Thank you for making this video. I have a gilson S-16 that I’m currently working on getting running. It says variable speed on the hood but never knew how it works. Now I know it’s much like my jd214. Thank you.

Hello, I was given a Gilson S-Twin 18HP. We jacked up the rear end to fill the tires and when you spin one tire the other one spins in the opposite direction. How do we fix this so we can push it to load it? Any information on manuals would be wonderful also!

I have a 73 with a tiller that works and runs great...however the variable speed doesn't work ( and looking at the components I don't n see how it's supposed to work ) Plus the brakes need some sort of fix...can you help?

The variable speed system is very simple, pretty much the lever pushes an arm that rotates a bracket which tightens or loosens the pulley on the drive belt. That pulley is located on the gearbox above the transmission. If it needs fixed you will need to pull the transmission out of the tractor. When you say the breaks need fixed, do you mean they’re not working or the brakes are working, but they’re not stopping the tractor very well? here soon I’m gonna be replacing a transmission for a customer so I will try and make a video on removing the transmission as well as going over it and putting it back in the tractor.

My tractor stopped moving; can you tell me how to service my hydro transmission on Montgomery ward 16? It has an “S” frame. I believe it’s an early 70’s model it looks a lot like yours but it’s been painted over and I’m not the first owner. I can send you pictures if needed .

Yes I can help you out, what sounds like has happened is the neutral lever above your transmission has been disengaged, causing the tractor and not want to drive. It is used to disengage the transmission if you were to ever need to push the tractor. What you can do is lift the seat pan up and make sure the lever is pushed down.

I checked that already, the leaver is already pushed down. Where can I check the level of the hydraulic fluid?

@@jonathankraycar6394 their isn’t a dip stick on the trans. Unless their is a leak in the transmission the oil shouldn’t be a problem, in the manual it states that the oil should last the entire lifetime of the tractor. It should only be changed or added to if the transmission is torn apart and fixed. I’d recommend joining the Gilson tractor group on Facebook if you’re able to.
