Welcome to the NHL; where an offside call from 8 minutes before a goal is reviewable, but stuff like this isn't
*That was not the only missed call either. A puck was airborne and did not touch the net and they whistled that dead earlier. There was another missed slash on Haley also. So many missed calls. It's been nasty all year officiating wise and it's continues into the playoffs. Unacceptable.*
PERRON threw the puck out after the sharks were killing them 2-0
The GMS make the rule changes, it's not the refs fault if a play isn't reviewable.
Hardcore American Gamer Perron delay if game missed as well as a blatant Headshot on Braun by Blais but this overtime one was the worst by far. Horrible officiating.
This is *all* on the league and the owners/GMs. They won't let the refs call for video review to check things like this. Compare that with rugby where the on-field ref can call for the video ref whenever he wants. Plus the crowd gets to watch in as the ref looks at the play on the big screen.
San Jose Sharks are now only 6 non reviewable calls away from their first Stanley Cup.
I'm a Sharks homer.. I'll admit. I bet they can do it in 3 though :)
Keith McClane Took at least 6 during the knights series...
Like the Perron play? Oof.
We sure are :) I do agree that could have been a hand pass tho
@@JesterRace139 Cannot be done in three. Two wins here, need two more for this series. Need four in the final to win the cup.
Literally cannot be won is less than six games.
OP was making a joke.
OP is salty.
That's okay, cry those salty tears for us, OP. Sharks thrive in saltwater.
Holy hell, and when I thought the officiating in these playoffs couldn't get any worse.
every year lol
Yeah. How about that can opener on Meier that brought him to his knees? It's called a trip. If he had not been tripped perhaps he would have used his stick. Didn't see a delayed penalty on that one. How exactly are the refs winning this for San Jose?
@@tysonl79 didn't say that, just saying the officiating has been atrocious, something that I'm sure you could agree on.
tyson they are winning it for San Jose because the first round down more goals than they can get, second Avalanche get called for an offside that doesn’t even look offsides, and now this. Have fun winning it guys you real deserved it. NHL just felt bad that the Penguins kicked your asses in the finals 2016

NHL should fire every referee in the league and start over.
Not Wes McCauley tho.
Agreed you cant sack Wes.
Wow, you're totally overreacting Man. It's so hard to tell until it's slow what happened on that play. I'm so sick and tired of people complaining that the referee robbed their team of a win !!!! In this instance the Blues had 60 Minutes to win the game in regulation and didn't.
Nick Big Mann you can’t deny that was a missed call and bad goal though....can you?
Baby Shark do do do do do do Baby Shark Shark Shark
The whole game wasn’t officiated very well but wow that’s an embarrassing missed call
Even the commentators on the radio were calling out three of the refs by name. They were pissed.
they must've been blind. puck went in the net, thus no hand pass.
I’m a Sharks fan and I feel rotten about this win.
How is an OT goal in the western conference finals not reviewable....something needs to change.
ovichamp Any goal in any conference of any period*
During the playoffs it should be ESPECIALLY REVIEWABLE... ridiculousness
If I was a Sharks player I would pick up the puck with my hand and drop it past the goal line for a goal, and see if they call it!
Nobody knows about throwing pucks in nets better than the Blues!
PROBABLY NOT 🤪
Sharks have already had 2 legit goals completely taken away and turned into penalty kills. So I’m not sure if your strategy would work...
@@z.w.7292 Marc Bergevin thaw it into his own net against who other than the Sharks. Never seen anything like it before.
So the Sharks benefit from a questionable 5 minute major against Vegas that the league apologized for, successfully reverse the tying goal for the Avs on a reviewable offsides infraction, and now got away with a hand pass that resulted in the OT goal because that is not a reviewable infraction. Wow.
Avs got a free goal on a non icing call
Vegas gets a goal on a high sticking no call sharks get a goal disallowed on a fake goalie interference call
Blues got away with a blatant elbow to braun could of been a misconduct
4 goals on a 5 minute pk is inexcusable
@@209alfredo2091 Blais can still be suspended for that though and it will be reviewed unlike the game winning goal in game 3
@munky 306 well, using your same logic, game 7 would have never happened if the officials disallowed the goal due to fake goalie interference.
Another thing the NHL will have to apologize for. And another ref that is not going to the finals. Good job.
Sebastien the refs in the vegas game got sent home because they made a call that they actually didn’t see. These refs did the exact opposite and rightfully didn’t make a call since they didn’t see it. You can’t be mad at the refs in both situations. is it unfortunate? Of course it is but that’s the game, calls get missed.
Plus the player who did the hand pass was tripped just before he did it... I think that was also a missed call....
@@user-ke3ed5pq6z and it went of Bouwmeesters shin negating any hand pass call.
Just when I thought the officiating in these playoffs couldn't get worse... 👏👏👏 well done you crooked zebras, way to blow yet another game
Only reason Perrron scored a goal was because he wasnt in the penalty box for throwing the puck out of play being behind his own net
A boston fan complaining about refs lol. Stfu hypocrite
Officiating does suck, haley got hacked on his hands nothing happend. Perron threw out the puck, refs missed it. Sharks had momentum 2-0. Perron scored after a missed call. Sit down
Agreed
Criss Sa why you reporting my comment 😂
God damn how much more are the sharks going to get in the playoffs? You can review a player offsides thats nowhere near the play, but you can't review a illegal pass that caused a goal. Well done nhl well done
Blues caught 2 breaks in the game also, I know not as big as that one, but still. Sharks were in control before #57 clearly dumped the puck into the netting (refs missed it). And Braun was elbowed by Blais.
My guess is The Cup, handed to Pavelski by the president of th ref's association....
Did you watch the game or did you watch this one clip on CZcams? Blues got away with delay of game and slashing that sent Haley to the locker room. Hand pass and delay of game should be reviewable.
@@ruban8135 well burns roughed petrangelo after a play and didnt get called, and sundquist, got tripped. And the refs missed A BLATANT HAND PASS THEY LED TO AN OT GOAL. but yeah. Justify it how ever you want. Just know your team doesn't deserve it.
luke lawless You’re really on defense mode tonight aren’t ya bud😂
I can see it now. Coaches holding the white board drawing up plays. Forget screening the goalie. The new strategy will be screening the refs and just pick up the puck and toss it in the net.
Why would you screen someone who is legally blind though?
Officiating is ruining this sport very quickly.
fire them all..not even a fan of either team i'm just embarassed at what they've been doing to hockey.
Get some refs who can actually read a play and get them to pass some eye exams...
And I'm curious if you've ever reffed a game? The refs, being human and all, will make mistakes ... just like the players on the ice. The problem is that the refs aren't allowed to go to video review at their own discretion. They want to ... but the league won't let them.
@@darranedmundson1505 yea actually i have. you could have a houseleague ref officiate with more consistency than the NHL
Darran Edmundson what kind of argument is that? These refs are paid to not make these major mistakes. All four had eyes on the puck and you’re telling me not ONE zebra saw the hand pass? Ok 👌
Hand pass was so damn obvious. Shouldnt need to review. The refs should have seen it live. Bullshit non call and i dont even like the Blues....Bad for hockey. Period.
@@bearfcker5 No, I doubt any of the 4 saw it ... or they would have conferred and disallowed the goal. You have to understand that what they see at ice level is very different from what you see with the overhead TV view. There are 10 skaters + the goalie in the defensive zone. The sightlines to the puck are chock full of bodies and the pace is probably 3x what you'd experience in beer league. (I just got home from reffing. I know I missed a couple of penalties tonight but I didn't see the infraction because someone skated through my view just at the wrong time.)

🤔
Real tea ☕️
Actually crazy stat tho
source?
That will be the last game he will be calling...
you know what that means. hand passes are allowed going forward in this series.
Actually, after all the publicity that this non-call received, I think the refs are now going the other way and being hyper vigilant about hand passed. There were a ton of them called in Game 4 of the Bruins-Hurricanes game last night.
Why are some things “not reviewable” it makes no sense
The goal is reviewable. Not everything leading up to the goal. The "hand pass" was before the assist and shot. Timo was on the ice due to a trip. So how far back should you go? Like when they review a TD in the NFL and a lineman held on the play. It will still be confirmed as a score because a missed penalty call isn't what is up for review.
@@MasterKeySolutions a lineman holding and someone deliberately throwing the puck in front of the goal are two opposite things. If you're gonna compare to football use this comparison. It's like a wide receiver tripping the damn corner right as the ball comes and he catches a non contested TD and the refs don't call a blatant pass interference.
@@MasterKeySolutions in that argument then offsides shouldn't be reviewable.
Literally all the refs had to do was look up at the giant screen replaying what just happened
Yes, but it isn't reviewable, and plus you can not make a call after the fact because you see the play again.
Referees aren't allowed to look up at the jumbotron
they can,t according to the rule book, I wonder how they missed it tho xD

Everyone cleary saw the delay of game by the blues earlier but didnt call it. It's called KARMA lol
BuLeT2dOmE really dude you’re comparing the two? Moron.
Aaron keep telling urself that buddy. Sharks will be dead very soon.
Goal shouldn’t have stood, but timo was tripped causing the hand pass. So sharks should have had a penalty shot.
I'm not even mad at our fans throwing stuff on the ice.
Didn't have to hit your goalie though
I feel bad for the people that have to clean it up. They probably won’t get off work in time to make it to the liquor store now.
Yeah, should have never happened. Sharks should have won in regulation, but all those missed calls let the Blues take the lead. The puck over the glass by Perron who scored just after, the nasty slash to Haley that was followed shortly by a goal, the non call on the high hit to Braun. the refs really tried to hand this on to the Blues.
@@tysonl79 If all of the calls were made correctly I wouldn't care if we lost in regulation (i would be mad at my team but not the league). Its the inconsistency of the calls and how they are all wrong and greatly affect the outcome of the game is what I'm mad at.
Did any of the fans hit the empty net?
Have we not learned anything form the PI during the rams/saints game

Tainopisno1 money doesn’t matter lmao. It’s just gonna be the Sharks winning. Call this a coincidence or not but the year Thornton was traded from
Bruins to Sharks he totaled 125 points and if Sharks win the cup the franchise will have 125 playoff wins
I do agree that refs suck, but that wasn't a game determining call against the Saints. It was an insanely bad call, but the call didn't end the game. The Saints had the chance to win in OT but they didn't. The Blues didn't get a chance.. There was missed call, then the game ended.

@@vids595 I understand that the officiating has been completed garbage through out all of their series. Landeskog with the awful offsides call when changing. And now this hand pass in a critical "away" game.
My advice to the Carolina/Boston nation is beat the sharks in the first period or the refs may look away when the game is on the line.
What about Perron in this game?
When sharks win the cup the refs better be in the handshake line and should be handed the cup to lift it. Edit: (keep think your team is amazing sharks fans because you don’t understand the actual game. It’s okay bruins are going to win)

Kaden P I don’t think it’s rigged. This one felt like it but the other two weren’t. Vegas could’ve won it in OT and didn’t have to allow 4 goals on a PP. That one was their fault too. The Avs one was in the 2nd period, there was enough time for a comeback, but they didn’t comeback. And here we are. I think the two other calls were BS btw but I don’t think the refs are ENTIRELY to blame
It's the sharks tradition THIS year... usually the boot is on the other foot tho. Refs have been horrible this year tho. No consistency at all
Bad call by my Zebras. Disgraced that they missed a blatant hit to the head and delay of game against st. louis. Eye for an eye is my new policy.
Gary Bettman < is a clown
A game winning goal in overtime and a delay of game call are not on the same level, both blown calls sure. But one literally won the game. The hit to the head if see the other angles he hits him with his back and back of the shoulder.
You justify a gift-wrapped illegal playoff goal in OT by pointing to a delay of game penalty in the 2nd period and a hit to the head minor? I can find plenty of cross checks, trips, and holds by the Sharks tonight that went uncalled. At what point do we stop trading?
One missed call doesn’t excuse another missed call, and certainly not when it directly leads to a goal.
@@AV57 well meir was tripped and cross checked afterwards so 5-3 power play should of occured
Alfredo Ortiz, again, if you want to get picky I can probably find 20 minor penalties on the Sharks here, too. It’s the playoffs, though and refs rarely call anything that isn’t black and white: high-stick penalty, trips from behind, over the head slashes, spears, delay of game, offsides, hand passes, high-stick infraction, puck out of play.... the Sharks got unlucky on one of those in the 2nd period (not overtime). You’re wanting a cross checking penalty when hundreds of cross checks are being ignored on a nightly basis in the playoffs. And you’re wanting some penalty on Blaise when he’s much shorter than Braun, Blaise doesn’t jump, he doesn’t throw his elbow up, and yet somehow he supposedly elbows Braun in the head. Could it be that Braun screwed up and put himself in a vulnerable spot and Blaise inadvertently hit Braun in the head because he was bent over? I totally get expecting these calls in the regular season, but to act like they’re obvious playoff penalties and that they negate one of the worst missed calls in NHL history is just laughable.
Looks like the sharks will be gifted the stanley cup

Play will not be stopped for any hand pass by players in their own defending zone.
@@alexandrelavergne7961 Not sure what point you're trying to make here. But if you're suggesting that the refs saw the player bat the puck with his hand, but judged that it wasn't intentionally to his teammate, I think you're wrong. And in practice, the way that rule has always been enforced is that the ONLY time a hand contact with the puck outside the defensive zone is called is when it's incidental contact. If the puck is intentionally played by the hand and then anyone on the same team touches the puck before the opposing team, it's blown dead. That's the precedent that's been in place for decades, and if you can find one counter example I'd like to see it. In this case, no unbiased party would argue that the puck was not batted with the intent to get it to a teammate to make a play on. That he batted it intentionally is indisputable, and what other motive would there be in that situation to batting the puck to the front of the net than the hope that a teammate will get it and have a scoring opportunity?

I want to apologize to the Blues and their fans. The Sharks did not deserve to win this game with how terrible they played in the latter 40 minutes of regulation and this call. I was actually shocked when I didn't hear the whistle right after Nyquist touched the puck and I wasn't even celebrating because I felt guilty. A player shall be permitted to catch the puck out of the air but must immediately place it or knock it down to the ice. If he catches it and skates with it, either to avoid a check or to gain a territorial advantage over his opponent, a minor penalty shall be assessed for "closing his hand on the puck" under Rule 67 - Handling Puck."

So three rounds in a row, sharks get blatant help from the officials. Don't get me wrong, they're a great team, but if they win their first cup this year it will be absolutely tainted by the officiating.

@@havu2236 yes but no matter what, SOMEONE has to have eyes on the pucks at all times, just my opinion
@@havu2236 This is just a stupid comment. The majority of the players in that sequence are within a short distance from the net, the puck is there, and you're suggesting the officials might rightly be looking where, the blue line, the neutral zone? I can imagine you as a ref, missing a trip on a breakaway because you were watching players behind the red line to see if someone was getting randomly cross checked.
@@trevorlambert4226 The point is all the refs don't look at or follow the puck. They have to pay attention to what the other players are doing. They don't just stare at the puck they scan the field and look around at other players not involve with the puck. There are only 2 refs the other 2 are linemen who generally don't call for penalties.
Ha Vu A little slow are we? The 2 refs watching the play watch the puck, the linesmen are witnesses if there are any major hits behind the play, hence the huddle everytime something happens when they're not focused on icings and offsides...
that hand pass was clearer than clean glass
A goalie goes down in obvious pain - No call, leads to a goal
A horrible Game misconduct call - Leads to 4 goals
A hand pass that well is common sense - No call, leads to OT Winner in the Western Conference Final
I hope the Bruins Sweep just to add to this madness.
This is the most insane weird playoffs ever.
Mike S $$$$$$.
Good damn refs get off your knees and stop blowin this game
Bend over and use their good eye!
We need referees for the referees now
There is. They are in Toronto.
I am a Sharks fan but I think this should be reviewed before calling the "goal". Personally I think this was wrong call.
Thank you,..now YOU are a classy sports fan,...!!!
Refs are bound and determined to get the Sharks the Cup
@Ricky ParmarTHATS WHY THEY MISSED THAT TRIP AND CROSS CHECK TOO RIGHT?
moron
Absolutely rotten officiating.
Dont agree with the call i have to admit...but watch carefully as Meier was clearly tripped nicely...the puck was not even close. TBH dont feel bad anymore after reviewing that one because they would have been on the PP
You are the only person (I think) pointing out the trip. I didn't even notice it. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
What’s ironic is the exact same play happened against the sharks this season against Boston. A hand pass resulting in a goal and while it was obvious on the replay the play was not reviewable.
Great game tho. 6-5 OT
Ref Jose
Smh this hurts my heart. Blues are so snake bit.
We really are, aren't we? I mean I'm used to heartbreak this time of year but...not like this.
shark bit
If the sharks lose this series the NHL will give a public apology and say “well we did our best to help you out”
The Sharks should be penalized for having too many men on the ice. 3- forwards, 2-defensemen, 1-goalie, 2 referees, and 2 linesmen.
I'm just starting to find it hilarious how bad the officiating is in the NHL lol. It pissed me off for a while but now you just have to laugh because it's getting ridiculous
even if i was a sharks fan i would hate to win like that
It is true. I am a Sharks fan and I did want to win fairly
It sucks because the Sharks looked good in the ot as well. I'm fairly confident they could have won fairly sooner or later, but now I have a feeling the Blues will be monsters and play amazing here on out.
Best part is how they got together to discuss it and then just ran off the ice
Is no one talking about how Timo was tripped right before the hand pass?
san jose is winning this year with the refs help hahahahaha
well... after this game STL was gifted with 14 PPs over the next 3 games.. look at the 2 baby soft calls on Thornton in GM4, STL gets a 5 on 3 PP on the same play that Sorenson is destroyed from behind on an open ice hit nowhere near the puck..
Aaron Aubrey i was just kidding, woulda liked to see joe thorton win
It's good the Sharks didn't go to the finals again should of won In 2016 you snooze you lose.
Terrible no call.
Love how everyone in the comment section ignores the missed call on Perron where he got a missed call and ended up scoring lmao gtfo
Why did the commentators ignore the trip of Timo that caused the puck to be flipped up in the air, thus the hand pass. If the goal was not scored, me being a Sharks fan, would have been yelling at the refs about the missed obvious trip of Timo
How could all 4 zebras miss that?
I don’t know what the refs were smoking before this game but that was a hand pass for sure......
After Timo hit it with his glove, he then hit it with his stick. Null and voided the hand pass anyway. Good Night!
Wait that changed direction of 19s shin didnt it, look at the initial trajectory of the puck.
Yeah it kinda looked like it hit his leg. You can't see it here but the puck does seem to slow down a bit after it passes his leg. who knows. maybe there's a better angle out there.
@@Mandalor10 start at 0:43, looks like a change in direction
@@chrisscalise4229 thank u finally someone knows the rule besides me
Not good....disappointed !
Steve Dang it to the.... Blues????!!!???? Nah. He's gonna give it to the referees. Can't wait 😉😂😂😏
Let's be honest here... they failed to call high sticking ,tripping and slashing all game. The Thornton clip with him talking to the referee sums it up quite nicely. Go Sharks Go...
Just yikes on the finish
regguy69 Remember round 1 and 2? Coincidence? I think not
@@kadenp4505 yes I remember but if I can simply be a smart ass here, round 1.... You can't give 4 goals inside a 5 minute power play. And it's not the only serie with questionable calls... but I say that yes, indeed, the officials have given the Sharks many "advantages" on their side.
I'm not denying it. I really don't like the way this game ended. And I think the league is going to make changes to ensure it doesn't happen in the future.... if they ever do change it.
regguy69 you also can’t give a 5 minute major for something that always occurs in face offs
@@kadenp4505 I never said I agreed with the call. There's been a lot of calls missed during the playoffs. Goal that counted after hitting the net.... against the Sharks. The officiating and the rules aren't perfect yet.... it never been. It's consistently evolving. We've come a long way from "shoe skates" to "protective gear" to "masks" and "sticks". That's just the equipment. The rules.... no double zone pass, couldn't be in the blue paint, to slashing, holding.... I might as well take the leaflet from 1930 and simply put it side by side with the 2018 edition.... the new "bible" of hockey 😂. Simply enjoy the game... hope the calls or non calls goes your way and favor your team. Let the league reflect and debate over this monstrosity of a non call and let's see if they vote to get these type of play review able , can be challenged or should player be allowed to knock the puck downward towards the ice even in the attacking zone and not only in the defending zone as it is allowed in the defensive zone... and yes, the player knocking it down needs to touch it with his stick or leg (can't kick in a goal but can pass it)....😥😥😥.... or the other player from a different team touches the puck than it's a good pass.... but all this happens in less than 3 seconds, took you longer to overlook my poor grammar and read all this. So give the officials a bit of respect as they are most likely doing their best to officiate at the high standard they are held to. Even if they are having a really hard time out there and making questionable calls.
I could be wrong but it looks like it hit Bouwmeester's leg. You can't really see it but the puck does seem to slow down when it passes his leg. If it did then it's a good goal. Does anyone know if there's an angle that shows the other side?
It didn't show it on this video but on the actual game one of the replay angles shows that it bounced cleanly over Bouwmeester's leg. It was a clear hand pass incidental or not doesn't matter, should've been whistled dead as soon as his team mate touched the puck.
@@snowfan0521 it does matter if it touched his leg. That would nullify the hand pass. You say it bounced clean over. You're probably right. I haven't seen a good angle for that yet. I'll keep looking. lol
@@snowfan0521 ok I found a better angle of the play. It's the NHL channel posted the goal. It's still not completely clear, but the rotation of the puck does not change at all. So yeah it did not touch his leg. It should not have counted. Too bad
@@Mandalor10 by rule in the offensive zone opposing team must get possesion to nulify hand pass ei swear im dealing with idiots
There's no benefit to having only certain plays reviewable these days. Specially for a GWG in overtime in the WCF.... Come on now NHL.
The sharks doesnt deserve to be there frr lucky as hell
Just hand the cup to the Sharks already, the refs obviously want them to win
and the refs are paid by the NHL
Why is everyone overlooking the fact the Blues couldn't seal the deal with a minute left in regulation! Sharks had an empty net. Finish them
Isn’t that beside the point? Ok fine whatever, there’s still the entire overtime to score again, but not if the refs have anything to say about it! Legal hand pass. Why not.
I love the horrible rules in the NHL which refuses to review plays that decide the outcome of a game.
No. They can’t review it. It was a missed call, but they cant review it and say it was a hand pass. It doesn’t work like that it’s just rules. They did miss the call I admit that, but since they missed the call initially, they aren’t allowed to make a call through the review.
@@Apple-it3bo Sharks number 1 and now the Sharks have more haters. Oh well, at the end of the day if they're holding up Lord Stanley's Cup all is well in the city of San Jose and old Joe Thornton finally gets that Championship that has evaded him for decades.
Seriously... Really I mean seriously... There is something wrong with the NHL.
Maybe but hit an empty net and dont let Couture score and you're up 2-1 and not crying!
Mike Hamilton ya man all you gotta do is play perfectly and you’ll win every game. Don’t know why teams haven’t thought of that
Horrible call from the blind guys in stripes
It seems like the war room or whatever it is in Toronto can easily pick up the phone and say "It's not a goal. Play on." They seem to fall asleep for these West Coast games.
I am impartial and not a fan of either team. I looked at the play very carefully about 10x each from *both* angles for a total of about 20x, then in slow-motion, and I also read the NHL rules on hand passes. It *was* a 100% illegal hand pass (the puck was coming straight down from above that was then intentionally directed by hand with a pushing motion) towards a team mate for an advantage who passed it to another team mate to score. It was 100% NOT A GOAL to be waved off as no good. (It was considered *not* video replay reviewable! But they can review an off-side but not a goal like this is totally absurd!) *If I was the majority "owner" of the St. Louis Blues, I WOULD "not" play any more games and pull my team completely out of the NHL playoffs for 2019 as a costly and very serious protest!!*
Get your eyes fixed lol Cleary your just a donkey Haha
