He turnned both of them the 12 kuzuki have some of Muzans blood in their own blood, so when they give blood to another or their blood mixes with humans they turn as well. This is why theres so many random stray demons on top of the 12 that are strongest and Muzan.

I also like to think that they walk thro the fires of hell together to burn away their sins since they are just made demons because they are victims of Muzan (his blood is what turns a demon and once ur a demon u have his blood in urs so u also can turn others, be it by accident or on purpose thats how Nezuko was turnned she accidentally got some of his blood in her wound.). So hopefully they are reborn differently and in a better life together this backsory always makes me cry no matter how many times i watch it.

She was still alive when they became demons, that save both of them, he couldn't "control" her, just lended his strength to her and borrowed sigh as well as power, but it was her doings, so they were two separated people turned into two demons.
As for why were they like that (like you needed to kill both), I don't remember it being explained ever in the manga, my guess is that both were transformed at the same time, together, and he wanted to be like that (to protect her), so he perhaps Muzan himself made them like that, or was by one of the siblings blood demon art that they could be it.

For clarification about Nezuko, it's not like she has healing powers. She just can burn demon stuff with her demon art without hurting humans. That's what she did, burn all the poison inside them.

      @TankInATree Před 16 dny +3

Yeah. I don't know if it was accurately translated that Inosuke's skin started to "heal"... it might well have been. But it was just not the 'best' translation IMO. So many people get confused about this, because of the wording.
Another cool thing about Nezuko's Blood Demon Art, is that it doesn't just burn physical demon stuff. As I see it, In Mugen Train, it burned through Tanjiro's dream caused by Lower One's Blood Demon Art and it burned away the falsehoods about Tanjiro's looks, waking him enough to actually be able to reject the dream. Right before that moment, he became aware that he was in a dream, but he was still his 'old' self and not Demon Slayer Tanjiro, so he didn't know what to do about it.

In hindsight, you can see the signs that Daki is actually still a 13 year-old girl, the way she's crying when things won't go her way, her childish outlook at the world, the way she runs to her big brother to save her when things get bad.

  • @shockhorn81
    @shockhorn81 Před 17 dny +296

It wasn't explained in the anime but the reason Daki/Ume stabbed the samurai was because he insulted her brother. They are both upper rank 6, Gyutaro is stronger than her but they work well together. As for how he controls her Gyutaro can close one of his eyes and see all her movements to fight for her and use their attacks in sync, it can also be a weakness though as Gyutaro is protective of his sister.
They were both turned into demons after she was burned alive, the scenes after that with her was Gyutaro thinking about the life she could have had if she was raised normally. His only regret was her because she could have turned out differently than him, but even when Gyutaro told her to leave him and go towards the light she didn't want to leave him remembering their promise so they went to hell together.
As Tanjiro said people won't forgive them for what they did which is why they need to have each other. The parallels between them and Tanjiro and Nezuko shows that anyone could have become demons if things turned out differently, as well as how Tanjiro views demons seeing them as people who turned out that way instead of just monsters.
All demons have Muzan's blood in them the upper ranks are allowed to share his blood with people, but it comes down to Muzan if they become demons or not. The upper ranks can only give blood, Akaza upper 3 tried to turn Rengoku remember.
Tengen and his wives made a promise to retire after they defeated an upper rank, so he would have retired even if he didn't lose a hand and an eye.

You know, I never thought about it until Luke questioned if Ume had become Daki or if Daki was created by Gyutaro. I always assumed it was as you said.
But, hear me out, an alternative path was if only Gyutaro had become a demon, then ATE Ume and manifested her with his newly found demon powers. That would potentially explain why they have the power to share a body.
I dunno, it seems plausible-do you know if it’s ever been confirmed one way or another?

People always say a certain demon is there favorite tragic backstory, but I don’t think anything will ever top Gyutaro and Daki/Ume for me, because of the connections and similarities I see in myself with Gyutaro.
My own little sister and I, we were raised well and had a good life. We didn’t suffer any of the tragedy like these two did, but their bond and story… if… if we were in a similar position to them, I would have done everything the same as Gyutaro. I can’t hate him. I just can’t. And so every time I see this part, I start fucking crying my eyes out like no tomorrow because I can’t help but feel for these two. They really had nothing but each other and had to crawl their way to anything that resembled a better life, only to be robbed!

Ume's and Gyutaro's backstory is so heartbreaking, they had a rough life, everyone treated them badly, and the only one who was "kind" to them was a demon, no wonder why they turned up the way they did, also, to answer your question, yes, Ume was turned into a demon too and them being like one is due to being an Upper moon and having stronger powers that makes them be able to do things like that. Hey Luke, I've heard so many times why that all the hashira don't go on missions together and I'm you deserve an explanation: it's simple really, after rengokus death there aren't many hashira left and now tengen retired too. The hashira and ubuyashiki estate is an unknown location for the demons, if muzan were to know where they stayed, he would send all the upper moons plus himself to go kill them all. Another reason they don't go on missions together is that there are always many incidents with demons and some too advanced for lower demon slayers to face, leaving those jobs for the hashira, leaving the estate unguarded would provide vulnerability towards the ubuyashiki family and the safety of others, meaning that the other hashira are acting as guards and backup in extreme cases :))

Tanjiro is the only one who sees this, and it’s the crux of his whole character, what he represents, and what his mission is. He says to the master “i will strike with the sword that will stop the chain of grief”. Child of brightness, he represents the sun. Which in this fictional universe, likely with Shinto influence, the sun is a purifying agent. And the moon is corrupt. The sun kills demons because it judges their actions and brings justice. Women working in kirimise are either women who have reached retirement age in the brothel but have not been able to return to their parents' homes and have no prospects for marriage or employment, or prostitutes who have been dismissed from the brothel due to illness from which they are unlikely to recover.
Rashomon Gashi was the least safe place in Yoshiwara.
The Yoshiwara brothels were of higher status and charge higher prices in the order of 'Omise', 'Nakamise' and 'Komise', and even the lowest 'Komise' was too high for commoners to go to, so most commoners used the 'Kirimise' brothels.

Ume/Daki was about to die and that demon offered to make them Demons. They were both turned into demons. That’s how Daki lived this long. They don’t really explain how they have the ability to be one body but I would assume based on the story it’s just part of their abilities of becoming a demon when they were siblings so close. Especially when they made the promise, they were like bunched up in that straw together kinda like one.

  • @avakinneha284

The blond guy that turned them into demons used to be uppermoon six but he later became stronger and moved up the ranks, therefore leaving tye uppermoon 6 spot empty which was occupied by Daki and Gyutaro.
As for what happened to Daki, she was barely thirteen but that Samurai wanted her to be his wife, therefore in an act of rebellion/ self defence, she stabbed him in the eye with a hairpin. After that she was burned alive. When Gyutaro found her, she was burned to a crisp but she was still alive, barely hanging onto life. So then they both got turned into demons.
Gyutaro is tye stronger half and is pretty much tye uppermoon six. Infact Gyutaro apparently had more potential than uppermoon five and four but he was stopped from achieving his full potential due yo his sister holding him back.
Around the end, they're in the afterlife where which leads to either hell or a chance at reincarnation. Daki is in her human form because she did not directly choose to become a demon and was instead turned because of her brothers descision. Therefore she had a chance at reincarnation. Meanwhile Gyutaro had willingly become a demon and therefore had no choice but to go to hell. But as you can see, Daki followed him to hell at the end.
33:50 it's because Obanai is one of tge Hashiras on the stronger side, either ranking fourth or third (not confirmed yet) while Uzui supposedly ranks 8. So they have a huge difference in their strength.

This is why upper rank 6 is my favorite of the demons, I think they're such strong characters, I don't think I've ever seen quite such an accurate portrayal of a dysfunctional relationship, how they develop, and how they are expressed. Their death legitimately hit me as hard as Rengokus did.
I especially love the scene of their last words on the ground yelling at each other, it especially gives such an amazing insight in dysfunction. Superficially you see someone screaming and insulting someone and you tend to take their words for granted, you wouldn't say those things to someone you love. If you pay attention a bit more you'd notice that it's clearly not meant.....but what's even much more important is the person being yelled at, that's who you should focus on. It's the absolute pain in Gyutarous face when Ume insults him that shows what she means to him that her words hurt him so, it's the pain in Umes face when Gyutarou retaliates that shows how much she loves him.
It really is such an amazing portrayal in how traumatic childhoods can lead to toxic ways to express yourself, where you communicate through lies and insults as a defense mechanism, bitterness and anger. Where you never learn how to be loving and positive.
It's also an amazing example of why I so hate the concept of hell, I find it so dreadfully immoral. Anyone could have turned out like them, had they been born in there position, meaning that the difference between heaven and hell is just a question of luck, and how can you be in heaven if your brother is suffering in hell? As long as there is a hell there can be no heaven for anyone who actually deserves to be there.

Tengen's toughest battle was having to be the Hashira that was focused on after how insanely popular Rengoku was and the impact he left. Did Tengen do well to stand out as a personality/mentor figure for the trio?
Daki and Gyutaro were both turned into demons but Gyutaro would usually stay dormant within her so he could be close and protect her if needed. They are both Upper Six as a pair but hers is more of an asterisk and Gyutaro is the true Upper Six. They did both get turned into demons. But Ume never made that choice for herself, so in the end she had a chance to go to the light. She even looked like her human self. But she chose to go with her brother rather than be separated. And Gyutaro didn't look like his human self until he walked into the fire with her. Also, they really twisted the knife on us when the insults being thrown at Gyutaro as a child were the same exact ones he threw at Tanjiro in the previous episode. And now we know why Ume acted the way she did as Daki, the wailing and crying, throwing tantrums. Because she's essentially still a 13 year old. Both of them were still deeply traumatized and because of how demons are, hurt a lot of people to try to make up for their misfortune. Been enjoying the reaction, excited for the next season!

So the thing about Daki and the crossroads is- she never had a choice in becoming a demon. Gyutaro made that choice for her, so when he told her to go away into the light- it was because she could have "gone to heaven" but she chose not to, because she wanted to be with her big brother.
As for why they are two in one i assume it's because they share blood or because they allowed each other to absorb the other without assimilating them into themselves.

Exactly what happened with Daki also being upper six isn’t fully explained but we can get a good idea from context clues and other information. The demon that helped turned Gyutaro also helped to turn Daki, as he mentioned that he’d give both of them blood and told Gyutaro that she would die soon to encourage his willingness to transform. Daki was burned and unconscious when that happened so Gyutaro made the choice to be a demon for her, which might be why Daki was human in the afterlife and had a chance to go to the light. Gyutaro was by far the stronger of the two and so would’ve started climbing the ranks. Gyutaro retained his attachment to Daki however, which Muzan saw as a weakness. Despite that Muzan and a few other uppers recognized Gyutaros potential to rise further up (likely to rank 5 or 4 had he stayed alive) and so I believe he made Daki an upper rank also as an investment in Gyutaros potential. As you’ll see next episode he only ever saw Gyutaro as the upper rank of the two of them so his keeping Daki was to keep Gyutaro happy (and maybe also to take advantage of her cuz ngl his interaction with her in the district was kinda sus).

I think, I mean this is just my thought, Ume wasn't Daki herself. In the scene of Gyutaro and Ume going into fire, basically this means they are going to the Hell, before that Ume was suggested to go toward the light which obviously means she could go to Heaven. If Ume was Daki herself, it can't be happening, or at least Wani-Sensei the author would never discribe that way I believe.
So I consider this way: Ume couldn't become demon and just died then, and Gyutaro ate Ume's body and consumed her ghost spirite in him. Gyutaro made Daki for Ume, that's why he said they're "2 people in one". If so, Ume herself is innocent so she could go to Heaven.🤔

Gyutaro was for sure a proper upper moon, and in theory if he hadn't been sharing power with his sister could have been stronger from how they talk about him in the manga. Then again, you can't underestimate how much of a durability boost it was having a tied life force and needing the double KO to be taken out for real, so who is to say
