As someone who lives in BC and does travel around Canada to these free camping spots and just beautiful spots in general around canada. I do appreciate you keeping this stuff a secret. Because it is obvious when one place has been publicly known , there is garbage everywhere and it's just a mess among other unwelcome stuff.

So one of my favs is down the Hummingbird south of Nordegg. Spent some time with friends at Del and Judy’s outfitters, horseback riding into the sub alpine. Amazing!!
Hummingbird was the 1st trail run I did in my ZR2. Just a day trip with no camping, but it's a great spot.

Born and raised Albertan who has spent a few stints working on and calling on drilling rigs all over AB, northern east BC and Sask, it's absolutely beautiful country.
Also a long time forestry forest fan and looks like I just found the next diamond in the rough. Subscribed.
Last summer did a road trip with my German Shepard. We went west of Caroline to the Forestry Trunk Road. Headed North to Ram River Falls. When you mentioned snow, rain, hail. Got all 4 seasons in one day. Where I failed was I didn't tell anyone were I was going. Went down a dirt path to a creek only to realize it was for ATVs. Yes Powerwagon had to lock all axles to get out. No phone service. When a Shepard squats on her hind legs. ears and paws are up sniffing. Get back to your F'n truck.
I drove that road in the late 70's, from Coleman to Grande Prairie. Had to get out once near Hinton, I think, for gas. Beautiful! The forest change coming down into Grande Praire in fall was amazing. None of it was paved, or very wide, back then.
Good video. Haven’t been down highway #40 in 20+ years. Drilled many holes there in the 90’s. 5000-6000 m holes gas, sour gas (h2s). Drive there all times of the year. Winter, fall, spring, summer. Always nice to get out of Calgary/Edmonton. Saw many black bears, cougars, deer, moose, fox, coyotes, even couple Grizzly’s at well sites near Grande Cache. Enjoyed fishing. Robb bar was always a busy place to meet up with other rig crews, railroad crews, and coal miners. Keep the video flowing. They are good. Thank You. ✅
Hey Kevin thx for sharing your travels and seeing the true beauty of Alberta . I'm a old trucker that's has driven all over Alberta and some other places , also loves camping . I notice in your camper there is a slider window , I just hope your truck has one as well . I have watch enough bear attacks on campers , some of the people did get away , but others wasn't that lucky . Bears can smell food for 5 miles away , so I would only stay for night and move to another spot . I watch another camper that had the same rig like yours . He brought out something out that I think all campers should 1 of these , it will save cash . Google this to see where you can buy 1 , its called Tri Pod Grill . Has a chain on it so you can raise or lower over the camp fire . Just think about how much you save from cooking over a camp fire . What I like about camping is what you can learn from other campers . Thx again and safe travels
The forestry trunk rd stretch is a beautiful area, I field operated in that area for 6 years and discovered some great areas to explore.
You’re right and wrong…Actually the northern part,of the FTR starts at Godwin and comes out east of Grande Cache at the Muskeg river…. People call the paved road from Grande prairie to Grande Cache the trunk road but it’s actually the gravel road. In the last couple of years I’ve driven Both All the way to Cochrane. Hell of a read ride on a bike with a hammock…
Places you need to have a look at….. crescent falls is beautiful and there a nice campsite on the river
Ram falls is a must to see! Stop for pie at the store in Nordegg. Buy a pie for the road!
Abraham lake is a beautiful detour. Eat that extra pie.
South of ram falls, every corner is beautiful and an adventure, once we hit cochrane; we start back north. Either on the highway or any backroad we find. Watch out for wild cows and horses

The highway between G.P and Grande Cache is hwy 40. I traveled it for years, headed that way this morning. Never heard anyone call it the trunk. Totally different road.
@@brando81 I agree. I’ve been on both roads. I’ve heard a few refer to hwy 40 as the north end of the trunk road but the actual trunk road comes out at Godwin. We actually start there and head south… right after a donut stop at the greatest little donut shop ever! (If you know…you know)

I camp out of my 2005 Dodge Dakota with a topper on it and not quite as big or fancy as yours but still it’s heaven to get out of Calgary and head out to the mountains. Keep up the great work!
It’s the ftr in Alberta. Every single spot is a secret. Throw a stone in any direction down the ftr and you have a secluded private secret spot. It goes for miles and it has hundreds of roads that cone off it.
I’ve spent dozens of nights down there. That cook shack at brazeau has kept me dry on a few rainy nights. And was a lifesaver on a snowy May long weekend.

Great vlog! I personally enjoy it when you get out in the wild and share nature with us and share the beauty of Alberta. I certainly agree with your choice to stay in that beautiful spot. Anytime I can be by a river or lake and hear the rushing or lapping water then truly I am at my happiest. I love people but I’m my happiest when I’m alone and in a peaceful place. Brings back memories, my first recolection of life was in a logging camp, mom dad brother sister. camped in a 24 footer trailer, summer time, lots of families. Between Grand prairie and Grand cash along the kakwa, smokey river's. Beautiful country. I remeber us stopping at the fire lookouts for wiener roasts. The old out door box camp bbq's on a metal pole. Awsome vid. We travelled it alot, from Hinton all the way to Nordegg too , had and still have family in calgary. Again awsome.
Kevin - great video. I do a lot of camping along hwy 40 further south, and really appreciate guys like you not revealing the hidden gems. Exploration is part of the magic of getting out there…and we definitely don’t want swarms of people!!

Sundre to the Yahatinda is the best along the RedDeer. Also the Clearwater at corkscrew mountain. Awesome.
I was down by sundre for a night when I was heading south once last year and it was a gorgeous spot on the red deer river, can’t wait to explore it again!

I've had the pleasure to drive the trunk road from Colman to Grand Prairie. Its paved up north from Hinton to Grand Prairie. Still beautiful. Grand Cash interesting place at top of a mountain. South to Colman is also great very different. Lots of mountain blue birds .

Great looking ribs " Nice country I fought fire in that Nordeg area & one day i want to road trip all the way from the north to the south now that i have my camping rig going :) I have a few video's up of my trip to the Yukon last fall , But only had two weeks so planning to go back next year for 6 weeks & do the whole Yukon :)) I'm a back road kind of guy !
Great video Kevin! My wife and I just drove a week ago from Edson to Robb to Cadomin then to Hinton to our Airbnb! The drive from Robb to Cadomin was sketch for a FWD car. We were planning on exploring Ghost Towns and abandoned mines but it wasn’t working out. Wished I saw your video earlier, I would have used my SUV. 😂
Yeah the May long was pretty cold here in Alberta. Haven’t been on that forestry trunk road in many years. Use to be some good camping on the Ram River,not far from Nordegg.
The only thing about this video that disappoints me, is how little bacon he put on that breakfast wrap! 🤣
Did pipeline work 10 years ago where hwy 40 and FTR meets kakwa and smoky river. Was a busy road then. So mush so …..vhf radios were a necessity. Beautiful country
Have worked and camped up and down the FTR since I was a teen. We camped in the Blackstone, Clearwater & Limestone areas with our kids when they were growing up. I hear ya on that stretch south of Kanannaskis, being a solid stretch of washboard. We did that on the maiden voyage with our little motorhome, proved how well built it was as nothing rattled loose. We spend a lot of time around Nordegg nowadays, enjoying it all with the grandkids.

There are times the trunk road is smoother then most paved roads ( weather dependent), take your time and enjoy .
Go to that camp ground in hunting season and it’s packed solid, the road itself gets very busy then too

Washboard is deadly in a TC - lol - Always wondered about that road - I usually take the Jasper/40 route when heading to GP and the QE/22 coming home as its safer traveling alone but that looks like a great road trip. I did Kananaskis many years ago when it was still wild - before the Gov ruined it.
I see that river and think, gotta be fishing. Need to get a kayak for some of those places. Opens up a whole mother wirld. Kayak fishing is great. Try Fickle Lake, south of Hinton. Great spot.

FTR washboard? No kidding. But love that area. If you want to get away from the droves of people, thats the place to go. Its gorgeous.
After driving hours on some sections that are washboard rough its also nice to get back on pavement.

Well I know of a few good campsites on that road...lol..we will keep them secret. Now I am very interested...another slow cooker channel ..anyone who watches Foresty Forest enjoys the back country.
The FTR is easily the greatest single source of free camping in Alberta. There's sites all along the road itself, plus dozens of smaller roads and trails with dozens of good camp spots. I want to make a full week of driving and camping on it. Start in GP and end in Coleman.

Keep in mind that the Forestry Trunk Road branches off of the paved Highway 40 south of Grande Cache at the Muskeg Corner and comes out on Highway 43 on the east side of the Smoky River.

For those FCFS camping sites along the Hwy 40 FTR are they pay per use at the park or covered by the AB inland camping pass?
Campgrounds with established sites taken care of by fish and game are about 15$ but the sites out of the campgrounds are covered under the camping pass

Any advice for a senior female doing this trip alone?
Let someone know your heading out and when you are expected to be back into service, pack bear spray or other wildlife defence. Be safe and avoid unnecessary risks, have a great time though and enjoy the scenery!!!

What I've noticed is the lack of wildlife at least in BC,....no Squires or rabbits. Not much in the way of deer either.

I’ve noticed we have an abundance of deer that like to run in front of the truck in Alberta, I stopped driving at night just for that reason! Bc seems to be a lot less deer but I’ve seen way more bears there.
cool video .... I deliver methanol to well sites in the Rocky Mountain House area so I'm off road most of the time in remote areas. Not on the trunk road but all around it. I've seen some wicked camping spots with cell service that no one but myself and a few others even know about.
Keep those spots close!
