- Revelation 3:7-13 records the letter to the church at Philadelphia, a city about 35 miles southeast of Sardis. The church in that city was the youngest and smallest of the seven churches of Revelation 2 and 3. Though the faithful congregation was small in size, our Lord had opened a huge door for them. Here is a church of which Christ heartily approves. Notice the two wonderful things Jesus says about this church: “You have kept my word” and “You have not denied my name.” The first involves holding fast to the words of Jesus. The second means you aren’t embarrassed by the first.
