    My GT3 arrived two days ago. I bought the regular GT3 so I could remove the wing and have a fixed duck tail on the rear. The touring as an electric wing that looks horrendous when it’s raised up and the additional weight of the electric motor raising it. I’m ordering this part from Fabspeed today!! Thanks for showing me how to remove the wing.

    I was under the impression that 911’s inherently have rear end lift at high speeds, not just a lack of downforce, hence the automatic rear wing on pretty much every model since the 964 to include the GT3 Touring. It would only really be an issue above 100mph, but with this car there’s a good chance they’ll be seeing those kind of speeds regularly.

    • @cw205mi16
      @cw205mi16 Před rokem

      You could be right, the wing must be there for a reason, but I think the spoiler is adding high downforce beyond what is required to keep the car from being unstable. The fixed lower spoiler in the body acts as a ducktail spoiler, which is more than the regular 992 has. The high rear spoiler is also adjusted in conjunction with front air flaps at the front, so if these are left alone in low downforce the balance shouldn't be too bad.

    • @supersumohh
      @supersumohh Před rokem

      @@cw205mi16 - the regular 992 has a spoiler that "folds out" (sorry for my english). The ducktail-like-spoiler in the GT3 is static and smaller than the ducktail of (for example) the 992 Sport Classic. Not sure, if its true, but i heard, Porsche send a letter to GT3 owners to give them a warning to NOT remove the wing. Eventhough it looks georgous - i wouldnt do it. For sure no issue at legal speeds in the US. But here in good old europe i wouldnt do it..

    I see this as value to someone who wanted a Touring and could not get one and would like to option to change the looks. Actual it makes more sense to buy a regular GT3 to have two different looks for the car. Also, who compares a Turbo S to a GT3, totally different cars.

      I think you left some things out of calculating the cost equation here.
      Investment in a 3D scanner that cost tens of thousands of dollars
      Investment in reverse engineering software that costs almost ten thousand dollars
      The engineer who did the work requires a salary
      The giant building where the vehicle, engineers, equipment, etc. are stored cost money
      The cost of the building maintenance, lights, etc. cost money
      The HP industrial printers that print the nylon parts cost 100k+
      The equipment to polish those printed parts cost money
      The equipment to dye those parts cost money
      The vehicle that we purchased for R&D cost significant money
      The cost to produce something is not merely the raw material that it is made of. Industrial MJF printing costs WAY more than $50 for a part as such, especially when you add post processing ,tumble polishing, color dye process, metal thread insertion, etc. into the mix. THEN on top of that you have to add the cost of the items I listed above.

      You can clearly see we did in fact scan this part with an Ametek Handyscan 700 - $29,000
      And these were printed on an HP Jet Fusion printer which enables us to get the high-quality finish, strength, and weather resistance that was necessary for the part.
