Ms Pam, the Bible says to not let the Left hand know what the Right hand is doing! What you do in your garden for your family is absolutely NO one elses business!! AND THERE YOU HAVE IT!😂
This
Absolutely!
Amen and Right on!
I agree, however I and others in Maine got angry when some folks wanted to limit what folks could grow and use, and so this law was fought for and won! This is what happens when angry people get up and vote en mass!
Yes Amen
This Government is totally out of control. They should remove "land of the free" from the anthem, because American citizens are not free lol.
that's not "the gov't," it's corporate profiteers using their influence on "the gov't." Make sure to see where your candidates money is coming from.
Hi there! Do you know about the Burn Where You Buy campaign? Do you know that the Spotted Latternfly has a symbiotic relationship with the Tree of Heaven? Does your area have an Extension Office or Master Gardener Program? If it does, you might reach out to the Answer Clinic there, and ask them if they have a seed exchange event, or why there might be laws against seed sharing in your area. I am learning what plants are native to my area, how plant quarantines are managed and conducted, and why it's important. Land conservation is important. Knowing that plant and soil diseases can be transferred is important.
@@raynemaxwell2000, but seeds? This doesn’t make any sense.
@@imaamericangirl1406 Seeds can carry diseases, especially if they haven't been processed for disease prevention (sometimes this means drying and freezing, sometimes there is more to it). Before I became a Master Gardener, there were a lot of things I didn't know, that are now basic knowledge. There's still a lot I don't know, but at least now I know who to ask when I don't know. Also I know how important it is that I ask.
We never were though, we just had the ILLUSION of freedom and I'm glad that folks are starting to see it now!
This is so ridiculous! If sharing my seeds is Illegal, I am going to be a rebel.
Same here
💯 rebel and live in a rural place.
I'm more concerned about GMOs in seeds.
Just assign another word when referring to them. We were taught meanings are fluid. Play the game.
Just leave packets of them on the fence. Allowing others to TAKE what they want without your giving them out?
Shoot I already have a business card overflowing with the nonsense labels they've applied to me and those of a like mind who don't go along with the bull crap. What's one more? "Rebel" is probably the tamest of the bunch!
Beware of the SEED POLICE. Good grief 🙄

nazis at Monsanto cant corner the market without making it illegal
They who plant the seed believe they have also grown the seed. Wawa grows the seeds Mama's name is a reflection of. They are selfish with their seed when it comes to feeding life Mama gives, so they keep their lying priests and politicians fed. They love the gospels and money of men, so build over fruits, not caring about their seeds, while telling Mama's what to do with our wombs. They are selfish and self centered
It is about CONTROL 🍅 🌽
Capitalism 😮
Exactly from those big food corporations
@@donnabu Capitalism is good, the best economic system in the world, but the desire for a few to control everyone else is terrible. They are not the same, by any stretch of reason.

it's not capitalism that's the problem; it is corruption. That's the same no matter what form of gocernment is in charge.
Some laws are meant to be broken and this is definitely one of them! I will not comply, and neither should anyone else! Enough is enough!

I live in California. I was not aware of this seed sharing law, but I know that in my community packets of seeds are given away at farmers markets, and I even had a coworker that would go around, passing out seed packets at the beginning of spring, in preparation for planting that was just her yearly practice was to pass out seeds…nobody ever said anything against it. Nobody ever brought up the illegal seed sharing aspect, so this is a shock to me. I’m going to look into it further, and I thank you for bringing it up.
EDIT TO ADD: upon further research, it appears that the bad actors behind these restrictions are Big Ag-Monsanto, DuPont, Bayer, and the Koch Brothers among others…the creators of GMO seeds or it’s technology…in other words, the groups who would have the most to lose if GMO crop monopolies were threatened. So disgusting!
That's why it's best to stick with "organic" seeds as much as possible because ALL organic food stuff is non-GMO and is not monetarily regulated under the jurisdiction of those companies you mentioned.
HOWEVER__if people want to share seeds from plants they grow, then their neighbors must be growing "organic" as well. Otherwise, when the plants are 'naturally' pollinated it's possible their plants could be pollinated with GMO plants from their neighbors, which does fall under the 'jurisdiction' of sharing/selling/bartering without compensation to those companies__which is THEN illegal, because [they] aren't getting compensated. 😣
Re: the heirloom varieties, I was pretty sure people were being encouraged to grow/share more of them to continue the lineage so they wouldn't die out.
When it comes to giving total control over the world's seeds/crops to these conglomerates WE ALL need to be ''rebels"!
🙏😇🌱🌿🌻🐝🐓🌳🌎💖🙌😺
That’s not their motivation… they are against small agriculture because they want every person on the planet enslaved to these few monopoly companies. You will have to get all your food, water, shelter, healthcare, and law enforcement from the wealthy one percent and if you do anything else, it has to be illegal. You should look up “Grazon herbicide in cattle manure”, if you really wanna flip your lid about what these big ag businesses are doing to destroy small ag. Hint… Stop using any products with manure and don’t buy manure from your local farmers for your fertilizer. Do not buy hay. if you raise livestock that needs hay grow it yourself or find a source of organic hay that has not been treated with herbicide. Find another way to amend your soil. My front flower bed where I added miracle Gro soil is ruined for at least a decade. Only thing that will grow well in there is grasses. So that’s why I expanded my chicken coop with 22 chickens now, so I have plenty of fertilizer from my own flock. You can’t trust anybody anymore. You must be self-sufficient to the best of your ability or you’re not gonna make it. I hate to be the doom and gloom police, but here we are. ☮️
Right here! These giants are bad actors so that they can continue to "force" farmers to purchase from them every year.

There are some documentaries on Netflix about this. It’s bad
The whole local garden club here freely shares seeds. I guess we are a seed-gang, full of crimes.

Thankfully in Canada we still have seed libraries and seed swap events.
Here in the UK too
Give Herr Trudulf time.
We have them here in Michigan also.
Yea, we have them in Massachusetts, but I didn’t know in other US states it’s illegal
Not for long under Castro Trudeau
Well, well, well..... I will NOT be complying with this in any way, form, or function. As a Texan, they can kiss my fertilizer! 🤣🤣🤣I will give my seeds to whomever I wish. Times are way too hard for Monsanto to dictate what people can & cannot grow. Maybe that's just me, but that's how I feel.....😠😡 Thank you so much for sharing the information though. If I'm going to be going around breaking laws, at least now I know which ones I'm breaking. 💖💖💖
This is ridiculous. Thanks for sharing.
Just saw your video and here's an answer - give your neighbour the fruit of your labour and they can get the seeds that way. Show them how to save seeds, govt can't do anything about it that way. Of course if you want to send seeds further away like a group of us are doing in Canada, then I guess it would be more difficult! Blessings from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
I've heard about that. In some places, it was even 'illegal' to even HAVE A GARDEN! On that part, communities thought it ruined the 'esthetics' and 'so-called property' values!
HOA's are like that, every house needs to match.
@debbiethomas2622,
Mostly that's an issue with HOA's, main reason I seriously dislike them. With re: to regular homeowners' yards, that pretty much refers to the asthetics of 'front' yards__what you do in your 'back' yard is your own business. 😛💖🙌😺
Don’t move where they have HOA rules against gardening.
I would never even consider an HOA property. Refuse to buy a house spend thousands of dollars and be told what i can and cant do with said property. Thats the most ignorant idea ever. HOA's are a racket.
Wow. We share seeds here all the time. Even the librarys here give them out in the spring.
@@MomeGnomeIt's the licensed seeds from a distributor that you take from your plants. Several years ago in Saskatchewan a farmer was sued for not planting seeds obtained from a dealer. He argued that they were blown over from a neighbors field and lost.

Hey one of my subscribers just sent me this video because I do a sweep swap every season and I give seeds to families in need. We have sent out over 560+ seeds to families in needs to start gardens. This is such an over reach by the government and truly breaks my heart. Helping people grow their own food is how you stop families from going hungry. You have to teach a man to fish not just give him one. Thank you so much for this video.

I love seeing this. As a criminal justice major, I love a good legal challenge. Especially being in the state of California. The funny thing is the seed sharing law can be compared to the laws we have about adultery. The courts don’t care to enforce. We have some of the biggest seed selling companies right here in the state including patented heirloom seeds. This only means if you grow it and sell it you must tell where it’s from, much like an artist who uses copyrighted material. Everything is really a sellers market. Meaning I will allow them to break the law if the state can tax it. Then well over look it. Much like the states that allow cannabis. It’s legal in states but illegal federally speaking.
I appreciate this video. Don’t stop sharing seeds. Share share share. Because he’s I look seeds can be found at Walmart. Lol
Very very well said! Thank you
Thanks for Sharing eye writing this down
"It's illegal but no one enforces it," is not legal protection. It might be fine now, but we don't know how things can change in the future. (Eg it's not impossible that some time in the future, AI cameras can determine plants that are patented and geolocate them and put a lien on the property owner.)
Best is to grow unpatented heirloom plants and save your own seeds.
Yes- they get it on the books now so at some future time which seems right to them the CAN begin attempting to enforce it. Not raising a stink now because it won’t affect me yet is the way they will get away with it later
Okay another law to control our freedom. Well I guess I will just have to give the plant to a person instead of the seed.
The Dallas Public Seed Library is still alive and well
In 2015, Minnesota and Nebraska passed seed sharing exemption legislation to protect and promote seed libraries and other forms of non-commercial seed sharing.

All I know IS .. this world today 🙄 Crazy.
Making seed gifting illegal is criminal
YOU SAID IT!
That’s insane! I’ve known folks who’ve been sharing seeds for decades.
Me too.
Unfortunately for the people, this control goes much deeper and wider than imaginable. The things you buy are still controlled by the maker or company. It's kinda scary when you start looking, and then it gets worse. Be careful out there, people, we've got to look out for ourselves and each other more than ever these days. Great video, thank you so much:)
That's going too far and the government's never going to have that kind of control over me. I live in farm country, and I'll do what I please. People around here share plants, cuttings, starts, and seeds all the time.
We have a lot of small organic artisnal farms here that only use Heritage seeds that are not distributed or controlled by giant agribusiness seed companies.
THAT is the way to keep them out of your life! 🌱🌿🌻🐝🌳🌎💖🙌😺
Berkeley has a seed library - you "check out" seeds, grow, collect seeds, and "check them back in."
Their mission is important: they are trying to preserve unpatented food plants _before they die out._
The caveat there is you must keep scrupulous logs of how you grow them. 🌱🌿🌻🐝🌳🌎💖🙌😺
This is WILD!!! Thanks for sharing my Dear!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🪶🪶🪶
This is absolutely crazy
What?? This is news to me.

Anything that helps us be self sustaining they will make a 'law' against it.
I am not at all surprised by these laws. After watching your wonderful video my memory was jogged. I remember around 2020-2021 there were news stories about people receiving random seeds from China that they didn't order. As you'd expect even with laws on the books the government failed to mitigate the problem.
It is true that patented GMO seeds are often protected by intellectual property rules, meaning farmers must pledge not to save them and replant. Monsanto says it has sued about 150 farmers who it claims broke these rules over the past 20 years.
Their seeds are trash!!!
It is interesting how they went from floor to seeds. Someone needs to sue them!
Boycott Monsanto.
Yes but not for seed sharing-most of Monsanto stuff is seedless.
They were suing neighbor farmers for copyright infringement when Monsanto plants cross pollinated with the other farmers plants.
Also universities used to hold seeds in reserve and local farmers shared from plants they grew.
They were suing small farmers who hadn't even planted their crops. The wind blew and cross pollinated their farms accidentally. It ruined the small farmers.
Thank you for this information! ❤ I had no idea! It makes me want to go out and plant & scatter seeds EVERYWHERE!

When planting our garden and starting seeds, sometimes we would have too many plants. Our family would go to the forest and plant them there. Many homeless in the forest would reap a humble harvest.
This law had been in effect for decades now. But it's so outrageous 😞😞😞
Back in the early 2000s i read a gardening magazine that had names of people in the US that you could swap seeds with.
That's unfortunate 😕. It's hard to imagine not being able to share seeds, TFS!
We can fight it. Look into the Organic consumers association.
@@gosteampunkdotcom Thanks for the info 🌱!
If you control the land and whats grown on it you control the people.
That's crazy, so let me get this right, you can sell them and you can buy them but God forgive someone for gifting seeds that someone could use to feed themselves and their families. Just down right sad😢.
I never knew this my brother and I share tomato seeds every year 😮I can’t wait to tell him about this.Have to check out Virginia seed laws
Guess I'm a law breaker...🤣
Nothing better than spending time with you! Your report is JUICY! JUICY! JUICY! I knew about patented seeds. Starting new trees, roses and other perennials from cuttings is a bigger problem. Not allowed with new or old patented plants. As far as gmo seeds, don't do that anyway! Only a few vegetables, one apple tree that doesn't brown when cut and field crops. Crops nowadays look like forests compared to what was grown when we were very young. Tell us that feeding the world necessitates. Gmo seeds can cross with other plants including wild ones and impart a natural insecticide. We need our butterflies. Best to let them keep them in containment. Seeing corn as big as young trees is amazing but not desirable when it escaped from a lab. Hybrid seed usually does not grow true to name. Open pollinated is ok to save as long as it is pollinated by its own namesake plant. Sneaky laws can surprise the unaware. Thank you for this report!
As long as the seeds I share are not patiented (developed by a seed company, college ag breeder or even a small grower that does their own), Ill be sharing.
in general, if you are being wholistic and natural with your farming you will not want any patented seeds to begin with. Often times they are less nutritious and higher in harmful elements as they have been modified to increase their resistance to bacteria and other threats.
But there is a general rule for food... if the germs and insects don't want it... neither do you.
Laws don't mean very much if we ALL say no 💕

Very informative. I knew about California. But, wow. An eye opener for sure!
I also got wildflower mix seeds in Alberta one year from a major cereal company , to support the bees. Who knows where those came from, what was in them, whether there might be weeds or plants that could be toxic to neighbourhood cats, or whatever else among them. But they were shipped all over North America, as far as I know.
It’s my understanding, at least in Montana, that they were trying to control the dispersion of GMO plants. The valley I lived in prided itself on being a non-GMO growing area. The pollen from the GMO plants spread to the non-GMO plants and changed them. I had no idea of the seed law though, but can see where the “good intentions” come in.
It is smart to prevent cross contamination. The law should make that distinction though.
Myself & surrounding neighbors all grow organically. Each of us contribute to our tiny MT town's food pantry. Even if none of us grew a garden *dumb idea* it wouldn't stop farmer squirrel who planted corn for our yards this summer & decided next year's crop will be peanuts. We're also right along the river, Montana in general is super windy, & what about all the birds that drop seeds??
When MT takes care of their human trafficking issues and meth houses....then they can incarcerate farmer squirrel. Take care, ~ Covah
Where government is concerned... "unintended consequences" are the intention. If they were not... they would fix the part of the law that allows those "unintended consequences"... yet they rarely do... and many times when they do... it is only to fix the "unintended consequences" that benefit citizens.
@@covahsmusicvault8953 I mentioned "good intentions," not that it's necessarily a good idea. Not every law that passes is thought through very well. This is one of those. I'm all in for incarcerating the deer thieves though 😅 All the best! ~Georgia
@@georgiawild4332 Luckily the deer stay clear of our yards. I think it's the high fences & the 5 dogs between us. We're also very close to the Yellowstone River where it's not uncommon to see 100 or so deer cross when the tide's at its lowest point. Squirrels are the issue in my community. Little suckers will dig out plants in flower pots so they can hide/plant their own goods... hence why I refer to ours as *farmer squirrel.* He's totally fearless of dogs no matter their breed.
Honestly, I doubt most laws that *would benefit* us citizens are even considered. We have a store called Runnings here that had many of their veggie starters mislabeled this year. I wasn't affected because I grow my own from saved seeds. I also grow plants from seed for others. All I ask is for some seeds from the plant I grew for them. I'm a *mad scientist* when it pertains to generations of what I grow and/or share. I enjoy growing plants that are not supposed to grow here. Many folks in my community have started their own organic garden's because of the help I've offered them. Besides my dogs, gardening is my sanity. Our state has a high suicide rate, my goal is to help shut-ins such as myself find a way to heal through gardening.
Positive vibes for you too, Georgia. I'm barely surviving all the impairments I have. Planning each season's garden is what gets me through the worst of news and/or pain. To me, that knowledge and tools are worth sharing. I've NO plans on changing.
Sorry it's me again. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THE LOVE OF INFORMATION AND HUMANITY❣️

I'm so shocked to hear this! I live in one of "those" states, but we've had a local seed library for the past few years. Gotta go check.
I'd never want to break the law! But then, how would I have known (until the first video I see on your channel)? And how would it be enforced? You'd think we were growing illegal plants, like certain "medicinal" ones. I think the seed industry lobbyists were successful with lawmakers.

I am thankful for where I live, the State of Maine says everyone has the right to food, here’s the law in its text, “Section 25. Right to food. All individuals have a natural, inherent and unalienable right to food, including the right to save and exchange seeds and the right to grow, raise, harvest, produce and consume the food of their own choosing for their own nourishment, sustenance, bodily health and well-being, as long as an individual does not commit trespassing, theft, poaching or other abuses of private property rights, public lands or natural resources in the harvesting, production or acquisition of food.”
That is too crazy. I save seeds, and I plant everything and share veggies with neighbors. Why are we even living in a world that controlling and crazy?
If you can't give seeds, then give the seedlings, then they grow it, and they got their own seeds. What about the massive seed storing facility in Brussels or one of those Northern countries
One interesting fact__the EU banned GMO's more than a decade ago, YET, has allowed Bayer(aka Monsanto)to establish their business in one of those countries, producing GMO products for the USA! Go figure! 😣

While we are much more likely to share seedlings rather than seeds (also probably illegal some places), it seems to me that this business illustrates my belief that "There's no deal so good that someone won't try to make a racket out of it." It's all about the bucks! By the way, did your hardiness zone change? We got moved from 6B to 7A, which, considering the past few growing seasons, I coulda told 'em that!
Yes and I have a video coming out about it.
Love you, Miss Pam! I was aware of seed laws, but I thought they only applied to businesses, not private exchanges, so this was informative to me. I should think that, as long as people are aware of these laws, and handle giving or swapping seeds responsibly, that they would have little to no application to the average person, anyway, at least, that is my hope. Unfortunately, there are always those controlling and manipulative opportunists who like to stir up trouble on either side of an issue, so, as you said in your own way, time will tell how this will go heading forward. It is discouraging, that our government is so controlling, that we cannot even freely share with one another! We do not want to end up falling into a social/communistic dictatorship! The more control and freedom that we relent to the government, the closer we get to this becoming a reality for our country! God, help us!

My issue is the planting soil I buy from the garden shop only to find more weeds sprouting up in my garden beds. Thank you for sharing.
You can "cook' the soil to sterilize it. Some use direct heat but some use ag tarps pinned over the soil for a few months to kill off weeds.
What doesn't dissipate is any glyphosate or other chemicals that could be in it. If you can, make your own soil by composting food scraps, leaves and worm castings or chicken / rabbit / horse manure- poop of some sort. Aging is important depending on type.
Great information thanks for sharing 👍👍
My pleasure
As Salaam Alaikum,

There are also laws in some states where it is illegal to grow your own food, to catch rainwater, and if you are able to grow your own food if you have an abundance of tomatoes, and no cucumbers; however your friendly neighbor has an abundance of cucumbers, but no tomatoes it is illegal to barter.
You can still raid your neighbors garden, mutually
No. This is the barter of food.
Because, unbeknownst to most, bartering falls under the category of taxation on said goods! 😱💩😒
@@Sunweaver593 Raiding is illegal. Being wiser than the serpent in his falling world you still have to obed by his rules. This is where building cooperatively and developing has to be legally done
wow I never would of expected to need this information, thank you.
the powers that be can't outright ban homesteading or farming so instead pass ridiculous laws and regulations making it very difficult to be self sufficient.
thank you Ms. Pam! fortunately here in rural upstate NY we have a "Right To Farm" law..
Many of the Irish people that ended up as prisoners were taken to Australia as prisoners. Australia as a penal colony. This all started with a bad potato seed!!!!
NOW DO A VIDEO ON WHICH STATES HAVE MADE IT ILLEGAL TO CATCH RAIN WATER. PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
On my to do list!
Wtf?! America' is effing NUTS
Like so many other things catching rain water being illegal is all about the "bucks"...keeps you from using their "chemical laden " water you pay for

Welcome
Saw your youtube channel for the first rime today, thank you. I have subscribed. Most people don't have any idea about his law.
Between 1980 and 2014, Monsanto alone bought 60 independent seed and genomics companies. All told, over 200 commodity seed companies were either acquired or went out of business during the 1990s and 2000s, USDA found.
These growing conglomerates applied more restrictive intellectual property protections to maintain monopoly control over desired genetically engineered traits, like glyphosate resistance, and the seeds that carry them. Top seed companies switched to more restrictive utility patents instead of USDA-run plant variety protections (PVPs), which, unlike utility patents, grant limited exemptions that allow seed breeders and researchers to develop new varieties from protected strains.
The U.S. is one of just four countries that allows utility patents on plant varieties and not just specific genetic traits. Plant varieties are not well suited for utility patents because it is hard to prove that any given characteristic, like specific disease resistance, is truly a “new” invention that does not already exist somewhere in nature. When companies patent plant varieties using utility patents, they can shut down ongoing research and prevent future breeders from working with their seeds or genetics for decades.
Exactly
Thank you for an informative comment. Unfortunately, it isn't a common sight. With factual foundation, we can make informative decisions.
Ridiculous!!!!
Wow!! I didn’t know that you garden as well! You are amazing!! You’re in the same zone as I am.
