high version add an additional Em in the A section, last bar just before the Am.
