- This video describes the hike we took on 3-8-2017 in the Caballo Mountains of southern New Mexico where we ran across several guys mining for gold. We stopped to check things out and saw Mike Pung who is the inventor of the Gold Cube and the Banjo Pan amongst other things. We learned a lot in a short amount of time about finding gold.
Great video! I am totally impressed with the Banjo pan. Thank you for sharing your experience.
It is a pretty cool device. Leave it to Mike Pung to come up with something clever like that. Thanks for the comment!👍💰
Hey guys, I was just going through some lists and found one I had not seen, I have never seen this kind of mining before. how creative.
This is called drywashing, Mick. Similar to using a sluice in water only dry. The guys that hauled water our there had a Gold Cube which is a ramped sluice. They both work.
Thanks for that Tom, this opens a new avenue of ideas to drive my wife nuts with.

Maybe the map at the Superstition Mountains museum in Arizona, is actually a map of old Spanish and Mexican mines there in New Mexico.
Could be. I haven't seen the map. There is some interesting history and stories around those Caballo Mountains.
Hey Tom and Julie! Just came across your video! It's great you two made it out to New Mexico. I've been up in the Caballos in the past. There's a lot of gold placer claims on the alluvium, but there are a couple of hard rock mines I've had my eye on for a while. I plan on getting up there in the next couple of weeks, as I will be off from work and college. Have you heard of the Palomas Gap trail? It is an old toll road that passes through Palomas Gap that is wide enough for a Jeep to traverse it, and there are some large mines in that area. Maybe in the future, you two might consider revisiting the area. If you do, give me a shout! Frank has said nothing but great things about you!
This video is from a few years ago. I have family and friends in Albuquerque where I went to high school. We were just in Albuquerque last March for a visit although we didn't do any mine exploring.
Palomas Gap sounds familiar. There are some pretty cool stories of the Caballo Mountains and hidden gold from way back in the day. It's generally not where we do much exploring, but if we do we will certainly get in touch with you. Glad to hear that Frank has good things to say about us. He has said the same about you to us. Thanks for the comment, Justin!
@@TomandJulieMineExploring Albuquerque has definitely changed throughout the years! I lived there briefly from 2000 to 2001. I figured this area is far away from your stomping grounds, as many of your videos indicate you are farther west. If you do make it back, reach out, and we'll try to get together! Keep on finding those great places!
Planning on going up here eventually those views are gold! heh Thanks for sharing.
I hope you get out there. Thanks for watching!
PRETTY and Desolate" Perfect!
Thanks for watching, JD!👍🙂
Whay stop?????
What is it???
I'm not an expert on this area but I know there are some claims that we saw staked out and posted as to keep people from looking for gold there. So the answer to your question is no. There are however many large areas that are open for searching for gold. Most of what we saw were guys running drywashers and having some success. You should be able to get more information locally, maybe start at the state park office.
Can I pan anywhere in the Caballos mountain area without calling for permissions? I've never panned before and want to try it out, but I don't want to get arrested for trespassing or similar.
I know there are some claims that are posted to keep out. There are also many areas open to anyone. Ask locally to find your spots to look.
Did you ever find any gold?
How did they get those trucks further up the trail you could not?
Hi Al. That's because I was in a street vehicle and not an offroad rig. Thanks for watching!👍😁
@@TomandJulieMineExploring ok I thought they just had stock 4×4 pickups. Some come up on the east side of Caballo mountain. It's an easier passage. I had my Suzuki samurai on the same trail you two went on. I come down many times a year. But try and pan easier dirt now that I am a senior citizen!😊
The tanker trailer is for cattle, not mining. I know the area well and there are a number of cattle leases.
Thanks for the info,Todd. There were a few cattle in that area when we were there.
I believe it, there’s more gold in the oceans and river banks SOMWHERE in those country
Thanks for the comment!
Theres about 1 quadrillion $ of gold dissolved in the oceans waters- thats where my work lies ;)
I hope you figure out how to recover it.
BROTHER, IS THERE A WAY I CAN SEND YOU A PIC OF SOMETHING I FOUND ON THE SIDE OF A HIGHWAY ,IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE,NEW MEXICO WHILE I STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO TAKE AN EMERGENCY LEAK .... I HAD GIVING IT TO MY DAD, BUT GOT IT BACK IN A BOX , HE HAD IT THERE ALL THIS YEARS, HAD COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT IT ....
it a good 2-3 lbs piece, I've tried to donate it to a city near by, in Honor of My Father , to be put up in some sort of museum , but I believe it was the chief of police from that town who told me personally they couldn't accept it, cause it could be worth a lot of money and like I'm like a needy dude. I'm just a single dude on disability , so I thank him for it, but always had that thingy to know what it actually is, found it and gave it to my father like 30 plus yrs ago and it popped out in one of my father's old belongings he had in a box I had in the garage ....
@@robertrodz5115 Why do you want me to see this object if you don't mind me asking?
@@TomandJulieMineExploring buddy, you have no idea how hard it's been for someone to see it, it's weird , and I don't want to walk in a pawn shop or jewelry store with it , besides, I'm retired , and this turns out something important, I wouldn't mind letting y'all know where it was found , or more or less where, it's been years, but I do remember something that's impossible for anyone to have move or change
ps. I know it in my heart I can trust you, don't ask me why , I just feel it , maybe cause of what's happend to me ,but that's another story , ps. I've even tried for STATE UNIVERSITIES to look at it and they simply didn't care to see it .... not sure ,and with all do respect, know somehow u can please look at the picture ?? ... only 3 people have seen it in 30 yrs, not even my ex wife and daughter seen it .... heck I didn't even knew I had it or even remember about this thing till I found it recently
and I still have the emails from the one dude chief of police, including all the replys ands pics where he tells me he or the city can't accept it ...
hello there... nice video... i would like to do some gold panning.. may i please know how to contact these guys??
Kris, I think the guys in this video may have been in a club of some sort but I'm not certain. Mike Pung has a website with a lot of info, here is the link. goldcube.net/ Good luck panning!
