  • Unboxing the Canwelum Rechargeable LED Head Torch. A ridiculously powerful light. Great power and the cheap cost make it hard to beat.

When I started this channel I said I was going to feature things that might not obviously relate to photography. I have not done this as often as I would like so I'm putting that right today.
Having a torch is essential for photographers who are working outside at night. Particularly for Astrophotography but also we are often trekking to locations in the dark to capture sunrises and sunsets.
Up to now I have been using a small yet power LED torch. It is decent quality but holding it in your hand creates it’s own restrictions. I have also been using a different less powerful head torch. It does a job but never satisfied I want more. More light. I want more power.
    Who wouldn't?
I be picked up this Canwelum head torch with a massively bright CREE T6 LED lightsource. In the video I unbox the torch and give an example of it’s brightness where it can even double as a video light.
Many torches like use normal AA batteries but this one uses rechargeable lithium ion batteries for longer use. It also has the ability to focus the beam which is extremely useful. The head torch also has two power settings with a more economical mode for longer use.
Advertised run time is not as good as hoped at 2-5 hours depending on the mode. However that is still going to be plenty in most situations.
I can't wait to get out and use this. Even better it comes in currently at £19 in the UK and about $20 in the US. I'll put the links down below for you to check it out and I'll see you on another video very soon.

Always great videos Adam, this made me smile, especially when you used it as a video light! Top job!

I dont fancy putting those batteries on my head.
I have had a couple of Cree torches and they are great value for money but like most cheap electricals I dont feel they are particularly safe.
If that thing gets hot, take it off. Lithium ion batteries can be a nightmare dont risk going blind.

Reviews on Amazon are pretty awful for this.

lol. This is a pretty old video. In fairness, after all these years, I still use this torch and it’s never let me down.

Very cool headset. I'm Still using a handhold Cree T2 torch but that is a very handy solution. With the bands I recon you could also strap it to stands, or whatever you have around to use as a light , Be careful with those leds though. They have a warning on them not to shine them in your eyes too much. Also tip for killer 2000 mah rechargable batteries.. the topcraft ones from Aldi. they are insane and only cost around 4 euro's for a 4 pack. Also an off topic question. Have you ever photographed Owles? And if so.. what would be the best way to do that.

+RArecordings Have you seen my video on capturing birds in flight? czcams.com/video/WMUVn2uHUs4/video.html
I talk about owls a little bit in this one.

I have, but most owls fly at dusk and night and are hidden during the day. Any thoughts on spotting and shooting them.

+RArecordings It's about tapping in to local knowledge of farmers and other birders in rural areas and finding out where their territory lies.
Some people are very reluctant to give up the info to guard against poachers.
Get into some local wildlife forums and interact a bit to build up a bit of trust before your ask.

Ok, thanks for the info.. I did a nightsky shoot 3 weeks ago and actually heard 2 owls at the location and didn't pay much attention to it at the time. I think I'm gonna pay it a visit later on :)

Good video. Although we use red light when it comes to astrophotography.

+jaspal chadha Thanks mate. I'm only shooting Astro landscape type shots. Not the masterful deep space stuff you're producing.
You're gonna have to come on at some point and let me interview you and let people see your work. Think people would really enjoy it.

This head torch is bright and that's it. Its ugly and insanely uncomfortable tota waste of money don't bother.
This torch will piss you off big time when walking and pushing on your forehead.
You do not need a super bright hed torch 200/300 lumen is more.than enough and for £15 you can get the nice small and super light and good looking black diamond and go outdoors atm. I have one and I love it.
Don't buy this rubbish head torch you can tell that its a Chinese ebay/amazon speciality
