I was on the fence for a good low profile 1/2 drive set. But now my mind is made up thanks to your review.
Thank you Friend!

Appreciate the feedback. For the price it’s a really good set. I think you will thoroughly enjoy. Please consider liking the video and subscribing for upcoming videos. 👍🏻
I love this socket set. Best $40 I ever spent.
Glad to hear you like. It’s an excellent price and quality is up there as well. Thanks for commenting 👍🏻
I picked up this set 2-3 weeks ago. I used it 2 days ago for the first time changing oil. They seem very nice, and well made. I think many applications could use a deep socket. But I really like this one.
Thanks for sharing. Yea deep sockets will still be more popular but there are times where you definitely need these. Crank bolts to be precise. 👍🏻
Working in the power equipment industry, I'm going to purchase both sets, removing blades on riding mowers using a floor lack with limited space will make it much easier, thanks for the great video.
Glad I could be of help. These really do make those tight jobs that much more bearable. Thanks again for commenting. Please consider liking and subscribing for more! 👍🏻
A win for Quinn!!
Haha well put!
I have the 3/8, and 1/2 from Astro Pneumatic. Astro Pneumatic also makes a special ratchet wrench with a ring inside that latches into the grooves on the drive end of the socket.
Thanks for the heads up. That would be a worth while ratchet to use with these then. 👍🏻
They are sold out everywhere and have been for several months, so good luck getting one right now, lol. Luckily, I grabbed one when they 1st dropped!!
yea astro is the actual maker of these sockets and they make a couple ratchet wrench options aswell for them . people also forget that astro makes a e-torx version that is great and normal torx but not with the wrench function
@@shaunclancey1107 Astro themselves or subcontracted to a Taiwan manufacturer???
@@thingsmen astro has the patent. i believe its a "world factory" product as in astro pays to "rent" a factory to make them in a alotted times like most things made by small companies that say "made in china, taiwan,or vietnam." for cheap manufacturing so the answer is vague cause it depends on your definition on making your own product but astro is the original brand and patent holder. this also is the reason brands like astro and olsa struggle to get stock cause they have to wait for there alotted times
I have all of the new Quinn master and impact sets, used the 25% Quinn coupons on them all except these two shallow sets. Very satisfied
That’s the way to do it. Well done!👍🏻
I know Capri's set is popular. Just for convenience, I'd go with Quinn. HF is close, and as you mention the warranty process.
I have Capri as well and these are just as nice and the warranty is about as easy as it gets.
Astro is probably the most popular variant of this tool
All probably made in same factory same metal
Capri's set doesn't allow you to use a wrench with them, so they are inferior, in my opinion. This set, the astro, husky, and the sunex are definitely more versatile than the capris.
Yeah and Astro has the single sockets available for purchase if you loose one. HF doesn't
I have the sunex set and they have saved me a bunch
I’m with you. Clutch sockets for pesky harmonic balancer bolts and the like. 👍🏻
Nice thick walls on them 👌🏼
Agreed. Nice and tick just like their well made Icon counterparts. Thanks for commenting. Please like and subscribe for future videos. 👍🏻
I like the shallowness of these sockets. I need a set.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality and price. Big win for consumers. 👍🏻
I have a pass through set of HF sockets and don't use them very often but when you need them nothing else works as well. And in the case of replacing front struts on a car they are indispensable.
I can see those working well on struts. Thanks for sharing!
Just got both sets...
Part number for 15pc Metric- 59770 $39.99
Part number for 11pc SAE- 59771 $29.99
Hope this helps someone...
I don't think they are on shelfs yet, so you'll need to ask to see if they have them in back
Thanks for updating. I realized I left some of that info out. I have a follow up video dropping soon that dives into those extra details. Please consider subscribing so you can tune in.
You want sockets to fit a little loose around fasteners, especially on an impact because it needs to shake and shock the bolt or nut. No fasteners are made to the same tolerances so you want sockets that will fit 99% of the tolerance range.
Correct 👍🏻
I really want to love these, but am having a hard time.
The concept is phenomenal. Unfortunately I haven’t had great luck with them. They really struggle to break free bolts with an impact.
I’m not sure what the material is made of, but they don’t hit like standard impact sockets.
I love that you can convert a 22 12 point wrench to a 6 point, but they fall out. Beyond frustrating if you’re working in a tight space.
They need magnets or somthing that keeps them tight in whatever application without having to buy “another specialized ratchet”.
I like that I can get a wrench around it, then put a impact through and help turn as I’m impacting. But beyond that, they need some improvements.
Appreciate your input. Yes they are on the lighter side so they won’t “hit” as hard as normal impacts. You could also take a small rag or piece of duct tape and wedge between the socket and the wrench. That will help it stay in place. 👍🏻
Harbor Freight really has to start thinking about setting up a super store.
If they keep bringing on product line they will start to run out of shelving space. lol.
What they really need is a damn tool truck.
@@Pippy1 they really do.
@@Pippy1 I think the reason Harbor Freight will never get a tool truck is because that would take away from the store profits. Every store has a quota for daily, weekly, and monthly. That also would take away from bonuses. Weather it is management, supervisors, and full-time employees.
@Tuckerjay2 the people working in shops arent the primary clients of harbor freight id wager. I see a whole lot more average joes who need a tool to diy than anyone else
Really nice. HF trying to step it up
Would have to agree. That’s good news for everyone. 👍🏻
I bought my set yesterday and i need to mention one thing ( check the set when you at the parking lot because i did yesterday n found out they put two 18 mm socket.
Appreciate the heads up. Yea you don’t want to be missing all your skipless sockets. 👍🏻
Look like nice sockets, but you'll need standard and deep sockets far more often. Get these last, not first. These have little room for much of the end of a bolt protruding past a nut. A deep socket is always my first choice.
I think most of us would agree. I use standard and deep the most but there are times that a shallow socket is really needed. 👍🏻
I hope they release a 3/8 version. These look good.
I think many of us feel the same. 3/8 are becoming much more popular and powerful. 👍🏻
Vevor
I use the Capri's, very solid
I got mine $60 for both
@@maddmechanic2386 that’s a great price.
The Astro pass through ratchet or 17/22 ratchet wrench has the spring clip needed for these. They have been around for a couple years, I use them every day and they are legit. Also sold under the Sunex Label
Appreciate the heads up on Astro/Sunex. That ratchet would be a great addition to this set. 👍🏻
You happen to have a part number on that ratchet?
@@danielt.147 #78300 is the 17/22 Ratchet wrench, the long handle ratchet that works with the 3/8 size sockets is a 78318
@@danielt.147Summit racing has the ratchet. Part # APT-78318 I BOUGHT 4 of them. You have to keep checking online because they always sell out after the restock. This year alone I've seen them sell out twice. 😮
In for part number
Have to be made by astro or whoever manufacturers them. Great set 👌
They appear to be very similar. Wouldn’t be surprised if the same Taiwan factory made them. Thanks for commenting. Please consider subscribing and liking 👍🏻
a rubber band in that groove on the hex portion will help hold this firmly in a box end wrench. dental brace rubber bands work good on the 17mm ends of the 3/8 drive set. i assume (but not tried since i have 3/8 drive astro set) a pony tail rubber band would work on the 22mm ends of a 1/2 drive set.
I’ve thought of that myself. Seen others use a latex glove as well. There are ways around it for sure. 👍🏻
really hoping for a 3/8 set
I would be surprised if we don’t see that set before summer. Only makes sense.
That's what I was hoping for as well seems like what I would have made first
@@james10739 1/2” is to go to historically for impacts. Makes sense to start there first.
Ya but historically an impact doesn't fit where you would need a stubby Definitely not a 1/2 impact
You can get the husky 3/8 set. It's what I have. Use it with the long hf 3/8 and 1/4 wrench and it's a really low profile set. It used to be like 30 bucks. Now it's like 39. At first I thought these were 3/8.
Like your channel.
So is the utility of putting a wrench on the back of these only for when you have a recessed fastener because otherwise wouldn't you use a 6 pt box end if you want that torque? Am I missing other scenarios?
Thanks for commenting. Box end will work if the fastener is flush but if it’s recessed, obstacles around it, or need an impact the. These really become handy. Please consider sticking around by subscribing and liking. 👍🏻
3/8 I would Consider Milwaukee's past through at least. The holes are a lot wider to accommodate bigger threatening, and they are also low profile.
That would be nice option for the threads to pass through. I can’t recall if the fasteners can pass through as well? That would however limit what drives you could use though.
I went to Harbor Freight to get a set last night, but was told they don't have them yet.
Hop on the harbor freight application and put in your nearest store location. Then look up the specific tool you want. It will show you if it’s in stock. A lot of times the workers don’t even know if they have them. 👍🏻
Home depot's husky line of tools also has those same sort
Thanks. Which ones are you referring to?
Damn. I bought these from Amazon under the Astro name for $55 last year. At HF with a coupon I could have saved $20 and have gotten a warranty. Damn damn damn.
Now you know going forward. 😉
Have they made a mid length? That would be great for suspension work.
Like a standard shallow socket?
You could probalby put an o-ring around those to stay in a ratcheting wrench.
Thought about that as well. Tank you for commenting. Please consider liking and subscribing!
Even more shallow if you just use the wrench that you suggest using as a drive!
Correct 👍🏻
these are astro rebrands husky also brands them at home depot
Haven’t seen the Husky ones yet. Thanks for sharing.
I wish HF would make 1/4" swivel impacts.
Give it time. I don’t think the demand would be as great for 1/4 but I’m sure they will want to eventually fill the void.
Ill be honest, if i gad two options both lifetime tools, one had a foam tray...im buying the one with the foam tray
Thanks for chiming in! I think many of us share the same sentiment. Please consider subscribing and giving a like 👍🏻
Does anyone know of a 22mm flex head ratchet wrench with a retaining ring to keep these sockets secure? Astro has one for their nano socket line, but it's 17mm.
Astro is supposed to have one.
@@thingsmen Found the part number 78300 a double box with a 17mm and 22mm, but no one reputable is carrying it. The only one I can find anywhere is 78318, which is 17mm.
A real bummer HF hasn't come out with a wrench for these. Probably going to force me into Astro's or Capri's 3/8 socket line so I can source a wrench.
I have the Husky 3/8 version, it’s easier for me to return and not get hassled at Home Depot than harbor freight in my experiences here
Thanks for the feedback! I might grab the husky version of 3/8” if Icon doesn’t drop their own version soon. Did you pick up the dedicated Astro ratchet?
They seem to be out of stock everywhere, at least here in California.
so if these are low profile and designed to get where an impact gun can't reach, why are they impact rated? or does their shorter size go better w/stubby impact guns?
They work great for impacts, ratchets and end wrenches. I would also rank them in that order for designed use.
So for 40 bucks I was stuck between the 7 piece swivel set or this would you say having the 7 piece swivel on a m12 stubby is more useful that 15 low profile sockets? Or does swivel really hold its ground
Tough call as they both have their place and distinct advantages. For me I use swivels a little more often but then again I could get these low profile sockets and a quality 1/2” swivel to put on them. 🤷
@@thingsmen so for the same 40$ you’d get the use from the swivels more than just having low profile
@@Miohelp for me personally it would be close call. However if in your position I might pick up the 3/8” and 1/2” dedicated swivel and then grab these short sockets. That way you get best of both worlds. Then next time around get the built in swivels.
Will these sockets fit the new Milwaukee low profile M12 ratchet
Thanks for commenting. If it’s a 1/2” drive then yes they should fit just fine. Please consider liking and subscribing so you can see similar videos. 👍🏻
If you are referring to the insider, it will of course work with the square drive, but the inner hex diameter of the removable shank is 14mm.
I got this 1/2 quinn set sockets they are pretty good for the price, i also ordered the astro 78318 and it DID NOT work with the 1/2 quinn set maybe a 3/8 set it might but if anyone knows of a ratchet that will work please let me know thanks
Astro Tools 78318 Long Flex Head Nano Socket Ratchet Wrench, DID NOT WORK WITH THIS QUINN 1/2 SET
Appreciate the heads up. Wondered if it worked or not with the Astro. 👍🏻
They should carry a pass through ratchet to fit these sockets as Pittsburgh did with their 3/8 set.
I agree. I’m willing to bet they will come up with a ratchet soon enough. Thanks for commenting. Please consider liking and subscribing! 👍🏻
@thingsmen Gearwrench had one but the discontinued it.
@@hemi08911 that is unfortunate.
i wonder if these are compatible with passthrough electric ratchets
Give them a try.
They won’t work with the Milwaukee insider 12v ratchet (14mm) and I don’t know what the inner diameter of the dewalt 3/8,1/2 20v ratchet but it is for sure much smaller than 22mm
@@jesssic476 thanks for the heads up. 👍🏻
You missed the part where most harbor freight stores will not warranty a set of you're missing anything. At least I know mine wont. So since no individual sockets are available for purchase. You'd be screwed. I'd personally pay a little more for a set that has the singles available if you ever loose one, and even if you do you can still get any other one warrantied.
Fair point. I know some people have had challenges with that. However my local store will break down a set for just 1 item.
It’s HF. They are inexpensive
It’s not that deep
@@Zeeangelofdeath correct. 👍🏻
@@thingsmenYes that's what the do. They don't give you a new set if you break one socket, they open a new set and give you the one you broke and after that they put the new set they opened on clearance shelf.
@@justinsgr8 yea I’ve seen it done both ways over the years so individual stores might be different.

4:57.. I've never understood why people compare the play on a ratchet. It doesn't matter, it's a socket going on a nut or a bolt. The play could be a good thing or a bad thing not necessarily always a bad thing. Technically, it doesn't really matter as long as it doesn't fly off the square while you're using it....☝️
To some it matters. Helps to demonstrate quality control and overall tolorances. If it doesn’t matter to you then no big deal.
It definitely matters as over time from repeated use it causes extra wear on the tool you are using to turn it.
@@AnthonyTufo No it doesn't matter...even after thirty years sockets still go on and stay on...
@@boosted2.4_sky that’s 100% false I invite you to my toolbox where I have several worn anvils I’ve had to warranty. Just because you don’t use your tools as hard as the next guy doesn’t mean this won’t cause accelerated wear. A loose fit is exactly that, a loose fit. Meaning metal parts will be contacting each other at high torque levels where on a quality socket there won’t be movement.
these look like (are) the same as Capri Tools low profile sockets.
They do appear to look very similar. Maybe a little too much…
I'd color fill that roll stamp
Yea it’s on the list.
They look like the Astro Pneumatics
Correct 👍🏻
They need to start putting chips on these tools so when we lose them we can find them
Always a good idea. 😉
7:22, why not just use a 19mm ratchet? kinda defeat the purpose.
You definitely could. However some fasteners are recessed or tucked around other items nearby, which would require a low profile socket like these. Thanks for commenting. 👍🏻
Your only gonna need the shorter socket once in a blue moon.
Correct. It’s a lighter duty socket and lacks mass to take off the more pesky fasteners. Thanks for commenting 👍🏻
Im old school and i just use a regular box end wrench but i agree the ratchet feature can help you out. @@thingsmen
The Quinn isnt gonna be any better than the Green handle Pittsburg. The main difference is the no skipped sizes.
Talking about the ratchets?
yes the ratchets are the same as pittsburg.@@thingsmen
@@mg8718 They really aren't. Pittsburgh stuff is made in India mostly, some China. Where the metals aren't hardened whereas on the Quinn and Icon items it is. You can feel the difference in their ratchets as you apply torque.
@@COBRO98 Pittsburg tools are made in TAIWON YOU DUMMY.
Why wouldn’t you just use a ratcheting wrench
Depends on the application torque needed and space provided.
Because that socket on my 1/2” right angle impact will be a very small package and break loose bolts a ratcheting wrench won’t!
@@peterdarlington4117 Correct. Might be hard for some to visualize, but if you work on cars/equipment a stubby is a must.
