    Yeah, I'm gonna call in the skepticism here.
    If we assume the dirt got there naturally, that looks like really caked on mud in there, so water should have been involved in there at some point, like its been in mud and rain. Theres no other way for there to be that much dirt on the inside of the console. But there doesn't seem to be any rust? Those screws looked awfully clean when you got them out, and the screw heads were still perfectly intact and not rusted out? And theres no rust damage on the circuit? No corrosion? Or on the exposed terminals for the controller ports? Those just happen to escape damage?
    If *any* electronics had really been subjected to the treatment that got that much mud on the inside for an extended period of time before you 'found' it, it would 90% be a write of, or require extensive special cleaning and replacement parts.
    But no sure, just take it apart and scrub everything up with soapy water, give it a 'test' with a multimeter, and everything's golden.
    Futhermore, if it really had been outside laying around, there's no scratches on the case? No dents or broken plastic? While you were removing the dirt, it looked almost like a brand new mega drive.
    I think this guy just took a working console, dunked it through some real muddy water, left it to dry, and then went and 'found' it.

      look at 9:01 and then look at the console he hooks upto his tv. apparently the sega logo can surivive being rubbed in dirt and cleaned up but all of a sudden once it's put back together it loses the logos and sutff on it. he did a simular thing with a gameboy advance swapped the shells after paining the legit shell the same color as the fake shell.

      @@dylanhunter5414 he's sanding and time skipping with really fin grit sand paper. if you look at the logo on the corner, it goes away on the next skip, and he takes the labels off the other half of the case. Not saying it's not fake or anything, just that that part in particular is reasonable. sanding w/ really fine sandpaper like that takes a long time to make a dent in anything. That's it's purpose.

    • @GGigabiteM
      @GGigabiteM Před 2 lety +1

      This isn't an emulator, it's what's known as a "Genesis On A Chip" or GOAC. GOACs go almost as far back as the Genesis itself when the Taiwanese started reverse engineering and cloning the console in the early 90s. Early clones consisted of multiple chips, but they eventually got everything integrated into a single ASIC. It wasn't terribly difficult to clone the Genesis hardware because it used mostly off the shelf parts with some slight changes, and most importantly didn't have any copy protection.
      There were multiple companies making GOAC ASICs of various quality and configurations that worked well enough to run most Genesis titles. Some, like this one, could run cartridge games too, most of them anyway. Some games use bank switching or do naughty things with the hardware that trip up GOAC chips, causing them to not work, but that's a relatively small number of games. Some examples are Sonic and Knuckles (the lock on technology that does patching, bank switching and other things), Super Street Fighter II (the only known official 6 MB ROM that uses bank switching) and Virtua Racing (has its own SVP coprocessor that does the polygon rendering).
      What's ironic about these early bootlegged consoles is that they paved the way for later legitimately licensed clones like the Radica that was sold in the late 90s/early 2000s, and many others since then. While there have also been clone consoles that used software emulation, these are much more expensive to make and often have poorer performance due to whatever CPU specced being too slow and the software emulator being junk.

It has the body of a Dual Shock controller, but the D pad and buttons of the Genesis 6 button controller, really weird. Maybe whoever made that abomination liked how the PS1 controller looked or felt and thought it was a great idea to make it into a Genesis controller lol.

    This video would be more accurately called: "I 'found' a dirty megadrive, that still worked, cleaned it and it still worked." Let's assume this is not mercilessly edited and he actually didn't just disassemble a working Mega Drive to create this video in editing. Let's assume the whole thing was like the video portrays it. There isn't any restoration going on. He just cleans it, tests a few circuits that he doesn't seem to have to actually repair. Then everything works miraculously.

      What do you think "restoration" means? The device wouldn't really have been used anymore had he not cleaned it as such as he did.
      Restaurateurs in museums or at archeological sites also don't just "paint over it" or "re-build everything" from scratch. Sometimes simply cleaning is sufficient. You'd be surprised ;)

    • @Rubashow
      @Rubashow Před 2 lety +2

      @@MistedMind I think it's really telling that you use art restaurantion as an example. Because there it's literally about paint. The thing is that unlike the guy in the video an artrestaurator actually removes paint, repairs the canvas, the frame and repaints broken areas. Regarding the console he doesn't even do that. He just cleans it. He shows it doesn't work. He cleans it and suddenly works again. Electronics that presumably have been lying in the trash for years to rot. At some point a processor is just mush. I can't believe that people aren't more critical ...

      @@Rubashow Well, art-restauration involves many techniques, some of which you describe.
      The guy in this video did NOT in fact try to switch it on in the beginning, he doesn't even connect it to the power-plug. So you seemed to pay no attention to that.
      "At some point the CPU is just mush"
      Why? Is silicon and plastics bio-degradable now?
      Revelation: It is not. The (µ)CPU in this case is even coated in a little blob of black coating, right next to the memory-chip where he does some measurement after the cleaning.
      Also doesn't just clean it, he replaces some parts, in this case it was the springs for the "module-plug-slot". Those were rather rusted.
      If you paid closer attention you can even see some residue of cleaning fluid and dirt on the inners before he reassembles the device.
      I'd say "believe me, I know what I'm talking about, because I'm a certified technician and even studied electro-engineering", but why would you believe me, I'm just some random internet dude ;)
      Also, it's not my job to convince you, but rather wanted to point out flaws in your arguments. And there are plenty ;)

    Amazing how instead of people enjoying watching the process, real or fake they focus on "debunking". It makes them feel smart. Lol Hey man keep up the good work, I do enjoy watching these it's calming.

    • @savagegecko4575
      @savagegecko4575 Před 2 lety +1

      Well I don't think it's that. It's not about "feeling smart"... it's more about being cheated and instead of seeing something that takes real craft, you see someone that doesn't show you the whole truth. Then expects people to view it in amazement and get more views. In reality people are watching these because they love the genuine feel of something that doesn't potentially work, been lost for years then seeing it brought back to life. I have seen other CZcams repair videos and this is the only chanel that don't seem genuine.

    Great to see things like this get a new lease of life. I see some people criticise whatever he repairs and restores, have they ever lived in this country and had to restore items? There is so much rubbish lying around there, that it is easy to find items to restore. Plus, how many items did he find and try to repair but were too badly damaged - you don't see those videos. Don't criticse someone over a restoration process that you have never attempted yourself.
