I totally agree with the whole “not comparing yourself to your peers” thing. My new major requires 2 extra semesters but theres no time limits when it comes to life! We shouldnt stress out about not finishing after 4 yrs bc graduating later is better than not graduating at all 🤷🏻‍♀️

When you choose a major, own that shit and practice like you've never practiced before. Be the best at that subject matter - don't sit there and ponder whether or not it's the right decision because it will never be the right decision 100%, it's a trade-off. Parts of the job or field will not align with some of your interests, curiosities, personality style, or attachment style. However, you will become a professional in which experience is gained that enables you to slowly bridge towards the field that interests your passions. In other words, assume that what you're passionate about will change over time, because it does for most people. Assume this fact to have confidence in choosing a field that you're mostly sure about entering but not 100% sure. You'll never be 100% certain.
I've worked as an actor, bellman, labourer, high school teacher, and now I'm doing my masters in psychology to become a psychotherapist. Your first career is unlikely to be the one you settle on for the long-term; or, better said, you'll probably have several long-term careers throughout your life. So pick one you find interesting and crush that shit.

you're so right dude, i legit am majoring in computer science and sitting here complaining about it being hard, but granted i've done absolutely nothing to try and better myself in the field. I guess its just that since its been online school, ive had the luxury of just being able to half ass school work and not devote a significant amount of attention to school. ima try and teach myself code, idk how it'll go or if i even stick with it but, I was legit just going to give up because i don't know shit a year into my major. granted, I do not like coding at all, im decent at math but i can't see myself doing math for the rest of my life. but ill give it a shot, i just don't know wtf to do rn, currently a freshman bouta be a sophomore. I like film, and fitness/nutriton but i don't know how to use these hobbies to find a major/job for my future self.

@@jhill17 "I do not like coding at all, im decent at math but i can't see myself doing math for the rest of my life". Right. Exactly. Note that what you take now in university is not what you will do for the rest of your life. That is a prism that students see the world through while within the walls of university. It's not all bad by any means, in fact it's a good thing that you're planning for the next few years because you said, "but ill give it a shot...". Crush that shit. Give it the best damn shot you got. Get paid. Get paid a lot. Then transition to fitness & nutrition with skills to be able to make your own website and database while working a contracted position in coding until you get on your feet. Good luck. Plan your next 5 years, then go from there.

Thank you for your advice! I am in 11th grade and need to apply to the universities, but I haven’t even decided my major yet. I wanted to choose programming because I do competitive programming (not quite successful though). And maybe because of being unsuccessful in it I quickly become frustrated and thought about choosing engineering instead (when I was in 5th grade I took courses on robotics and quite enjoyed it). And recently I was thinking of becoming a game artist. Now I think I’ll try programming and switch to the engineering if will feel so. You really convinced me that choosing a wrong major is not so critical. I think your comment was much more helpful than this video)

My college journey has been all over the place. After high school,I went because I didn't want to disappoint my parents and eventually dropped out after my first semester. Then,I went to a trade school which was an absolute disaster and I hated it. I went through some tough times for the next several years and eventually went back to college for one of their fast track programs. I'm currently going back to college for the third time to major in what I'm really passionate about. English has called my name since before my Freshman year of high school, but I failed to listen until now. It's okay if you can't figure it out. Life has a way of working things out when you need it to. You may have to go down a lot of different paths to get where you need to be,but I promise, you'll get there eventually. Keep searching for yourself.

Okay. Woah. I can relate to this so much. I applied to college undecided. I knew I wanted to go into business at orientation, so I switched then to what my university considered "Pre-Business." It's like what you said you experienced - 2 years of general business courses that helped you navigate which field to choose. We couldn't declare a major until we were Juniors. Like you, I loved my Financial Accounting introductory course I took my first (Fall) semester of Sophomore year. But, I also loved Marketing and had always had it in the back of my mind as something I could see myself majoring in (I didn't view Accounting that way before because I really had no idea what Accounting even was/entailed before I took the class). When it came time to declare, I looked at all the classes I would have to take for each major and figured out that I could do both while still graduating in 4 years, if, of course, the classes were offered in the semesters I needed them and didn't overlap, and I got lucky! I had decided in my head that I would also major in Finance (an extra 4 classes to triple major) if I needed to stick around for an extra semester for scheduling issues with the other two. Taking 5 or 6 classes a semester, living at home, and class offerings working in my favor, I graduated this April with straight A's and 128 credits, completing both Accounting and Marketing majors in 4 years!
People would always look at me weird when I told them I was majoring in both Accounting and Marketing because they were "so different." It's funny to me when I hear that because I think the two fields are the most important in the business world and being educated in both can't hurt - especially when the alternative was giving up something I loved to take a bunch of random electives instead! (Additionally, as a straight A student I always had the mindset that if I were to get a lower grade I could much more easily handle it if I did it in a class that was helping me directly achieve something that mattered to me - my majors.)
I know what you mean about the whole CPA/Internship pressure, though. They always kept pushing that at my school, too. They even suggested prolonging school/taking semesters off just to get an internship LOL (I laugh because I'm a hater of the whole start this phase of your life while you're still in this phase of your life thing.). It goes without saying I haven't had an internship, but this Fall I will start pursuing my MBA to get the credits and take the classes necessary to become a CPA, although I haven't officially decided whether or not I want to. (Through my MBA program, I aim to get an internship or two before I graduate. The program will take me 3 semesters, 4 classes each to complete.) Hopefully my MBA process will open my eyes a little further to which path to choose - Accounting or Marketing.
At 22, I feel like I've done a pretty good job at staying true to who I am and what I enjoy. However, I still have things to figure out, big decisions to make that could quite literally change the course of my life. Like you, too, change scares me and it's weird to think that after next year my daily routine will change so much from what I've grown accustom to. However, I have faith that I will figure it out and end up where I'm supposed to be if not soon then eventually, and that's enough for now. With that, good luck on the rest of your college journey. Wishing you happiness and all the best!

I’m really excited because I’m going into the school as a different major I was bio with a minor in psych but I flipped it to majoring in psych and a minor in bio. Most of the people I went to high school graduated just a couple weeks ago in May. But it’ll probably take me at least two more years to graduated. It was very hard originally to come to terms that I’d be graduating “late”. I finally came upon the realization that I’m doing what’s best for me and shouldn’t compare myself to others. Seems like it comes down to potential job options associated with a major. Some majors are more versatile than others when it comes to job options.
So before choosing a major take into account how versatile it is as far as job options. I hear that economics is a good major for this reason.
I think job versatility is important for a major. Because you never know what your interest will be 8 to 10 years after college.

When my high school finished, I was thinking of so many things like psychology, literature, economics, media, business, journalism etc. I want something high paying plus interesting at first I chose media major with focus on advertising because it mixes creativity with business but it was a wrong decision because I get to know that I'm not that creative, doing shooting work, illustration etc. Then I realized I want to change major, and one thing clicked me that Business is that major which is demanding, high paying PLUS it mixes everything which I was thinking at first. Now I'm a happy business student who's specializing in three fields finance, marketing and banking. As a business student I'm studying everything I wanted! From psychology to languages, from economics to advertising (has media side too) and so on.

heyyy i totally feel you cuz i had kind of the same experience , in my country we have different branches in high school , there is scientific , math, mechanic , literature ; foreign languages and "accounting and management" , like once you are in high school u choose one of these branches to focus on what you are good at and prepare you to what you want to do in college , so for me , i chose the scientific branch , but through the years i found out that am not that good at it as i was in middle school , so when i took my Baccalaureat ( its the big last huge exam in high school that decides if you can go to college or not) , i did passed it and with a good grade to say the least , but i just didn't feel it anymore, and when people started choosing their majors in college , my friends all went to science related colleges ..EXCEPT ME!! i chose JOURNALISM cuz i wanted something different , i had a lot of disaprovments ofc, my mom thought it was stupid ( love u mom) to waste all those years in high school to change everything in the end , my friends found it weird too, cuz not many do this major after studying scientific branch; and even when i started college, every time someone knew what i did, they laugh and say that it was crazy cuz there's more opportunities in the scientific field....even now, after 3 years, i still get the same remarks from everyone , specially in my family, when i see how they treat my sister who chose a hard scientific major ( i understand that its harder than my major but still , i am studying after all) ... anyway, and now that i took my licence degree, am going to continue my Master , and back to changing majors lol, through my years in college i realized i dnt want to do TV and audio-visual kinda thing , so i decided to major next year in PUBLIC RELATIONS cuz that's what i want to do from now on......just saying that you don't have to push yourself to do certain things that u don't feel like doing them, just go with what you feel like even if that meant multiple major changes lol

You’re still so lucky you were able to switch majors so many times. Here in the Netherlands if you start at college you, chose your major when you apply and if after the first semester you know you want to do something else you can go to a different school and start in February which means you’re one semester behind on the other people with the same major. If you want to change your major after the first semester you have to wait until September to start a new major and you’ll be in first year again. Here if you don’t know what you want to study it is advised to take a gap year because changing majors that many times gets hella expensive

Here we have GKs (Grundkurse = basic classes) and LKs (Leistungskurse = classes that are harder and you have more of them) and I wasn’t sure what LKs to take and also felt kinda pressured to pick something “easy and safe” because you can’t change ur LKs again so i picked english and geography (super easy imo) even tho i wanted to take biology and geography. Everyone kept telling me that biology is gonna be really hard and “why would you make it harder for yourself” so i picked those subjects. I immediately regretted it and went back to the year office (we have teachers for our year and they have an office, that’s where you go and pick ur subjects) and pretty much begged them to change it and thankfully they did even tho it was like a week after i first picked the subjects. I honestly thought for a moment that I’ll have to do english for two years and while i was good (good for german standards lmao) i just never rlly enjoyed it. Biology is def more fitting and i enjoy it a lot more and i will probably go to uni in that field.

I’ve changed my major an excessive amount & it has pushed me back. I went from Criminal Justice to Double majoring in Psychology & Anthropology to Psychology & Forensics to lastly (hopefully not changing again) Psychology & Criminal Justice w/ a specialization in Forensic Psych. Also transferred twice...so yeah my journey has been a whirlwind

Holy shit I am literally in shock cause this describes me exactly! Those exact same majors are the ones that I’ve been going back in forth with but I keep doubting myself. Forensic psych just seems hard for me bc I keep thinking about if I’ll really like a job doing it in the future. Any tips? 😂

Larissa J.R. I love my majors now. Forensic Psych isn’t hard at all. My school has a BA & BS option for Forensic Psych & Forensic Science. I was doing the BS for Forensic Psych track but switched it to the BA track last quarter because I don’t think I’ll have enough time to finish the science requirements with my other major in Psychology. My tip is you’ll find what you really want to study sooner or later. You’ll have to make a decision at some point & even though it’s hard ultimately decide on what you’ll be happy studying. Because it’s not worth it if you hate the major you’re in.

Wow I feel like this video is a literal reflection of my life. I was thinking about accounting and now I’m looking towards marketing (granted I have not taken any business classes which sounds stupid, I know) but hopefully that is the path I will take because I am intrigued by the creative aspect like you mentioned. Thank you for this video, I feel like it relived my anxiety a bit! 😊

Is the pressure of the society, we have to understand ( I HAVE TO UNDERSTAND) that each one have the moment and no feel the pressure to do it at the same time like others. I started college in January and was the happiest and the worst months moments that I’ve had.😂😭😂❤️ You were helpful
