Hi Shane - your uploads have inspired me to start scale modelling again after 25 years. Tried the winter and pea dot camo and was really happy with the results as you made it so easy to follow. Keep the tutorials going as they are really appreciated and enjoyable - thanks - Steve
thanks very much for the very kind words, such comments really want to make me do more tutorials as it means they are being useful! thanks again and happy painting :)
Hello Shane, I want to thank you very much for your videos, I've always struggled with painting figures and just recently I came across your channel . Your work is absolutely amazing! You are truly gifted my friend. Your work has reignited my interest in painting 1/35 scale figures and I'm going to give it another go. Once again thank you for inspiring me. Please be well and safe.
Thank you very much Frank! I hope you and yours are keeping safe in your part of the world, and that these times pass us by soon! I am really glad you are enjoying the painting videos and that they are proving useful, I hope to do a few more in the coming weeks!
Shane to the rescue! Just getting to the figure stage of my RSO diorama in winter dress. Thanks again for sharing your talents Shane!, your making this hobby much more enjoyable! Pat out in Southern Calif.
Thank you so much for the tutorials! The one thing that has always kept me from doing a vignette, or a small diorama. Was the figures. Now I'm going to give it a try. Thanks again, Shane. Keep up the great work!
Oh brilliant ! hope you have fun with it, figures are very enjoyable once you get into them, if you run into any problems or need any advice don't hesitate to drop me a line, as I am always happy to be of help :)
hi Shane it worked face looks more real now also do paint over the face with flesh if you have mustache great video you have giveing me hope now I feel more convenient now made some mistakes at the start at to fling some models in the bin I think the more you paint the more you learn
Hey Kevin ! When it comes to painting facial hair I tend to paint the face as per normal then come back and paint in the beard/stubble or mustache :) glad your enjoying the painting more, each figure mistakes or not teach us something new each time and improve our skills
Hi Shane, another excellent tutorial. I'm starting a diorama with a SD.kfz 250 and some figures in winter uniforms so your video has been very helpful.( and what is the haunting music you play in the background) Regards Martin
Honestly ,from all the tutorials Shayne really takes the time to explain and very patient good job Shayne I’m wondering what kind of brushes do you Use ?
thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it, was a bit unsure if having three subjects in would video would be too much, so I am glad people didn't think so. Shall have more painting videos to follow thanks, Shane
Great tutorial! I think this may be way out of my league, but with tutorials like this, I might just be able to pull it off. My local model shop has many figure kits, and it might be worth buying a couple as practice platforms. Regards, Solomon
Hi Solomon ! Really glad you enjoyed it ! Best thing is to always get a few figure sets are reasonably priced to practice with, it a few tries but with a little patience it falls into shape :) thanks my friend :)
I drill and a glue a paperclip into the feet of the figures and pin them to the wood, failing that I superglue them to the wood block with a tiny amount of glue
Lol right! Just as soon as I put my shoppe back in order. Got it all tore apart (more efficient floor plan) my shoppe does vintage VW's, armour (by the hammer) and of course dioramas.
Great tutorial.Do you know if the figures that come with Tamiya Nashorn depicted wearing winter white camo are wearing reverse camo?I want to paint them and the vehicle in camo, not white.
indeed, as you well know white dries very quickly if you apply too heavy layers it will begin to form a texture and undo your work, so thin layers is key
Hi Al ! the figures are from Dragon's 88mm Flak 36 set, but can be bought as a separate kit, I just replaced one of the heads with a resin one from Alpine
Hi Arthur ! in this case I did not, however when it comes to oils and enamels I always do. Though it is no harm to add gloss if you wish before you apply any wash to break surface tension
Of all of the videos that I've watched on painting model figures this is by far the most informative.
A joy to watch.
Kenneth Holmes cheers glad you found it useful!

Glad it helped! keep up the great work!
Those Germans turned out awesome. Great job, very helpful hints and techniques. Love the look of the camouflage helmet cover
Thank you very much!
Very nice .....white is very tough to paint effectively without building up the layers.
Thanks for posting!
it can be done with minimum steps using light grey's before going to white its not too bad :)

Ok that'll do. Very impressive. Sub'd...
thanks Steve welcome to the channel ! stay tuned for more figure tutorials that are in the works !
Shane :)
Great video Shane. What series of the Winsor & Newton Cotman brushes do you use (i.e, 111, 222 etc)?
Hey Norm, the Brushes I use or normally no.00, 0, 1, 3 I find those sizes tend to suit most jobs in figures we are likely to fun into :)
Thanks for the reply, but W&N have so many types of Cotman brush I'm unsure what series to buy. I think the 222 Designer might be it, but not sure?
so I checked my brushes for the no.1-2 I use rigger brushes and the other 222 rounds
great job))!!
cheers mate !
Make paint more thinner , so the transition between highlights and shadows will be smoother
indeed, as you well know white dries very quickly if you apply too heavy layers it will begin to form a texture and undo your work, so thin layers is key
Also nice tutorials by the way just checked them out !
thanks i like your tut. too :) i subscribe it :)
How you make this nice image on the miniature video ?
thanks mate, just subbed you too :)
can never have too many figure tutorials ;)
What figures are these mate? Awesome work sir.
Al
Hi Al !
the figures are from Dragon's 88mm Flak 36 set, but can be bought as a separate kit, I just replaced one of the heads with a resin one from Alpine
Nice 👍
thanks mate !
Im doing oporation marter. 1941 dragon models
before you add your wash do you apply a gloss coat first?
Hi Arthur ! in this case I did not, however when it comes to oils and enamels I always do. Though it is no harm to add gloss if you wish before you apply any wash to break surface tension
What is the black paint that made them all the soldier in the end?
citadel abanddon black
What should I use for grey greatcoats?
Stormtrooper Films German Great coats aren't really grey but a field grey so I would go for vallejo fieldgrey
Shane Smyth - scale models Ah. Thank you.
no worries mate let me know how you get on !
Shane Smyth - scale models also, what should I use for the highlights? (For field grey)
Blitzkrieg WWII I would mix some sunny skintone with the fieldgrey for highlights
I cosomized. My panzer figure instead of. A 🔫 i put a rifle installed becaze the pidtol had a nsdty habit of pinging off
