    I just bought a bottle of this, after discovering that Glenfarclas is among the few distilleries/brands that doesn't engage in the deceptive practice of adding caramel color to their scotch. The others I know of are Macallan, Glendronach, Glenglassaugh and Bruchladich. After tasting the Glenfarclas 12, I have to say it's my new favorite scotch. It's very mellow and easy-drinking without adding any water or ice. Or as you say, "dangerously sippable" - moreso than the Macallan 12 double-oak or the Glendronach 12. I'll have to pick up a bottle of the Glenfarclas 15 to see how it compares to the Glendronach 15 (They're basically the same price).

    I just bought a Glenfarclas 12 yr yesterday after watching your review. Its pretty good stuff. Its my second bottle of Glenfarclas. I started with the 25 yr but don't want to spend that kind of money again. The Glenfarclas 12 tastes very good. Its just short on the finish/complexity. For me the 25 yr is like a $100,000 Mercedes and the 12yr is like a $40,000 Mercedes. Not the same performance but still a Mercedes. Cheers

      Try the No 105. Its about 99$ US but is cask strebgth and has loads of flavor. If you liked the 12 yr old, you will like the 105, out you mind the 53% bite.

      It's a really good! It's a "manly" Scotch. Strong on flavor. Intense but not astringent. It gives you "the Vapors" when you drink it. I wish I had Horst's nose for Scotches, I am very jealous of him.

    • @canal-do-guga-namura
      @canal-do-guga-namura Před rokem

      I thought it was very "meh"... very low on the sherry influence... a bit of a metallic taste. I read somewhere they use a lot of 3rd, and 4th fill casks and it shows. I would much rather spend a little more and get a 1l bottle of the Balvenie Triple Cask 12... it's vastly superior to this.
      Still it's not like it's bad... but it doesn't come close in quality to the likes of Aberlour 12 (the NCF version), GlenDronach 12, GlenAllachie 12, Balvenie 12 Doublewood, Bunnahabhain 12.
      It's worth it if you're going for quantity over quality, but if you look hard enough you can find deals on any of these other superior drams.
      With that said, each person has their personal taste, so I'm sure there's someone out there who regards this scotch as their favorite. Cheers

      @@bekemdangiu hi, thanks. As for the sediment I don’t have this but have this with some other vintage bottles I’ve bought. I’ve been informed this is normal and due to either 1) a dry cork or 2) a cork that’s been in contact with the dram constantly (some whiskies kept on its side for extended periods) the rule of thumb is to keep the whisk(e)y upright for as long as possible and on a monthly frequency get the cork moist. As for the taste, it hasn’t affected the ones I bought and it’s harmless :)

    It's not terrible but I will not be replacing my bottle. It's just not on par with some of my other 12yrs like Aberlour 12 NCF, GlenAllachie 12, GlenDronach 12, Bunnahabhain 12, Macallan 12 Sherry Oak... if we're talking about 1l bottles there's the Balvenie 12 triple cask... they all wipe the floor with the GlenFarclas 12.
    Using it as a tongue warmer for first pours before pouring something more enjoyable.

      Try GlenDronach 12, a beast of a 12 yr old. It's very complex... dark fruit, raisins, definitely spicey. Aberlour 12 Non Chillfiltered is pretty good too, but GlenDronach is spicier (and overal better IMHO), I love both. I have a bottle of the Glenfarclas 12 and unless oxidation really changes it, so far I didn't like it very much... they clearly use low quality casks which brings a bit of a metallic flavor. Also the alcohol is not well integrated because the caks maturing the whisky are huge so there's not a lot of contact with the spirit. Worth for quantity over quality IMO.
      GlenMorangie 10 is a delicious little simple dram, you taste vanilla, orange and that's it. Laphroaig on the other hand is a complex beast, I love it (not for beginners either, unlike glenmorangie which is a perfect beginner dram).
      Try GlenAllachie 12, it's simply wonderful. Not really spicy though. It's currently my favorite 12 year old (and I tried a lot of them).
